Midsummer in Savannah silence under the great magnolia trees, blue bliss beneath the rustling leaves. It was July, after all, @glossfang.
Restless aphids surveyed the buttonbush with cursory displeasure, burdened by wings too fragile to carry them elsewhere but the plains and he, burdened likewise by unfortunate circumstance, sat listlessly among them. He watched with dull envy as they filled their throats with what vestiges of dew remained and shimmied their hirsute backs with silent contentment, bitterly lusting for the simplicity in which they so seamlessly existed. Jesse drove the toe of his boot further into the sodden earth; and beneath his arid breath, cursed the sun and sweltering summer heat — this damnable locale nestled within the devil’s bosom somewhere between fertile prairie and swampland.
As did the fauna, so did the women the humidity made them restless in their bustles and naturally, they sought relief by way of tormenting their thicker-brained counterparts. The men could do nothing but suffer the lashings of their impatient tongues, wordlessly hoping the satin shades of their parasols might alleviate some modicum of ire and spare them further torment.
[ ... ] The cicadas screamed. A rogue wind blew back his chestnut hair and the limbs of the magnolia shivered with delight.
"Ain't you got somethin' better t'do, girl..?" Tobacco tongue seeped in molasses clicked against the backs of his teeth; hands clad in cowhide leather tugged the brim of his hat over his eyes. His back rests against the peeling, portentous bark.
He could tell by both the taffeta of her skirts and the gentle curl of her hair that she was no barmaid. "Yer daddy's gonna come an' put a bullet in my head if he sees you talkin' to me and I ain't feel like gettin' shot today."
𝙰round them, magnolias exhale their incense into the humidity thick air & the very earth seems to exhale in slow, syrupy pulses beneath the weight of [ MIDSOMMAR'S DOMINION. ] Through it all, Regina stands faithfully untouched by any vulgarities, circumstances, this vision of aristocratic precision wrapped in taffeta, by all accounts, & venom, most especially. “ Oh, please, ” Regina claps the fan closed, her parasol tilted just so to cast her features into chiaroscuro while eyes remain whole of glittering amusement, utterly devoid of any mercy. “ If he knew, you'd already be shot. ” It can scarcely be considered a threat, merely a statement of cosmological fact, said as immutable & unremarkable as anything. “ Daddy's awfully efficient, you know. ” Her words drip with casual regard, nodding her head. And then, a slow, surgical look, traveling the length of him with cool detachment; The sweat darkened brim of his hat, the sunburnt column of his throat, the ever rough-hewn lines of a man who has spent life outrunning consequence.
“ Besides, ” She begins. Her cheek finds the palm of her hand, “ You're terribly thick-headed. That'll keep you safe. ” Impenetrable. The fan is conjured once more, a flutter deemed more deliberate.
𝕽egina regards him as, for lack of a better word, a phenomenon entirely. [ ANYTHING BETTER TO DO ? ] ... Sure, she does. Regina is forever summoned into the lacquered machinery of her own class existence, drawing rooms embalmed in floral perfume & old money, tea poured by hands that tremble with discretion, gentleman with genealogies longer than their personalities God, they drone on & on about acreage, tariffs, horses, whatever mundanity they wish to face. She knows how to perform in that world, in society, But all of it is so dreadfully, so murderously dull, a pageant of stuffed shirts and full skirts. And there is this dust-bitten & insolent being of another order entirely. WHAT MAKES A THING LIKE THIS? “ Well, you're the least predictable thing I've stumbled across all afternoon. ” She emits a laugh behind her face, as though the question amused her.

"I wished they'da let me have a cigarette." !!!
𝓣here are very few things more beloved by a small town than the opportunity to observe somebody else's drama from a safe & comfortable distance. the summer afternoon sprawls itself languidly across the township in a state of NEAR-BIBLICAL exhaustion, all sunstruck clapboard & heat mirages. IT'S JULY AFTER ALL. 𝕽egina hears cicadas performing their shrill liturgy from the trees. women in linen and lace congregate beneath parasols like pale flowers & men linger in loose assemblies nearby, exchanging half finished stories. ABOVE ALL ELSE, THERE EXISTS THE EVER-PRESENT HUM OF OBSERVATION. For what is a frontier settlement if not surveillance masked as community. & NATURALLY, 𝕽EGINA GEORGE HAS SPENT HER ENTIRE LIFE SEATED UPON ONE OF THE HIGHER BRANCHES. She understands instinctively the architecture of social consequence & understands the invisible latticework.
⠀⋆⠀⠀╵╵ ( In retrospect, she's watched women destroyed over considerably less than speaking to some old oaf like him. ) yet, here she is.
“ if only. ” she says, with some air of sweetness. “ i'd bet if you asked politely, they'd even let you rob the collection plate. ” There it is. The lace fan suspended within her grasp oscillates in slow and ornamental measure before her throat. MOTHER WOULD PROBABLY SNATCH HER BY THE EAR. collapse right here on the lawn. all because her daughter has elected to spend her afternoon entertaining conversation with the township's cautionary tale. lashes descend, rise again. over her shoulder, she'll regard him. “ although ˓ ... ˒ could your reputation stand another vice ? ” GOODNESS. 𝕽egina often makes fruitless attempts to render any cruelty beneath excessive charm. one might mistake such a thing for innocence if that one were ... extremely stupid. PERHAPS THAT MAKES THE PECULIAR MIRACLE OF REGINA GEORGE. that she's elevated bitchiness into lacquered fine art. “ people do talk. ” / [⸮] ⋆

ᝰ🚬 𝚉𝙰𝙲𝙷𝚁𝙿 .ᐟ THE OUTSIDERS (NOVEL) CHAPTER 10-12 PROMPTS. CHANGE ANY PRONOUNS IF NECESSARY. SOME MATURE THEMES MAY BE PRESENT.
i asked the nurse to give you this book so you could finish it.
that was the dumbest remark i ever heard anyone make.
he was pretty torn up that night.
you still have a lot o f time to make yourself be what you want.
i wish i could say that everything went back to normal, but it didn't.
my parents are dead.
i don't know, he just died.
i've had about all i can take from you guys.
you get back into your car or you'll get split.
how was work?
where have you been?
you don't quit!
that was really funny. i don't mean funny. you know what i mean.
i really did try in school, but you saw my grades.
don't you even remember being in the hospital?
i wished i could beat it out of there.
i guess this just about puts me out of every race.
i don't know what i expected the whole thing to be like.
you'd like that, wouldn't you?
the hearing wasn't anything like i thought it would be.
don't touch me.
what was he like?
if we don't have each other, we don't have anything.
i knew i was flunking out in that class, but golly, i couldn't help it.
he'll probably think you're crazy, but ask for me.
he was dead before he hit the ground, but i knew that was what he wanted.
you know a guy a long time, and i mean really know him, you don't get used to the idea that he's dead just overnight.
would he have listened? i doubted it.
some of their parents came by to thank me and i know it was worth it.
wanna smoke?
you're living in a vacuum, and you're going to have to cut it out.
there's still lots of good in the world.
sometimes i just have to get out
i told you you were in no condition for a rumble.
there's a guy here to see you. says he knows you.
a guy that'll really listen to you, listen and care about what you're saying, is something rare.
i thought he was going to go to sleep shaving this morning and cut his throat.
you're not going to drop out.
he isn't dead.
i don't know, baby. i just don't know.
you'd never be happy doing something like that.
dad's a good guy and everything, better than most, and i kind of let him down, being mixed up in all this.
i'm telling you the truth.
you wouldn't eat anything most of the time you were sick.
people i knew wouldn't talk to me, and people i didn't know would come right up and ask about the whole mess.
i'm not crying.
i dropped out because i'm dumb.
i'm okay. just a little hungry.
anytime you don't like the way i'm running things, you can get out.
it's like i'm the middleman in a tug o' war and i'm being split in half.
it was the oddest feeling in the world, i didn't feel anything.
did they hate us now?
where'd i get a concussion?
i guess we all just wanted to stay together.
you don't just stop living because you lose someone.
gosh, kid, you had us scared to death.
we're all we've got left. we ought to be able to stick together against everything.
i've never seen him so mad.
where did you think you were going?
i'm just going to miss you guys.
i had to push him to bed, but he was out like a light in a second.
it's not that easy, is it?
how'd you like some mushroom soup?
i guess your folks feel kind of awful about it, too.
what was the matter with me?
when you're a kid everything's new.
why didn't he tell you? i thought he told you everything.
i thought you knew that by now.
i wished they'd let me have a cigarette.
i'll have to get a job as soon as i get out of school anyway.
today's tuesday, and you've been asleep and delirious since saturday night. don't you remember?
i'd rather have anybody's hate than their pity.
what all did i say while i was delirious?
you really would have used that bottle, wouldn't you?
it's just.. i can't stand to hear y'all fight.
come on, let's go after him.
hey, i didn't know you didn't like baloney.
hate to tell you this, kiddo, but you're bleedin' all over my car seats.
gosh, mister, i'm sorry.
are you all right, kid? you look like you've been in a fight.
i'm not the kind that can lie around looking at the ceiling all the time.
put out that cigarette!
where's the party?
don't you start crying, too.
go back to sleep now.
what was he talking about?
you look beat.
easy, buddy, easy.
if you make me stay in bed there ain't anywhere else i can smoke.
will ya, honey? go back to sleep.
now please shut up,
he's gonna blow up, he couldn't take it.
i don't like it. i never liked it.
we don't like nobody killing our friends.
you'd have really cut them up, huh?
yesterday was years ago. a lifetime ago.
i don't remember.
have a seat if you can find one.
i ain't going to go to sleep smoking.
you're gold when you're a kid.
we're not going to fight anymore.
you couldn't make it to the door through that mess.
i don't want to sit down.
he was good-looking even then
his old man was rich, he could pay whatever fine there was for being drunk and picking a fight.
their lives are worth more than mine, they have more to live for.
if you got tough you didn't get hurt.
i can't take sides. it'd be a lot easier if i could, but i see both sides.
listen, with your brains and grades you could get a scholarship, and we could put you through college.
that's what i'm wishing was all that's bothering me.
please don't fight anymore.
listen, i don't mind dying now.
what's your address? i'm not about to dump a hurt kid out on the streets this time of night.
i'm cold. how about going home?
i want your own ideas and your own experiences.
he died violent and young and desperate, just like we all knew he'd die someday.
listen to me, you didn't do anything.
how long have i been asleep?
he's kind of upset about all this.
don't worry about it. this wreck's been through worse.
i think he could have whipped anyone, in the state he was in.
it's going to be a long time before i can even think about my parents.
hey, did the mail come in yet?
i bet you ain't had three hours sleep since saturday night.
i don't think he's ever really seen a sunset.
there's nothing we can do now.
i think you'd better go now.
he ran out like the devil was after him.
you can just lay off!
keep that way, it's a good way to be.
you're not going to die if you don't get a smoke, but if that bed catches on fire you will.
i had to stay in bed a whole week after that.
don't get tough. you're not like the rest of us and don't try to be.
what in the world are you doing?
t's the first time i've felt anything in a long time.
nobody ever looks a whole lot like his picture in a yearbook anyway.
he cried every night that week you were gone.
you got a concussion from getting kicked in the head.
two friends of mine had died that night
it's bad enough having to listen to it, but when you start trying to get me to take sides..
something wrong?
look, i'm happy working in a gas station with cars.
it's worth saving those kids.
i'm not ever going to be able to make up the school i've missed.
he feels things differently than you do.
you blasted fool. they don't know you're only bluffing.
i didn't know what he had to do with it then, but i do now.
Hey... U up? @glossfang @fezc0

"woah, wow, this is not what i expected the cat to drag in."
.. 𝙄𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩 , how the rain begins. it 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 until the world outside of the hideaway is rendered into streaks and distortions, with neon bleeding into puddles & headlights into trembling halos. it slicks the parking lot into something reflective and she studies herself in it momentarily, the wet smear of her night gone sour. the hideout [IN ALL ITS GLORY] receives her in dim, nicotine-stained light clinging onto surfaces, bass reverberating low and constant beneath the mumbling conversations. bodies clustering and leaning and sprawling. and the floor god, the floor ! it holds memories of a thousand nights in such adhesive resistance & each of her steps are met with the faintest, stickiest drag.
the men here, ( 𝙱𝙾𝚈𝚂, 𝚁𝙴𝙰𝙻𝙻𝚈 𝚃𝙷𝙾𝚄𝙶𝙷, 𝚃𝙷𝙴𝚈 𝙿𝙾𝚂𝚃𝚄𝚁𝙴 𝙾𝚃𝙷𝙴𝚁𝚆𝙸𝚂𝙴 ) exist in various stages of half-formed rebellion, loud in their defiance and very careless in their presentation. eddie notices her above them all, 'cause how could he not ? as she is DISONNANCE in this room.
“ funny. ” she says, light / dismissive. her head tilts, just so, a motion delicate enough to suggest a sort of curiosity. “ this is exactly what i expected the cat's .. nest .. to look like. smell like. ” her nose scrunches up. god, what the hell is that smell? cheap beer: sour and metallic, damp wood. the cat has dragged her in here, hasn't she ? dragged her across rain-slick pavement and poor decision-making and whatever thin thread of circumstance led her here instead of somewhere more appropriate. the cat has brought scraps and carcasses before, but nothing quite the likes of 𝓡𝓮𝓰𝓲𝓷𝓪 𝓖𝓮𝓸𝓻𝓰𝓮. “ dark, sticky, overwhelming.... ” each word is placed with a careful disdain as though she is selecting them from a shelf of options and discarding the ones that aren't quite sharp enough to suit her purpose. and then her attention returns to him fully, settles there.
she takes in the hair, the rings, the posture that leans so comfortably into a performance it borders on identity. “ you must feel right at home. ” an implication is there. she wipes manicured hands then a small motion, palms brushing against the hips of her skirt as though to rid herself of something unseen. and finally, her purpose. “ i need a phone. ” no apology, no softening, a redirection of the moment. regina george finds herself unable to relinquish control, but adjusts it instead: 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲. she needs to get out of here.
fortunately for jennifer, all eyes are on them. despite the incessant bickering, the rage-filtered hunger brewing within her ─ [AND THE DEFIANCE OF HER SISTERHOOD LOOMING OVER HER HEAD,] there's a craving for a certain blonde on her tongue for now. and it isn't roman, nor is it shane, though the latter was only to piss the real object of her desire off ... [IT SEEMS SOMETHING ELSE IS LURKING.] for the first time, her hunger is not some sentient being, begging for release with a mere chomp here & there, ─ this is something entirely different. nail-digging, lip-biting, thigh-clenching-ly different. she'd assumed regina would stay clear of her way, especially after what had happened right after cheer practice today.
REGINA HAD BUSTED JENNIFER OVER A SCHEDULE CHANGE. JENNIFER'S ONLY RESPONSE WAS TO BLOW A PUFF OF HER CIGARETTE SMOKE IN HER FACE ... THUS CAUSING A VERY HEATED, 2-MINUTE-LONG GLARE.
it was a stupid game of truth & dare, that had now become a riveting game of "fuck, marry, kill" which was, of course, the succubus' idea herself. imagine her satisfaction once the bottle landed on her, shown through her tactless attempt at butchering regina's self-esteem by agreeing to marry her only. ( " I'D FUCK REGINA, BUT I'D RATHER NOT GET THE CLAP, THANKYOU. " ) she had practically screamed it, so it's only natural her arch nemesis is now inches away from her face ─ a fight jennifer wouldn't mind losing. [if it meant she'd still be around for a kick or two.]
@glossfang: SO YOU WANT TO BE MARRIED TO ME? YOU WANT ME TO BE YOUR LITTLE WIFEY?
don't ask her how, but jennifer sees it as an invite to get physical. it's human nature: she wants a touch, she gets a shove. she wants a compliment, she gets ugly spat at ─ [IT'S A NATURAL COURSE&] jennifer doesn't seem to mind. unfortunately, she has had a few too many tequila shots, although her velvets are still pristine in their juicyness (cherryflavoured with a shimmer sheen) and her ebonies are wispy enough, every high-school boy & their plus-one wants a taste of jennifer's body, yet jennifer's busy hoping that underneath the insults & the exaggerated catfights ─── regina's wanting a taste too.
THE ZOMBITCH ISN'T QUICK WITH HER RESPONSE. SHE'S DISTRACTED BY THE FACT THAT REGINA'S SO CLOSE, SHE CAN SMELL HER INTOXICATINGLY SWEET PERFUME. AND THE FACT THAT HER BARE KNEE IS TOUCHING JENNIFER'S.
❝ god, YOU'RE TOO EASY! [she laughs it out, shoving regina back to create that dreaded distance again.] someone's gotta', right? 'cause let's be honest, high-school's kinda' like, your peak, soooo ... I'M THINKIN' LET'S DO YOU A FAVOUR. ❞
.. Hatred, when cultivated properly, GROWS ROOTS. & if that hatred lingers long enough, if it is watered down [ 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 ] with tequila and boredom and the low-pressure atmosphere of this living space, it becomes far less dignified. ( 𝚁𝙴𝙶𝙸𝙽𝙰 𝙶𝙴𝙾𝚁𝙶𝙴 𝙵𝙸𝚁𝚂𝚃 𝙼𝙴𝙴𝚃𝚂 𝙹𝙴𝙽𝙽𝙸𝙵𝙴𝚁 𝙲𝙷𝙴𝙲𝙺 𝚄𝙽𝙳𝙴𝚁 𝚂𝚃𝙰𝙳𝙸𝚄𝙼 𝙻𝙸𝙶𝙷𝚃𝙸𝙽𝙶. ) at this homecoming game, jennifer had caught regina staring. instead of looking away like any sensible rival, jennifer held the gaze. so, regina george immediately decided she HATED HER. that she would like to dangle that bitch by her thong like a .. little victory banner !! though, this very HATRED of theirs, has curdled into something less tidy, here. the party has metastasized across the house in sticky waves of bass and laughter. “ oh, blow me! ” the words leave her mouth sharp as broken glass. 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 , a subtle hitch in the rhythm of noise in the room as conversions falter around their increasing volume. this is better than fuck marry kill, this is better than spin the bottle, better than whatever garbage sings half-hearted on the speakers: this is regina george vs. jennifer check. & what a much rarer form of entertainment it is. “ 𝓖𝓞𝓓 !! you're obsessed. ”
she plops aside her on the couch, posture sturdied with one leg crossed over the other. their knees meet, a soft and careless collision and the couch dips. the cheap cushion gives way under the subtle shift in weight, a quiet and traitorous sinking that nudges them within proximities. regina tilts her head, a lock of burnt blonde curling around her finger while she studies jennifer's visage with such theatrical boredom. regina leans back slightly against the cushion and her eyes betray her quite immediately. what a hypocrite. flicking downward, cataloguing details with the obsessive precision of studying a caged animal. jennifer's mouth. [ GLOSSY. WET. ] clung like syrup and regina wonders briefly, catastrophically what it may taste of. 𝚆𝙷𝙰𝚃 𝙰 𝙿𝚁𝙾𝙵𝙾𝚄𝙽𝙳𝙻𝚈 𝚂𝚃𝚄𝙿𝙸𝙳 𝚃𝙷𝙾𝚄𝙶𝙷𝚃. as jennifer check has begun to feel like something otherworldly mythological in regina's peripheral. not literally, of course regina does not believe in monsters. however, there is something about her gaze that feels [ ... ] ancient. PREDATORY. like the stories whispered around campfires about those that lure people close enough to devour them. meanwhile, they're surrounded, some varsity idiot with a drink clutched too loosely in his hand and laughs a little too loud, the rest of the squad perched. though, the party has been metaphorically pushed several feet farther away by their gravitational pull.
aren't you one to talk, she considers. “ oh, i get it ! you must've finally ran through the entire boys' locker room. that is impressive, isn't it ? ”
jennifer had shoved her at safe distances moments ago but regina leans again anyway, reclaiming the space. cat and mouse, tit for tat. except, however, regina is beginning to suspect that the roles are far less clear than once initially presumed. a fingertip polished the color of a rose reaches backward and grazes against her own tucked ankle, “ now .. now, you want something soft. ” [ the word lingers between them: soft . ] where jennifer cuts with velvet darkness and sharpened edge, regina rounds it off. she bends the air around her, sweetens it with the alchemy of perfume and gloss and rouge. the clean line of her collarbone, the soft dip where the skin of her collarbone meets the pastel sweater. IT'S ALL ALMOST EDIBLE. “ do you think i'm sooo hot ? ” she's close enough that jennifer's perfume drifts into her lungs like that of smoke. the party blurs at the edges. the question is presented wrapped in sarcastic foils, But, somewhere beneath the lacquered cruelty of the delivery lives a small and very inconvenient truth. REGINA GEORGE WOULD ACTUALLY LIKE JENNIFER CHECK TO SAY YES. how humiliating and dangerous and intoxicating.

if you hurt her i’ll kill you!
what are you doing here?
you’re late. as usual.
you’re in this with me now, [ name ].
no one else is gonna save you.
why don’t you slip into something more comfy, huh? like a coma!
i’m gonna put you in the ground like it’s my job.
you’re following me?
i noticed you already ‘borrowed’ all of my whiskey.
you’re supposed to be normal - you’re supposed to be SAFE!
of all the things i’ve ever wanted to call you? you’re such a coward.
wanna know how batshit i am? nobody shoots my family but me.
you stupid, crazy bitch.
you’re really staying this time, aren’t you?
this is blackmail, you dick!
how DARE you!
you owe me dinner. i’ll settle for tacos!
it seems i have settled among a commune of artists.
how about smiling, huh? you ever do that?
well, i like attention. i always have.
you ain’t one of us.
i’ve been meaning to introduce myself, i’m [ name ].
when i see something i like, i don’t wanna wait.
good thing you’re not some guy, right, or this would be really, really awkward ...
you don’t have to be nice to everybody.
i would remember a face like yours.
i’m an excellent judge of character.
you’re so not my type.
darlin’, i’m everybody’s type.
the dead don’t get a vote.
pfft, rookie mistake.
god, that’s super weird — what’s going on?
you need to hide.
run ! i’ll hold them off.
i am sorry, [ name ], but it’s you or me.
you’re a good man! you’ve got a code!
you don’t wanna do this!
you have no idea what i want.
buy me a round, [ name ]? seems like you’re just my type.
we can’t all settle down with our high-school sweethearts.
welcome to team ‘shut up and do what he says’. sometimes, we get donuts.
you should be doing this. you were meant to.
deal with that ... or i will.
we didn’t trust each other ... and now look what i’ve done.
you do not know what i am.
you’re supposed to be a hero.
pull your head out of the past.
the hell took you so long?
this is what our victories might have to look like.
look, if you’re about to propose a threesome, i’m tired and i haven’t shaved my legs.
this just doesn’t make sense to me.
goddamn, it’s you.
the problem with this criminal thing, is it’s kinda fun.
i can’t live like this, not anymore
don’t get your hopes up, we don’t know what we’re gonna find.
it wasn’t my idea to do this.
this is the only way to sanctuary.
you just could never help yourself.
vengeance is hollow, [ name ]. it isn’t worth a thing.
you’re not a monster.
i need rules. a code. otherwise i’ll end up just like you.
stop kidding yourself, [ name ], you are exactly like me.
i sympathize with your predicament.
leave, if you want. go get ... dead.
only one death scares me, and it didn’t take.
ugh, ever heard of manscaping?
come on, he is just ... so beneath you.
what’s up, [ name ]? i never see you.
i’m the one with the vendetta, why are you gunning so hard?
we? there’s no ‘we’.
why should i help you?
you think an $8 bottle of pinot will make me listen?
i never liked you, you know.
am i in danger?
back then, you lived and died by what the seasons gave you.
shut up and help me.
can’t we just enjoy the moment for once?
[ name ], now is not a good time.
happiness is a myth.
would you like some company?
it’s gonna be a long night, might as well make it fun.
you’ve done your worst.
how many tiny pillows does one girl need?
hold on a second, i want to record this so i can replay it to you when you’re being a dick.
you being here is definitely not selling ‘normal’.
there’s been a change of plans, i need to go away for awhile.
this is supremely cryptic, even for you.
say ‘pomegranate’ if someone’s got a gun on you.
this doesn’t seem healthy, [ name ].
i don’t really care where we are, as long as we’re all together.
are you sure you’re okay?
don’t be cross, i’ve got wood.
your ass is like ... top shelf.
dude, you’re like a walking bumper sticker.
is this strip poker? i’m not shy...
this kind of wound won’t heal, i’m dead already.
you save your vendetta for another night.
you suck at your job.
don’t shoot me, [ name ].
honestly, [ name ], you’ve gotten so weird.
that is NOT sexy!
nobody keeps booze in here, [ name ].
i think somebody’s trying to scare you ... toy with you. why?!
you of all people should know better than to try and make me question my sanity.
what do you MEAN you killed a stripper?
in my experience, dynamite solves all manner of problems.
haven’t you read a romance novel lately? heroes always win.
oh, you want to be a hero?
wanna tell me what that was about?
that was really brave. stupid, but brave.
i have something i need to say.
i’m starting to think sanity’s overrated.
i understand if you hate me.
you’re always, ALWAYS lying.
we should get some breakfast, i could murder a stack of pancakes.
you should know by now, i’m not most people.
well, you learn something new every day.
hey, no, you’re okay. lay back.
[ name ], i need you to listen to me.
okay, [ name ], we’re in serious shit here.
park your daddy issues.
i’m not like you, [ name ]. i’m not brave.
what was the last thing you saw?
close your eyes, take a deep breath in.
look at who the cat dragged in.
cut the bullshit. i know who you are.
you use humor as a form of self - defense.
answer my questions without any more guff.
what is it with psycho’s and talking in the third person?
you’re not really in the position to do any bargaining, are you?
you do look like you can handle yourself.
you want my help? you need to earn it.
i guess [ name ] wants you alive for something.
we should make it look real.
you know how to make someone show you where something precious is hidden? set fire to their house. it’s the first thing they go for.
don’t be irrational, [ name ].
you served your purpose, and now you are released.
i’ve had a lot of names, but you can call me [ name ].
you weren’t leaving without me, were you?
never touch my stuff.
you’re the sickest puppy in the litter.
you were dead ... and now you are not.
oh, aren’t you the master of deception?
let’s not kid ourselves, you’re not going to survive this.
[ name ], i always hoped that i would have this pleasure.
if you stand for nothing, you are sure to fall.
you do what you do best, [ name ], you fight.
you’re just like me. you’re broken.
i’m not lonesome, i just prefer to hunt alone.
you have to let go sometime, [ name ].
you continue to disappoint me.
let me make it up to you.
i thought i’d feel different. i thought i’d look different.
you release the rage, you might find there’s nothing left.
woah, wow, this is not what i expected the cat to drag in.
for the first time in ages, i woke up and knew exactly what i needed to do.
you can try, but i dare you to cockblock the drive i woke up with this morning.
i’ll sleep when i’m dead.
you’re not alone, [ name ].
just once i want you to say it. that you care about me.
someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
why do i even get out of bed?
i lost you once, i won’t let that happen again.
[ name ], you are shakin’ like a leaf.
jesus, listen to me. maybe i am crazy.
i’m not sure this is the best idea.
you’re the one who told me i should blow off steam.
i’m not crazy, right? there’s something going on here.
you’re making fun of me ...
get in the car.
could everybody just stand still for one freakin’ minute?!
it’s gonna be okay.
i just screamed at you, you shouldn’t be nice to me.
we’re not dating.
i would never ask you to be someone you’re not.
yeah, sure, [ name ], whatever you want.
[ name ], what kind of a mess have you got yourself into now?
if you shoot, this all goes to shit.
your poker face is pitiful.
sorry, no speak evil.
who won’t you make a deal with, huh?
you can judge me all you want.
what do i care for some broken woman’s opinion of my character?
you can talk all you want. they’ll be your last words, anyways.
this whole time you’ve thought this was personal.
you shut your lying mouth.
what happened to being friends?
it’s not so easy to be brazen when the thing that you want, that scares you to death, is sitting right in front of you.
i scare you?
when i think about what i wanna do most in this world, it’s you.
jump in anytime, [ name ], because i really don’t know how to do this.
maybe you should make me.
i owe you a heap of thanks. and my life.
can i at least buy you a drink?
aw, [ name ], you really do care.
it’s worth dying to see the look on your face.
men are all the same. even the demonic ones.
[ name ], calm your tits. have a drink.
do me a goddamn favor and refrain from mentioning that name.
i think you would be very pretty in blue.
everybody knows... about us. the sex.
you tracked me?
what are you doing here, [ name ]?
if you’re keeping things from me, IMPORTANT things ...
don’t get all hard & forget that you’re human.
sun’s starting to go down, we should head back.
i feel a real connection with you, [ name ].
i do hate goodbyes.
look, we need you, okay?
can’t you at least try?
we can’t tell anyone. not until we know for sure.
i don’t want to be rude, but i don’t know any of you ... or what’s happening.
i don’t drink.
what kind of people give a kid a switchblade?
this is your home, [ name ].
how can you think this is funny?
i’ve been crazy, didn’t care for it.
i’ve been told i have character.
are you scared of me?
i need to start drinking less ... or much, much more.
how in the hell did you get this?
i lost control. i was angry at everything ... at everyone.
you promised to never tell anyone that.
it’s always been you and i.
it can be like it always was ... and different, too. in all the right ways.
you’re not alone anymore.
i think i got a little bit shot ...
i need you to tell me everything you know about [ name ].
i thought i was doing what you asked!
whatever you’ve got planned, i’m game.
now there’s a sight for sore eyes.
i don’t wanna hurt you.
why aren’t you more freaked out?
if there’s one thing i’ve learned this year, it’s that ‘good’ is a moving target.
what are you gonna do about it? tell on me?
who the hell are you?
you took it from me?
nobody’s getting hurt on my watch.
when are you gonna take responsibility for all that you’ve done?
i’m running out of goddamn time.
this isn’t over. i’m coming for you.
now you know how it feels when people take your things.
i know that you’re scared, so am i.
are you sure you’re up for this?
you might want to stand back.
you went wrong.
this one’s gonna hurt.
i’m ready for anything.
It was one of those nights Jade found therapeutic. Like nothing ─ no matter how big or small ─ had the ability to bring her completely down. It could very well be the sweet "Autumn" air that never falters in the presence of change, or the night itself where she finally understood the importance of tights under your skirt. Everyone knew how particular she could be about almost every single thing in her life, whether it was to do with her boyfriend of the month or her enemy for the semester – SHE WAS IN CONTROL OF ALL. . .
Imagine her shock once she realises a certain blonde has hijacked her night. Knuckles tight, alcohol seeping from her breath. She had drunk way more than she had anticipated, & although her vision was semi-clear, and it'd probably take only two more Tequila shots for her to really be what the kids call it these days ─ "SHIT-FACED!" ─ Jade was of sound mind to know this was unusual on any occasion.
@amalgi: (walk) from regina to jade.
THERE'S A CERTAIN TYPE OF UNCERTAINTY ON JADE'S FACE. A MINUTE PASSES. HER HAND ACCIDENTALLY BRUSHES AGAINST REGINA'S. IMMEDIATELY, SHE KNOWS SHE MUST CONFRONT THE SITUATION.
Swiftly, she turns. Scowl grows.
“ I'M SORRY ─ ” She lets it hang in the air before spitting the following. “ I must've blanked on the part where I invited you to walk back with me. ” Cut-throat. & if it were anyone else, she'd (probably) be the exact same.

regina is stopped in her tracks. naturally, she smiles. looks up into the taller of the pair, “ you didn't. ” the night has collapsed into that particular silence which follows a party too loud. somewhere behind them, the frat house thuds the DULL AFTERLIFE of bass through drywall. regina hadn't originally wanted to attend. but boredom is a rather persuasive being ( ... ) & BOYS while generally useless as a species occasionally serve a logistical purpose of cheap liquor and loud music. perhaps, she imagines she is saving jade's life, here. “ you're aggressively drunk. and like, kind of pretty: you're practically bait to them ! so, you're welcome. ” regina takes to studying her opposite rather openly, eyes flicking across her silhouette with casual 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: black, velvet, violet. “ hm. jade, jade .. ” reputation of the name is deliberate, almost musical. it's a soft mocking refrain wrapped in syrupy sweetness. gaze drifts downward and back up again, studying the architecture of her gloom. “ interesting garb. it's so.. very. ” compliments and insults share the same oxygen here. jade is intelligent enough to hear both simultaneously, she's sure.

“ y'know. i saw in the papers once that goth girls sacrifice goats for the grim reaper. ” ᴿᴱᴬᴰ ᴬᴸᴸ ᴬᴮᴼᵁᵀ ᴵᵀ !! delivers the rumor with the same tone one might use to cite weather statistics or stock market reports bright, conversational, faux-innocence.
.. ㅤ 𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐃, @amalgi (regina) ㅤ ㅤ✶ ᵎᵎ ㅤ ㅤturn up the music! i love this song.
the sweetness of sugar and bubblegum pop coat the inside of sera's mouth. the side of her face is puffed to the roundness of a sucker nestled in the pocket of her cheek, clicking against white teeth as she tugs it out to laugh at regina's stupid little dance. it's that certain kind of security between girls that get to hang out before the rest of the entourage arrive. before seniority is pushed to the sidelines and the climb for regina's perfect approval is a tough and grueling one. sera will have to compete for attention, and although sometimes it doesn't feel like much of a competition: sometimes it feels like regina is purposely playing chase for sera to say or do the right thing.. but no one else is invited for the pre-pre game, nor the sleepover after in which they'll sloppily stumble back into regina's bedroom and sleep off the cheap shitty beer from the night.
seraphina sits in a lazy recline, blonde curls tossed over her shoulder, side pressing into the deep satin pink sheets of regina's princess bed. she watches her with attentive eyes, catching every inch of peachy skin that pokes and stretches with the way regina sways about from closet to mirror. then, her request. it has sera torquing and rolling to the other expanse of the other blonde's bed to reach for the cd player decorating the nightstand. thick french tips pinch and twist the knob until it starts to fog the warmth in sera's mind about how good regina looks right now.
"so, i heard john might stop by.." courage is introduced by the flood of the pop song scratching the back of seraphina's ears. it's deflective in a way, bringing up regina's tiny but not-so-tiny secret about burnout john bender. something else sera knows to only bring it up while it's just the two of them. it means avoiding talking about the other thing. the sweetness of regina's scent and the softness of her skin and the fullness of her lips and the allure of her touch. seraphina knocks the sucker against her teeth. "tell me again what happened last time?"
this is adoration. or some counterfeit version of it that passes so easily for devotion and loyalty among girls: ... [ lacquered in lip gloss and gossip, & something bright and volatile and faintly POISINOUS beneath a sugary shell. ] ᴳᴵᴿᴸᴴᴼᴼᴰ !! and if it were examined too closely with that magnifying glass, reveals itself as a complicated liturgy a chapel, built here in this very room with perfume and pop music and regina presides over it all with the SERENE AUTHORITY of a self-appointed saint. soft pink carpeting absorbs the sound of pink manicured footfalls as she makes her way back to the mirror. the golden rim of the vanity mirror frames regina's reflection and she catches a glimpse of sera lying across the satin rippling sheets in LANGUID COMFORTS there is something about her softness that has managed to both irritate and fascinate regina ... ! [ too sincere and too earnest and too warm for this kingdom regina's built. ] put a hold on that thinking. because friendship, as she understands it, functions best when the HIERACHY REMAINS INTACT. girls that orbit, compete. ( sera, on the contrary... ) exists somewhere inconveniently adjacent to equality. that is a position that destabilizes the structure. ʙɪᴛᴄʜ. madonna pours through the room and she looks away again, the inevitable topic of discussion. groans with theatrical disgust, “ god, that was sooo 'effing stupid. he's such a skeeze. ” the dismissal is immediate, instinctive and slightly too emphatic which is unfortunate, as regina george prides herself on this illusion of effortless indifference. but dumb boys like john bender are annoyingly difficult to categorize.
“ he's like a stray cat. you know ? you feed them once & then suddenly they're, like, 𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 with you. ”
the metaphor lands with a flourish of dismissive elegance, though the truth beneath it is considerably more compilated. she studies herself while she speaks. tonight's outfit that has been curated with fine precision, then to her hair: [ a buoyant halo of newly permed blonde ! ] abandoning the ginger so long ago now had been nothing short of evolutionary advancement. ( if the aliens ever do show up, they're absolutely taking the redheads first. ) she fluffs it, “ should i get bangs ? ” question detonates mid thought. regina about-faces toward sera, gesturing lightly toward her forehead. “ like, no, right ? .. y'know, ᴛᴇᴇɴ ᴍᴀɢᴀᴢɪɴᴇ says girls only get bangs when they're ugly and single. ” a magazine is of course an unimpeachable authority. she turns away and mouths along to the lyrics TOUCHED FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME ! with absentminded devotion. when she notices sera again, she really notices her. attentive and reverent. she squints, “ you're uber nosy about it. ” accusation lands lightly, but her eyes narrow with mischievous curiosity. rumors have a peculiar habit of blooming into pink confessionals such as this room.
