Sounds of the Satellites’ use of Dub and Krautrock influenced samples, with tight, minimalist Trip Hop/Electronic production, resulted in an amorphous and off-kilter sound seminal to Post-Rock, Neo-Psychedelia, and the creation of Ambient Pop.
Having laid down a blueprint of sample and loop based Post-Rock in their debut Silver Apples of the Moon, the band further eschewed rock elements in favor of Dub’s atmosphere, warm retro electronics, and psychedelic studio effects. Combined with songs relying on repetitive arrangements, gradual, often subtle change, a focus on texture and timbre, and a firm, syncopated groove, it created an immersive and mesmerizing listening experience.
Standout tracks are the analog textures of “Breather,” the frenetic flow of “Bedbugs,” and the lulling pulse of “Almost Sleeping.”
