Sometimes crying is the holiest thing you can do. Sometimes it’s sleeping. Or cooking for a friend. Or sending a note in the mail. Or listening to someone share how bad their work day was or about how scary the future seems.

Sometimes sitting in silence - really sitting in that excruciating emotional pain and muttering the words “I don’t understand” and “God, please help me” over and over - sometimes that’s the most intimate and raw and spiritual thing.

Sometimes what we think is the least “holy” is actually so close to the very heart of God.

The goal is to talk about God to my non-religious friends the same way I do with my religious friends.

a list of simple yet beautiful things to live for:

the feeling of sunlight on your skin

the smell of pastries as you pass by a bakery

being wrapped up in a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate in your hands on a cold night

holding hands with the person you can’t imagine living without

discovering a new favorite song and listening to it on repeat

having a relaxing bath after a long exhausting day

secretly admiring a beautiful stranger you saw on the train

I am realizing that I am Peter

Doubting the Lord Peter; denying the Lord Peter, failing to trust in the power of God Peter.

But I desire to be Peter the rock. To be rooted so firmly in the Truths of God and have unwavering faith that He desires only good for my life and He is going to provide for me and take me where He wants me.

I just need to relinquish control and say “FIAT” to the Lord. Easier said than done.

An annotated book carries the presence of others. They bring your attention to specific things, to their views, to what they managed to feel from it. I can think of few intimacies like that, sharing what encountered others, what was felt.
