Things to listen for:
Polyrhythm: Cruz sings in 6/8 in the opening, while the band plays in 4/4
Antiphony: Cruz often "calls" while the backup singers "respond"
Instrumentation: Lots of percussion! Bongos, timbales, agogo have major solos while Cruz dances and bass supports. These are the only improvisatory solos in the piece.
Questions:
What genre is this piece? What part of the world is it associated with, and why?
How does this piece interact with musical hybridity?
How does this version compare to Angélique Kidjo's rendition?
