My 5 week old son is currently fighting for his life at duke university children's hospital. At 3 weeks old I rushed him to the hospital because he was breathing hard and by the time we arrived he flatlined in my arms. We have since discovered he was born with several congenital defects. A coarctation of his aorta and 2 VSD holes in his heart as well as WPW (a condition causing irregular and faster heartbeats). He was also born with a smaller brain, a pocket of fluid at the base of his brain and a cerebellum that is about half the size it should be. Aside from the birth defects, because his condition wasn't caught prenatally and he went into a full congestive heart failure he has suffered a stroke and several brain hemorrhages. He is scheduled for heart surgery tomorrow so that we can begin to fix his problems but it is only the beginning of a very long road.
