[smiles at the compliment before sighing again] I don’t care, so long as you turn up okay? “Yes!" He’s growling, pacing the small room. "That’s what I am, Leonard and suddenly everyone’s ashamed that they’ve paid their captain for sex. So much so that they’re pretending I’m not!" He’d never felt ashamed about what he’d did for a living before, he enjoyed sex and it was legal to sell it now, he was good at it and so it was the most logical answer to paying back the money he owed people without touching the precious trust fund his father had left him. But now, when his closest friends aren’t even admitting that they’ve slipped Jim credits for sex, well he feels a little less okay with himself, less cock sure.

He stands, slowly moving over to the younger man. "Okay, Jim..." he soothes, hands tentatively reaching out to settle him. "Okay." He didn't know how to go about this. How do you tell someone that they aren't actually a prostitute when they are adamant they are? He has never encountered something like this, not some form of mental manipulation that goes this deep and triggered this fast. "I think something's wrong. Either with you or with all of us, because Jim I'm sorry, but I've never paid you for sex. I've never paid for sex, period." He nearly did, once. Then there was them strippers at college–– and at his bachelor party, but that wasn't exactly sex–– "How 'bout ..." Yeah, he's going to hell. "...How 'bout you remind me?"

"Drop what?" He’s frowning again, clearly Bones was in on the prank too and that made Jim sigh, inch himself back a little. Out of everyone who Jim thought would find upsetting him funny, Bones was the one who he hadn’t expected. Though his head whipped up when quarters were brought up. "Yeah, we can do it in my quarters later if you want. The usual price. Do you want anything special this time, Bonesy?" He’s leaning in, pressing kisses along the man’s throat purely because it’s there and he can. 

"We have?" They hadn’t spoken once about being boyfriends or whatever Bones implying they were. The mention of them being serious had Jim gaping, scrambling off of his lap and staring at him. This was getting old, tiring even. He’s pinching the bridge of his nose before sighing. "Whatever you want Bones. I’ll see you at my quarters after shift, when you’re ready?"

Something is not right. Sure, Jim plays a good act, but Leonard knows him well enough to see past most of the jokes. So as Jim frowns, actually looks dishearten– as he sighs in frustration too– Leonard gets a feeling right down to his bones that something is differently wrong. That feeling only worsens when Jim speaks and leans in to pleasure his throat. "Jim, please no more games––"

In seconds Jim had gone from the hunter to the fox, wide-eyed and skitish as he stands near the door. He looks tired too, and all Leonard wants is to understand why. Why was he pretending to be a prostitute? Why was he pretending that the last thing that he and Leonard were was a couple? It made zero sense, but then Leonard reminds himself that they are in the dark and dangerous depths of space, and nothing really is unexpected. Jim – the Jim he knows – would never put on an act and hurt his feelings. Jim's got too much heart to do that, so Leonard's only option is to go with the craziest idea.  "Jim, I need you to answer something truthfully, even if it's gonna ruin your little rouse if you have to break character. Darlin', ... do you honestly believe you are a prostitute right now?"

Jim sometimes struggled with acting enthusiastic, there was always those times when - surprisingly - he wasn’t feeling like having sex, he didn’t find the other person sexually attractive or he was just exhausted. It was curious as to how none of these instances had ever applied to one Dr. Leonard McCoy. There was no acting enthusiastic. There was no need, his enthusiasm was genuine. “Okay.” He chuckles, pressing another kiss against the man’s mouth. “I’m never sorry about interrupting your paperwork, you’re fun. We have fun and we always walk away happy - and more often than not, with a limp - after our transactions.”

Well clearly he didn’t get it if he thought this was the roleplay, the roleplay was— Jim blinked shaking his head. No one made sense today. “Wait, is this roleplay? You want us to pretend to be a couple? That you’re not gonna give me money in the end?” He’s smiling, it’s kind of cute, weird but cute. “I can do that for you, just for you.” He’s wriggling closer, capturing Bones’ mouth in a filthy kiss before pulling away the tiniest amount. “You know you’re my favourite client. I’ll do anything for you. You want me to be your boyfriend for a few hours, I can do that.”

Transactions? That was hardly how Leonard would describe what they had been doing for the last few months. Dancing around each other until–– well, they never agreed on a term for it. If Leonard had to choose a preference, he'd probably go with lover. And in his experience, lovers didn't have transactions. "Jim, you're right. We have fun. I have a lot of fun with you, but this? I'm not really sure I'm into it––– " Damn, the kid had a wicked mouth.

He pants, attempting to get his breath back whilst wrapping his head around what Jim was saying. Why would they pretend to be a couple? Jim had been just as pressing as he was into getting them to the stage where they were a couple. "Really, Jim. This ain't funny now. Drop it. If you want to do this in your quarters, fine, but not in the middle of the day. Not when you've got a ship to run and I've got a crew to patch up. Not saying you don't make a good ... prostitute?" He laughs at the idea of Jim actually being a prostitute. "It just ain't the time." He runs his thumb over Jim's bottom lip, a smile hinting at his mouth. "'Boyfriends' sounds stupid. We've discussed that. I'm too old, and this ... I thought we were serious about all this. This hooker act aside, us together ... that's what you want, right? Let me know that and you can start talking about me being your client again without me worrying myself into a heart attack. Preferably when we aren't on duty."
