The slow pan over the bodies accompanied with the operatic music brings us to a focus on the small gestures in this exercise. The loud and booming voices in the non diegetic music suggests we are watching something much more grand than what we see. Is it that? Or it the scene trying to get us to accept the conditions of the mundane routine, to put us in the place of the characters even as we gaze down at them from a high angle. What pleasure does the viewer maintain in a shot like this? What are the messages we can see on the faces and the bodies in the frame?
