Thought for the day – 28 April – Saturday of the Fourth Week of Eastertide and The Memorial of St Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort (1673-1716)
Louis’s life is inseparable from his efforts to promote genuine devotion to Mary and the Holy Rosary, the mother of Jesus and mother of the Church. Totus tuus (“completely yours”) was Louis’s prayer; Pope John Paul II chose it as his episcopal motto.
Like Mary, Louis experienced challenges in his efforts to follow Jesus. Opposed at times in his preaching and in his other ministries, Louis knew with Saint Paul, “Neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything but only God, who causes the growth” (1 Corinthians 3:7). Any attempt to succeed by worldly standards runs the risk of betraying the Good News of Jesus. Mary is “the first and most perfect disciple” and following her example is a foolproof way to holiness and to God.

I started going to counseling (it’s been so so good) and I’m recognizing the power i have over my thoughts !! the biggest lie i constantly tell myself is that I’m not good enough - it’s a pretty generic, straight-across-the-board lie. not a good mom, not a good wife, not a good friend or sister or daughter. not good enough to go to yoga or to make the next rank i’ve been hustling for or for that one person to care about me. life is happening around me and I’m always trying to make myself small, to get by unnoticed, sitting out of things I would probably love - not because of other people (most of the time), but because of my own thoughts about myself!!! do you realize how ridiculous that is!!?? so tonight, we were going to use the jacuzzi at our gym, me and my hubs - and I’m self-conscious about my mom bod and the extra baby weight I’ve got from housing two humans in my body - swimsuits are definitely not my favorite thing to wear right now. so i walked out of the locker room to go to the jacuzzi and noticed there were two people in it already, and i internally said “nope” and turned right around so quickly - it was almost involuntary, from yeeeears of thinking terrible about myself and acting accordingly. i stopped at the locker room door and gave myself a little pep talk about how i literally came to the gym to relax in the jacuzzi and look how nice that bubbly water looks! and also how i am NOT going to let my insecurities make me sit out of things i want to do anymore. so i walked over, set my towel down, made some awkward small talk with the older couple in the jacuzzi, and relaxed in the water (that kinda feels like it’s burning your skin off at first, know what i mean?) - and guess what? no one freaked out at how my post-partum body looks in my swimsuit and weird spanks shorts. no one even cared a bit. they were probably far more concerned about the giant bubbles that were happening (because giant bubbles kept slowly accumulating in my weird shorts and i had to release them!!!) than the fact that my stomach is super white and a lil bit squishy. anyways, I’m learning a lot and i am thankful. takeaways: you are in control of your thoughts, and, don’t let your insecurities make you miss out on your own life. (PS i shared this photo because look at what else my body can do, carry a giant man-child and a sweet bbgirl!! and look at how cute the babies are that caused this squishy tummy of mine!!!) (PS i was really meaning bubbles and not farts lololol)
