Emerald was quiet a long moment while she pondered what her mother had told her. How could you not know? Well, she could technically work that answer out for herself, but it didn’t mean she wanted to think of it. Part of her had always hoped that her father was some important person or had a good reason for not being around other than he didn’t want to be. Fathers were supposed to be around and care for their kids.
“How complicated can it be? You either want to be around or you don’t.” And judging by the fact that she had never had a father, she was willing to bet the latter was true.
Glitter sighed and looked to her daughter. Emmy was right, but it wasn’t that simple. She didn’t want to have to tell her daughter the truth about her father and the ring, but she was scared it would turn out that way.
“You’d be surprised,” she replied softly. “I never told either of the men who could be your father that you were theirs. You were mine and at the time that was all that mattered. I wasn’t in a good place and didn’t want someone I didn’t know well or trust having influence over you or becoming a permanent fixture in my life.”
