melinda had been here - wherever here was - for a couple of months at this point and she still had not managed to understand why she was here or how she even got here. everything was the same but also different and the only thing she knew for sure was that there had to be some sort of magic behind whatever was going on. magic. magic she knew. if only she could figure out where or who it was coming from then maybe she could get home and see her family once again. the girl had been so caught up in her thoughts that she hadn't realized she was approaching her destination -- the small coffee shop she had found that was willing to hire her. well, she hadn't realized until she had to swerve out of the way of almost walking into another person, forcing her to look up and take in her surroundings. "that was all on me. if i made you drop your coffee, i think i can buy you a replacement..." she began as she lifted up her bag to search for any loose coin.
Over the last few years Peyton had made it a habit to stop at the coffee shop every morning before class. Not an original idea, judging by how many university students were filtering in and out of the place, but a routine that made her feel comfortable nonetheless. She stood up to leave, idly swishing her coffee around her partially empty cup before nearly colliding with the girl in front of her. The drink hit the ground as Peyton jumped out of the way, though luckily it was the only casualty of the incident. "No, no, that was equally my fault." Peyton reassured. She seemed to hesitate for a moment, feeling almost as if she knew the girl before her, but as quickly as the feeling came it was gone. "Don't worry about it, it was almost gone anyway." She shrugged.
Dawn && Faith
Dawn had never been alone. For as long as she could remember her sister and the other Scoobies' had been there, shielding her from the chaos that had been Sunnydale - but this was no longer Sunnydale. Most of her friends were no where to be found, and according to Giles, her sister didn't remember anything.
Tears stung her eyes as she made her way home, or at least the home she had been residing in the past month, refusing to cry or throw a fit. She had to remind herself she was grown now. She had almost made it when she ran into someone... familiar. " - Faith?" She asked, mouth open in disbelief. This was the last person she expected to run into. "What are you doing here?"
@withinthem
thea looked up from their phone when the person approached them. it was fun getting used to the technology here. it existed back home of course but they weren't nearly old enough to really get a phone by then. "a phone book?" they asked with a raised eyebrow. something that had been long outdated by the time they were born. "i've got a phone if you want to use that?"
Dawn furrowed her brow, unsure how their phone would be any different to her phone. "No, thanks." She said, shoulders slumping in defeat. Her phone would be out of charge soon and then what was the point? Nobody had been answering her anyway. "Do you know, like, where we are?" She realized how silly that sounded, but she figured she'd try to get a bit of information if nothing else. Everything was strange, and confusing, but she could tell she definitely wasn't in Sunnydale anymore.
@godlxghts --- kikyo && dawn
"are you good with a bow?" kikyo mused as she sat on a nearby seat, tuning the string of her bow to make it so it was more accurate. it was really all she knew. "i figured you must be if you are here at the range."
"Who, me?" Dawn asked, looking around as if she must have been talking to someone else. "No." She answered, shaking her head as she remembered the first - and last time - she had used one, taking out a chunk of their living room wall in the process. "I'm just looking for someone." The truth was it seemed as good a place as any to find her sister.
@godlxghts --- rose && peyton
"i'm sorry, do you have clearance to be back here?" rose questioned the person walking up, holding her hand out for a moment to make sure they went no further. it had been a while she worked a party like this before and perhaps she was taking it a bit too seriously. "if so that's totally fine i just need to check."
She hesitated for a moment, shuffling around awkwardly. "Uh, clearance?" She didn't realize she was entering some restricted area, but now that she did her curiosity was peaked. "What's back there?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. "Bottle service?"
"The lack of tweed confused you?" He attempted to joke, unsure of how it landed. "It's rather outdated. The year is 2024. I know, I know, it shocked me at first as well. But technology has moved along leaps and bounds in the last twenty years, and I've been forced to move along with it." Chuckling, he removed his phone from his pocket. "They call them smartphones. Jenny insisted that I switched to one. Can't say I enjoy it all that much. People get entirely too reliant on them." Where was Buffy. The question he had been dreading. "I'm unsure why we are here, but I've been trying to research into it. I believe that there is a Hellmouth beneath the city somewhere. It would explain a good many things about this place. Buffy is here, but Dawn... she doesn't remember."
She gives a little half smile - not because she's genuinely amused, but because she finds solace in the fact that he's still able to crack a joke. Her smile immediately falters upon hearing the news that it's 2024, unsure how that could be when it was just 2003. "Jenny?" She asks, furrowing her eyebrows. The name is vaguely familiar, but Dawn never knew her too well, and aside from that she could've sworn she had died. "A... smartphone? Another hellmouth?" It was all a lot of information, and it was coming too fast for Dawn to keep up. "Wait - what do you mean Buffy doesn't remember? Doesn't remember what?"
Vax whistled at that. "I haven't seen a phone book in years. Most people just use their phones." The half elf admits. He happened to glance to her phone. Either she's from a different time or that phone is the only one she can afford.
"Then how do they get the numbers on the phone?" She asks, raising an eyebrow. She's genuinely curious, although she's not sure she'll believe whatever answer he comes up with. It's one thing to wake up in a whole new place with no recollection of how you got there, but it's another thing to be convinced that the world around you has completely changed.
Connor sighs heavily, fighting the urge to roll his eyes. He wants to help her - helping people was important to him - but she definitely wasn't making it easy for him to do so. "Look," He takes a step closer so that they're standing side by side. Though he does his best to not invade her personal space. He taps the screen a few times so that it lights up. "You don't need buttons, the screen recognizes what you're tapping."
Dawn isn't trying to be a pain - she never is, but it seems like it just comes naturally - not to mention she's lost and confused, which can only make matters worse. She sighs heavily, frustration rolling off of her in waves, but she listens for once, taking a closer look at the phone. To say it's impressive would be an understatement - to her, it's something straight out of the future. "And you can - you can look people up on this thing? Anybody?"
"I'm never careful and I've still managed to make it pretty far in life." He laughs as he says it, he packs up the few things that he was working on so that he can focus his attention on her. "I'm actually new in town but I've started coming in here every other day, seems like a lot new people end up here and the stories are really interesting."
"Well, that's just pure luck." She said, laughing in return. Her eyes brightened up at the mention of him being new in town, excited at the prospect of getting to show him around town. She tilted her head to the side, seemingly not having heard any of these interesting stories herself. "How did you end up here yourself?"
"Seat's empty, go ahead and sit." Monty's on his phone listening to music anyways, so he'll be distracted if the other doesn't talk for a while and then pipes up.
"Thanks." She said, taking the empty seat and placing he stuff down. She hadn't wanted to be a bother, but one thing about Peyton was she was friendly, and it was hard not to be sociable when given the opportunity. "I'm Peyton. It's nice to meet you, I'm sure."
"A mocktail" she said before letting out a sigh and closed the book with a loud slam, placing it on the table. "It seems like today is a busy day in here. And I really do want to be entertained so tell me what is your name and how long have you been in this town?" she asked, arching a brow. Small talk had never been her thing but it was clear riveting conversation wasn't on the agenda.
Startled at first by the slamming of the book, her mouth eventually twisted into a smile, relieved she would not having to spend the rest of this interaction in silence. "I'm Peyton." She said, seemingly taking a moment to think about her answer to the next question. "Er, about two years. What about you?"
"Ehm okay?" that was certainly one hell of a way to start a conversation. Just looking at her for a couple of seconds, Laura then sighed. " Okay I need to stop you right there as I am not the confused one and I really don't appreciate you insinuating that I am" Laura said and frowned. "It's very rude and if this is how the conversation is going to go then I would very much like to avoid it"
Dawn's jaw dropped in disbelief. She was being rude? She had done nothing aside from offer to help what was, in her opinion, a very confused woman. She recovered, snapping her mouth closed, although disbelief still gleamed in her eyes. "You're the one being rude, stopping here just to make fun of me." She crossed her arms defensively. "If you didn't want to help me you could've just said that."
kat's eyebrows furrowed in clear frustration. first tamora, now this? a groan escaped her. "come on, peyton. it's me, kat." there was a small sense of desperation to her voice as she looked over at her cousin. this didn't seem very fair at all. "you know... we're cousins?" she said it like it should have been common knowledge.
This girl was crazy, Peyton thought. There was simply no other explanation. She was immediately regretting her decision to sit here, but wasn't sure there was a polite way to back out now. "Maybe you have me confused with another Peyton." She said, trying to give the benefit of the doubt. "I only have one cousin, and I'd most definitely recognize her if I saw her."
at this point kat was just mentally ready to check out. everything had been so stressful it felt like---especially with tamora not remembering anything. there she sat at spot in the diner, slowly drinking the milkshake she ordered to clear her thoughts. when she heard a voice she looked up. in the end she wouldn't mind the company. but when she realized who it was? her eyes went wide. "---peyton?" she asked, making sure it really was her cousin.
"Uh - yep, that's me." Peyton said, offering a small smile, embarrassed to admit she didn't remember the girl sitting in front of her. Perhaps they were in a class together, or lived in the same building? Try as she might, Peyton just couldn't remember. "You're uh - you're in my public speaking class... right?" She asked, guessing. It was a shot in the dark, really, and she found herself silently hoping that it was at least somewhat accurate.
"What would I gain from making fun of you?" Connor sighs as he pulls his own phone out of his pocket and holds it out to her, tapping the screen a few times to show how it lights up. "We have the internet on them now and you're able to look up someone's phone number without a physical phone book."
"I don't know." Dawn shrugs, not really sure what he would get out of that, but staying on guard just in case. "The internet?" Dawn asked with surprise, scanning the phone curiously for a few moments before deciding she didn't approve, nor did she believe him. Not only was it embarrassing to be out of the loop with technology, but she couldn't even begin to understand how that thing would work. "No, I don't like it." She stated matter-of-factly, shaking her head. "It doesn't even have any buttons."
