∗* overdraft —
it would be safe to say that he’s checked out. beyond the boundaries of his consciousness is where his thoughts run wild, only half-aware of his state; sitting in a restaurant with no small amount of people wandering around his unconscious form. his neck hurts, he realizes belatedly. the too-bright glow of a light on the other side of his eyelids brings even more discomfort—
a groan, fatigued and pained, slips out without his permission and slowly, lee taeyong is dragged back to the world that most others dwell ( though he could swear he heard footsteps in the depths of his dreams; dark eyes watching his lonely walk through a maze of cracked glass ).
"ugh…" his lips part, tongue flicking over the skin in a vain search for moisture. a throbbing ache dwells at the back of his throat, while his awareness of his surrounds grows. gradually, the gentle slope of a shoulder tucked beneath his head draws his thoughts. of course, a steady undercurrent of calm but no less wry tolerance is the next thing he registers.

"doe?"
perhaps it’s wishful thinking, but the signature is unmistakable ( or so his weary mind declares ).
there was little reason to leave with the assemblage of gaudy mutants that inhabited a good two tables at the ever-busy restaurant—she had never been the time too into big gatherings composed mostly of absolute strangers, after all. so it is with a dismissive hand that she waves all invitations to shelve away the slumbering empathy beside her and join them for drinks off—leaving both her and the unconscious boy on their own.
and doe to busy herself with an engaging game of tetris on her phone to pass time.
though to taeyong’s own credit, despite being asleep throughout the entire dinner, the empathy awoke halfway through her second game.
“mm?”
doe offers only that in response between fiddling with her phone, tongue brushing over her lower lip absently as her gaze remain fixed on the screen. “how are you feeling now?” the question is laced with concern—however slim—though doe figures as a empath he’d likely already know such a thing. plus the fact that she was seldom the type to ask questions unless it’s actually an answer she wanted to hear.
“—i would like to say better than my numb shoulder, but you did get mauled by a yeti not a few days ago…”
the dry humor, however, is painstakingly obvious.
