Prompt Monday

Sorry for not posting a prompt last week -- I completely forgot. Blame it on Primary Election Week stress since I work at a newspaper in Illinois.

ANYWAY.

Prompt for this week:

Chronicle AU by Anonymous, featuring Finn, Puck, and Kurt:

An AU inspired by the movie Chronicle. Could be gen or any combo of the three main characters (as a pairing or an OT3). Graphic violence isn't *required* but I'm willing to read contextual superpower-involved violence. Same with sex, not necessary but not a deal-breaker.

Puck, Finn, and Kurt discover a mysterious substance. Contact with it leaves them with incredible new powers (telekinesis, flying, etc. - feel free to mix it up). As they learn to control their powers, they have to wrestle with themselves over the right way to use them. Will they all stay on the right path and use their powers for good, or will they be tempted into darkness and abuse of their abilities?

FINN DEATH NOT OKAY. Other character death is acceptable if called for, but please do NOT kill off Finn.

This is sort of an awkward question, but could you maybe remove the RPF prompts from the meme? I know the FAQ doesn't exactly specify whether or not they are allowed, but it just seems wrong to include them since they technically aren't Glee/Glee character prompts. Or maybe I'm just being too sensitive?

The short answer is no, we won’t be removing RPF prompts from the GPM.

The longer answer:

Our rules are primarily based off of AO3 rules, with GKM rules as a second source, and our own ideas thrown in for good measure. Both AO3 and the GKM allow RPF, and there is plenty of it in both places, so we have decided to allow RPF involving the Glee cast members. This is in part due to the popularity of fics/prompts that are crossovers of sorts, such as Chris/Blaine or Blarren fics.

While we understand that some people are sensitive about RPF, especially considering how intense some RPF shipping can get in the Glee fandom, we have decided not to ban it because RPF is a fairly universal constant in fandoms, and Glee’s fandom is no different.

That said, we hope it never comes to this and doubt it will, but we reserve the right to remove any prompts/fills that we consider to be threatening toward any of the cast members or their loved ones. When I am done making this post, I will go modify the GPM rules to make note of our RPF policy so that it is easily accessible for future reference.

As we do with anything else in the meme, we recommend that users ignore prompts/fills they do not like and focus on the ones they enjoy.

Prompt of the Week

This prompt made me laugh out loud. I mean, you just know Finn Hudson would be the most endearingly inept vampire in the history of vampires. And  you know Puck would find a way to work every advantageous angle. This could be a classic, hilarious story! It’s currently on page 9 of the (growing and growing) prompts list.

Is there any way you can put a word limit on prompts? There's a user whose prompts are so frequent and lengthy (hundreds of words, at times) that it's hard to find anything else. I really enjoyed the GPM at first but it's not fun when one person monopolizes the prompts to such an extent that sometimes that's the only thing on a page, despite other people trying to prompt. The shorter prompts are getting buried and hidden.

No, we cannot place a word limit on prompts. Each user can post a maximum of 50 prompts (combined anon and non-anon), but that is the only limitation we are able to set (and we have it set to the maximum AO3 allows so that people can feel free to prompt as they choose). The same number of prompts display on each page regardless of length. One suggestion for users who are posting very long prompts non-anon: it may be helpful/courteous for other users if you first post your prompt elsewhere (such as on your tumblr) and then post a shorter version of the prompt in the GPM with a link to the full prompt. However, this is not something we will require.

Prompt of the Week

It’s Lili’s turn to post a prompt this week and I have to confess I’ve looked at this one and bypassed it every time it’s been my turn. I bypassed it because it’s a thing I’d probably never read, it’s super angsty (and I don’t do angst!), and honestly I don’t even accept Finn’s canonical death. But I keep coming back to it because I can imagine someone turning it into a really beautiful story that a lot of people would enjoy. And it won’t let me go. So I’m just going with it. Here’s the prompt of the week. It’s currently on page 15 of the prompts.

Quick question while I'm thinking of it: I'm working on a new fic right now (no ETA as to when/if it will be complete), but is it possible to link a fic to the GPM *without* linking it to a prompt? I'm asking because I got the idea *because* of a prompt there, but since the original prompt was specifically asking for things I am unable/unwilling to write/read about, it's technically not a fill. But I do kinda want to give a shout-out to that anon for the idea, even though I majorly altered it. ?

Yes, that is possible. When posting the fic, in the “associations” section (right beneath the notes), you can choose to post it to a collection/challenge. Just type in “Glee Prompt Meme” and you should be good to go!

I really love the GPM, but I have some trouble sorting through the prompts. There are SO MANY, and the tagging system is a bit rudimentary. I don't know if AO3 has limitations on that or not. But with the GKM you have the Pinboard where you can search different pairings or characters or kinks. I know that AO3 allows that when searching for fics, but is there any way to get that when searching for Prompts, too? I don't want to have to wade through 300 prompts to find one I want to fill.

Prompt Monday

Today’s prompt choice was an easy one for me (Misty) -- it’s currently the fifth one down on the first page of prompts, and it’s all about the one and only Lauren Zizes as a pop star!

So I want a Klaine fanfic where Cooper, Blaine, and Kurt have the same kind of relationship as Hamilton, Eliza, and Angelica where Kurt is Hamilton, Cooper is Eliza, and Blaine is Angelica. Not same personalities (because those are all wrong) but same dynamic.

(I could see it switched too where Cooper is Angelica and Blaine Eliza but I prefer Klaine as the unattainable. Except maybe in the end they do attain it, somehow.)

Hi! I enjoy your "prompt of the week" feature, but I was wondering why there are no Finn/Puck prompts featured so far? They're pretty prevalent in the prompts list and it'd be nice to see one featured!

We will get to them eventually! But as you said yourself, they’re pretty prevalent in the prompts list. The Pinn shippers have really risen to the occasion and they’re enthusiastically using and publicizing the collection. Which means that people visiting the meme will see right off the bat that it’s got a lot of Pinn action. 

We conceived the prompt of the week idea as a way to try to highlight things that might not be easily found, especially given that the meme at the moment doesn’t allow you to search or filter prompts. We look for an interesting catch, something that maybe doesn’t get a lot of play in fandom. And hey, we’re Klainers, so we’re not going to ignore them, but we want to find those Sugar/Tina prompts, or Rynique, or Finn’s life as a Cheerio. Things you might not find on your own. We also try to feature different ratings - from gen to mature and from fluff to kinky.

We’ve only had five weekly prompts so far, and with 279 prompts as of this moment, there’s a lot to choose from! Pinn will turn up, never fear. And we do want to try to do a better job of following the tags and reblogging, so if you highlight a Pinn prompt yourself and tag the meme we might be on the ball enough to catch it and post it here, too.
