Pretty in Black [Mikasa - Christa]
Christa gave a small laugh at Mikasa’s surprised reaction, her crystal blue eyes gleamed with amusement. It’s you! she chimed in happily, clapping her hands together. Mikasa was already amazed by how different she looked, but apparently Christa wasn’t quite finished with her. She gestured for Mikasa to turn around, then picked up another case from the pile. It was filled with peachy compact powder. Mikasa didn’t know what it was for - but the other girl surely did. She picked up a brush from the table and started dabbing it to the compact powder. Mikasa closed her eyes slightly as Christa began sweeping the powdered brush lightly on her left cheek.
Do you know if he feels the same way for you? Eren, I mean.
"Huh? I…" Christa’s question came so suddenly, that Mikasa wasn’t quite prepared for it. "I- I don’t know." She blushed and stared down at her lap intently, suddenly feeling it hard for her to look at Christa’s all-knowing smile. "I- I mean… he’s my family, and he always said I’m a family too… so… I… he… doesn’t that mean he feels the same way to me?" As she spoke, her face only grew redder at her words.
Christa bit her lip in confusion at Mikasa's response. Even with little romantic experience, she still knew that Mikasa's knowledge was lesser. Gently, she swept some of the blush onto the apple's of her cheeks, letting it fade off into her porcelain skin. Christa remained silent for a few moments, carefully thinking out her words before speaking.
"I... I'm almost certain that family members share a different sort of love..." She began, "I'm asking if, maybe he would think of you as more than family? Once he sees you at the ball, he surely will."
Christ knew little of love. As a child, love was a swift sharp strike across her face from her mother. Then, it was the quiet, warm brown eyes of the horses on the farm. As she grew older, it morphed into laughing with a friend, or whispering with her fellow trainees through the darkness in the early hours of night. But now... Love was much more. So much more complex and sickeningly confusing. Love was sweeping glances through the crowded mess hall, and love was that painful ache deep in her chest whenever she would watch him go about training. Love was far more daunting, love was much more unyielding. But above all, it was more blind than anything else she'd ever experienced.
"Maybe he'll ask you to dance," Christa giggled, speaking partially for herself and her own wishes.
