Huge thank you to the incredible firefighters at Fire Station 9 – Lake Pasadena (St. Petersburg, FL) for stepping up and helping a stranded visitor in our community yesterday, April 7, 2026.

A motorist who flew in from out of town to catch the Chicago Cubs vs. Tampa Bay Rays game at Tropicana Field found themselves stuck with a dead battery. After assisting by pushing the vehicle safely off the roadway toward the station, the on-duty crew didn’t hesitate to jump in. Aaron and another firefighter from Station 9 quickly provided support, including a jump pack and ensuring the vehicle was safely situated until the rental company could replace the battery.

This is what service is all about. After working a long 24-hour shift, these professionals still showed up with professionalism, urgency, and compassion. That kind of dedication does not go unnoticed.

For context, the Cubs took the win 9–2 over the Rays, with 16 hits and home runs from Pete Crow-Armstrong and Moisés Ballesteros.

The real win was seeing our local heroes in action right here in St. Pete.

Station 9 (475 66th Street North) has been serving the Jungle Prada and surrounding neighborhoods since 1974, and moments like this remind us just how valuable they are to our community.

Are we truly prepared, or are we just hoping nothing happens on our campus?

I ask this as a security professional and as a father.

When you look at your childs school, ask a few honest questions.

If something feels wrong, can the front office, security, and maintenance talk to each other instantly on radios, or are you relying on phones and messages that might not be seen in time?

If a custody dispute or domestic situation shows up at drop off or pick up, does your team have a clear, practiced plan, or are you hoping it stays calm?

If a stranger walks onto campus and refuses to leave, does everyone know exactly who locks what, who calls who, and where students and staff should go?
