hot take, JJs wish wasn’t kie, it was dying. he’s been hinting he doesn’t want to live since season 1. robbing a drug dealer?? he was basically asking to die, and when he said to pope “you should’ve let them kill me” (something like that) EVERYONES IGNORING IT?? yall are too focused on kiara and JJ not kissing enough to realise that JJ wanted to die
It's so true and I hate that no one gave a FUCk. It's also true that he was trying to comfort her by saying that, cause that's just how he is. "Not much of a hugger man" but will hug you like his life depends on it. Everything he did... It was for them. All their big talk about "He never really had a home" but when both his fathers tried to kill him over and over again, where was the support that he needed? Mind you, they have been watching JJ get beaten up by Luke for years & it wasn't Groff's first attempt either. When Groff tried to murder him the first time and he was the one who had to bandage up his wounds, he probably decided then & there, NO ONE. WILL. GIVE. A FUCK.
I never speak of the obx drama because as a fan, I know where I stand. It’s their personal business not mine plus I don’t like that energy as someone with mild anxiety. I prefer hearing the happy things lol.
No matter how much is speculated, etc, fans will never know 100% of the story.
So I’ll just say my opinion once. Again… opinion.
I do think that people wanna ruin Rudy’s career (we’ve seen this in Hollywood before) as he is at the height of his popularity rn and let’s face it, he was the obx character so many loved. You can fight me on that but people have gone crazy about him in positive & negative ways.
Rudy’s character ate up the show the most. Too many fans got attached & for good reason. Despite them trying to make the character spiral, it didn’t work- a lot just loved him more & came to his defense. You can’t knock down a character like that plus you gave us a character with MAJOR LOYALTY. The reason I instantly loved JJ! His heart. He WAS the heart of the friendship as they say.
Even with how S4 ends, he’s still heavily loved & the most memorable one. He was a character who deserved better as we all know & say, and also a highly RELATABLE character to some of us fans which makes him extra special. His story & struggles gut me, hit home too & I was rooting for my boy to get a happy ending. There is an emotional attachment here and Rudy did an amazing job with JJ Maybank. Probably also because Rudy himself seems to have some of JJ’s personality. Cast members have said it in interviews.
I see 50-50, Rudy being very loved & hated. Though some of his haters seem to be a fan of JJ which lol. You don’t gotta love the actor but like, chill out? Did he PERSONALLY hurt you? 🤡 No, he didn’t.
Hating on someone you will never PERSONALLY KNOW is just beyond fucked. That goes for hating on Elaine (& others) too. Though so far, I see most of the hate on Rudy & Elaine. Let people be happy. Idk what’s with society and shitting on people who wanna be happy & do their own thing. I see it fucking everywhere dude.
Any mistakes made btw (if so)… we won’t ever know fully unless we were there ourselves (or someone like Rudy/etc comes out with it) and the past is the past. Move tf on. People change & grow. You do know that, right? & don’t act like you never fucked up plus it has nothing to do with you, a “fan.” Stay in your lane. I hate how it all gets dragged on. I saw someone say he’s actively beefing with Madison and I’m like where?? All we’ve seen FROM HIM is being cordial to a costar yet SHE seems to have one sided beef with him and continues to egg it on. I’m so happy he’s gotten away from all that but really wish the obxtwt fans would chill a little. We genuinely have no idea what happened literally no ACTUAL PROOF besides shadiness from people and anonymous sources for all we know they just grew a part. Anyone that has ever talked about Rudy says he’s a gem! His costar on Romeo & Juliet, & any other movie he’s done, the guy who plays Luke, the guy who plays Groff like I just don’t believe the narrative these fans are trying to paint! Sorry not sorry he isn’t a bad guy for not hanging with the cast and he’s not a bad guy for allegedly cheating on his ex 6 years ago lol

"I can't find a pulse!"
It's a matter of course; Pope knows what to do.
JJ's been stabbed, left for dead in a back alley of Morocco. Kiara is crying, which isn't very useful. And John B takes his pulse, which Pope doesn't trust at all, considering the other boy barely knows how to keep himself alive, much less someone else.
He huffs, pulling JJ up and supporting his head and neck as he lays him down. "Put pressure on the wound," he orders, and he's pleased Cleo at least has the sense to listen.
With JJ situated on his back, he reaches up, pressing his fingers to the pulse point on his neck and waits.
You have to wait. Sometimes it's hard to tell. With the stress of the moment, your own adrenaline. Pope waits -- adjusts his fingers -- and checks again.
Before it crashes over him with horrible clarity. "I can't find a pulse!"
Kiara just cries some more, and Sarah holds her. John B looks at him, wide eyed and terrified. "What do we do?"
"I'll do chest compressions," he says, not waiting for confirmation as he lines himself over JJ's chest. "You breathe--"
John B looks like a deer in the headlights, but he seems ready to listen. Pope yells back to Rafe, "Get us an ambulance! Or some kind of medical help! Anything!"
He starts then, pounding with mechanical clarity he remembers from his textbooks. Two inches, compressing the breastbone. You have to get enough movement to manually pump the heart. This is the only way to keep the blood circulating. If you don't do it enough, it won't do any good at all.
It's hard, though. The force required is more than he imagines.
He looks at JJ's face, too still and growing pale.
It's harder when it's someone you know.
When it's someone you love.
When it's JJ.
He doesn't stop, though. He continues, a full round of compressions before he falls back and nods to John B. "Breathe -- pinch his nose--"
John B does, pushing JJ's head back and lifting his chin before he pinches his nose and covers his mouth. Pope watches as JJ's chest rises -- and falls. Rises -- and falls.
And then, just like that, he's at it again.
CPR, contrary to popular belief, doesn't restart someone's heart.
It's a stopgap. It keeps someone alive long enough for further medical intervention. The idea is to keep the blood moving, to keep the organs oxygenated. You're just buying time.
Except that's what they've been doing.
Ever since JJ's life fell apart.
They're all just buying time.
Helping him escape from the cops. Patching him up after a run-in with Groff. Following him all the way to Morocco to fix his mistakes. They tolerate his drinking. They roll their eyes are his fatalism. Because they're just buying time.
Like they're pounding on his chest.
Instead of giving his heart the spark it needs.
They need to ask him how he is. They. need to talk about his parentage. They need to force him to talk about what it means to be a Kook, and how he feels about the fact that all of his parents -- every last one of them -- failed him.
John B breathes for him.
Pope pumps his heart.
But this isn't what JJ needs.
JJ needed intervention long before it got to this point.
They let him slip away.
They let this happen.
His arms are aching, and John B's fingers are trembling as he struggles to get enough air to breathe for JJ. And just when he can't do it -- just when Pope thinks he's failed -- Rafe comes back.
He's got a woman with him. She looks past them and right at JJ. Pope protests as she pulls him out of the way, but then he sees what she's carrying.
It's a medical bag.
And -- more important -- and AED.
"How long has he been down?" she demands, ripping JJ's cloak open. The blood slicked shirt beneath is ruined and she rips it free.
"I don't know," Pope says. "A few minutes."
Her face is grim as she unpacks her gear. She places the electrodes on his chest. "It's worth a try," she mutters as the machine whirs to life. And flashes--
"Step back," she warns them, and Pope pulls Cleo free from the wound as the AED delivers a shock to JJ's chest. His body twitches, just a little, and they all wait, holding their breath--
"Okay," the woman says, visibly relaxing. "He's got a pulse."
He almost can't believe it. That JJ's alive.
That they have another chance.
They can still save JJ's life.
They can still save JJ.
"But come," the woman says, prodding him back to action. "Or he won't be alive for much longer."
Because no more stopgaps.
They're going stop the bleeding. They're going to stitch up the organs and tend the wound.
Then they're going to fix what's really wrong with JJ, what's been wrong with him all along.
For 19 years, it's been nothing but stopgaps.
But Pope thinks they're all ready to save a life this time.
