Even with high expectations, Logan blows fans away. Set in 2029 when mutants are a dwindling species, this movie features Hugh Jackman and his ninth portrayal of Wolverine, but there is something different about the character: Logan is old and drinks whiskey as if it were water just to get through the day. There is a plethora of blood, but the violence is tastefully done and masterfully executed by the veteran actor and first-time actress Dafne Keen. The state of Logan adds suspense to the realistic thrills, always leaving us wondering which punch would be the one to break him, and he does end up broken. As in dead. The heart of any movie is in the performance; a dry one would betray a well-written script, but the lead and Patrick Stewart are masters of their craft while Keen, too, surprises viewers, with her role being demanding, yet the kid delivers a stunning act. Logan proves that, with dedication, it is possible to create an unparalleled masterpiece; there is hope yet for R-rated comic films.
