I just noticed this.

In ASM #39 (John Romita Senior’s debut Spider-Man issue) Peter and Harry begin to become friends when Peter comforts Harry over his poor relationship with his Dad. He does this by opening briefly about his own lack of parents and it is from there that the ball gets rolling towards them becoming roommates and close friends.

But in the 1990s when Harry became the Green Goblin again he deceived Peter into believing his parents were alive.

It’s a perversion of ASM #39 as Peter opening up to Harry over being an orphan began their friendship and much later in life Harry abused that knowledge as the basis for his final cruel revenge.

That’s gloriously twisted.

“He isn’t here” Was Harry’s reply as he lay on his bed, tired both mind and soul. “At least not right now.” He looks at the other with a cold expression. He knew who this was and what Goblin and this brat did made him dislike the other more. “He’d be happy to see you though”

“Then make him come out!” Levi demanded a bit harshly, staring Harry down with narrowed eyes. It wasn’t personal against Harry by any means, but Levi wanted to see the Goblin and he wanted to see him now. It had been far too long since their last outing, and Harry wasn’t nearly as much fun to be around. “Right now.”

He glared at the other, more impatient little thing that dared order him like he was nobody. “I won’t let him out willingly! He comes out on his own time and I prefer it not be now, so I say that you get lost before I kill you.” Harry was beyond irritated with Goblin already. “I don’t need more blood on my hands” He looks at his hands, still smelling the awful smell of blood and gore despite how clean he made them.

Levi is peaking in through the crack in the door, having come here to see one thing and one thing only - the Goblin. It’s been months, perhaps even years since he’s seen his old friend and Levi wants to once again kill by the monster’s side.
