It was hard not to be shy. The man was.. well admittedly still a virgin. So each time they passed.. anyone particularly revealing he was quick to avert his eyes. A warm blush spreading on his cheeks..
Seeing the pastor hadn't surprised him much. He always met people who always preached high morals have.. questionable choices. It's not the first priest he's seen somewhere.. well sinful
The fingers running across the back of his neck surprises him. A small surprised sound.. sounding similar to a squeak escaped his lips when he felt Hua Cheng's fingers.. they were.. alot softer then Xie Lian had expected. With that touch and the scene around him. Just made his blush even deeper
He was thankful to be in a booth. Away from some of the dancers and the gossip. The loud music wasnt.. great. But he could hear Hua Cheng and that's what mattered. He crossed one leg over the other and leaned back. Eyeing the drinks on the table. And the smell of smoke
..didn't that woman tell him to take better care of himself?
He looks up when Hua Cheng spoke to him. And he clears his throat. Trying to ignore the woman who seems to be eyeing him from the corner of his eye.
"...I do not care if my life is at risk. With all the jobs I've had this isn't the first time. I seeked you out because I have expirence In these kinds of jobs and I know I can aid you well" Word for word what Jun Wu had told him to say .. though.. he can be a little honest
"..Bai Wuxian has not done me or my family well as well."
He is coming across as sloppy and slacking; drinking is not helping his cause. Revealing cards right now was not the most prudent decision. But he knew. He knew that this was Xie Lian and that he had come here for some reason. If he still believes Jun Wu, he came to take him down. The only problem Jun Wu now has is HuaCheng. NSd if Xie Lian and Hua Cheng destroy each other, so be it.
If Xie Lain survives? Or remain crippeled even better, his obssession will be forced to live next to him forever. Yes, HuaCheng knew that Jun Wu, or Bai Wuxian, his criminal name, had destroyed Xie Lian's family. Jun Wu wanted to control the face of the law and also keep in his grasp the criminal underworld. And he would do so, but Hua Cheng was cutting off the ropes.
"I have proof that Jun Wu is Bai Wuxian. Cops and this government are just blind, or they just like the money flow. Probably the latter. I know his identity as well as I know everyone in this club. It is my job to know people who are near me. If I did not, I would be dead long ago." Drunk but still in control, he was flaunting, bragging, and flirting.
"You can aid me. Would you put a bullet into Bai Wuxian when he pulls off the mask and then you reveal his true identity as Jun Wu?'
".. Sir have you too much to drink? Maybe it's time you had some water.. did the doctor not say the same?" He tilts his head. Taking a sip from his own cup of juice. He never drank. And hadn't really intended to start today.
He didn't like how easy it was for Hua Cheng to read him. He knew Hua Cheng knew Xie Lian had some kind of history with Wuxian. And he knows Hua Cheng knows he's doubting this information. But he needed to keep Hua Cheng at arms length... He couldn't be so careless
"I am your employee.. I will shoot whoever you tell me too. Aim and I'll pull the trigger" He mutters. And leans back "Though sir.. you really shouldn't be talking business while having so much alcohol in your system.. it's no good"
Ling Wen was here. Theres even more crazy evidence.. if Bai Wuxian wasn't Jun Wu then why was Ling Wen here. Ling Wen Jun Wus most trusted secretary.
He avoided her like the plague. Though everyone at the station knew he was undercover. He would rather not see them out in the open still risked blowing his cover..
When Hua Cheng mentioned the chaos. And the explosions. His eyes widened abit. If that happened multiple people could get hurt. He just hoped they could avoid that for the night. Ling Wen hasnt tried to involve the police which is a good sign of that.
He followed Hua Cheng. Keeping close. His hands behind his back as he walked around.. he had been alittle relieved Bai Wuxian hadn't shown up. It meant he didnt have to face him. Though.. also meant he was still unsure whether or nor Jun Wu and Bai Wuxian were the same person..
Whenever Hua Cheng smiled at him. He felt a tad flustered. It was hard not to be. A man like him was.. undeniably attractive. Even a blind man could see that. But he still had to be guarded. He would offer a shy smile back. Ignoring how his face would warm at each glance.. he had to keep his head in the game
By a few hours in. Hua Cheng leaned over to whisper in his ear. He almost shivered with how his breath tickled his ear. He knew it was an order.. but with how inviting it sounded.. it didn't sound like a terrible idea. The people they had tried to see didnt show up. And its not like much bad could show up at a club.
"Alright.. wherever you wish, sir" since they were in public. He figured saying sir and acting professional would be best.. he didnt want to anger Hua Cheng
The club's name was "Red Lantern." This club had the most exotic dancers that Hua Cheng could find. Tirelessly, they would dance, take off their clothes, and pounce. An eye candy, you can look, but you can not touch. Nothing unusual. Hua Cheng brought Xie Lian to a strip club, the one that was his. Now one thing was to be a dancer here. And a completely other thing is coming here like this, in a normal, casual, I am the customer way. "Why are you so conflicted and shy about it. Look over there he points at the man in the corner"
A pastor from the local church was there. A God's man in the sinner's pit.
Slender, long fingers of Hua Cheng touched the back of Xie Lian's neck, teasing his hair there. Hands of an artist. Yes, that is what he wanted to be, for what he schooled himself. Yet his fingers never got a chance to paint and bring joy to people; his hands kill people. The only art they make is the sound of ringing and ricocheting bullets and screams of dying people, instead of clapping hands and praises for the artist.
This club is where Hua Cheng escapes reality, sitting in the far corner, leaning in a soft booth seat. And that is where he took Xie Lian to make him company. Soon their table was littered with drinks, blue lights dancing in empty glasses. Of course, the one who was drinking was Hua Cheng.
And as always, gossip would start whenever young Don entered his favorite nightclub. A nightclub full of smoke, drugs, and God knows what else. As he walked slowly, gracefully to his favorite spot, he walked as if he owned it all, and he does. He can still pull an innocent smile, a face of a thousand dreams and nightmares. Always looking serious or bored, that mask only cracks on the edges when he is about to hunt his next victim...
He heard them, yet he chose to ignore them, focusing on Xie Lian. "Ignore they always gossip. It is so trivial. Now tell me why you applied for this job, you know that your life is at risk near me? Do you wish to die, or is there something else that you are interested in?"
It's not the first priest he's seen somewhere.. well sinful

"..Bai Wuxian has not done me or my family well as well."
"Ruoye" He awnsers. Watching how gentle Hua Cheng was being with her.. even his loyal friends tend to be skittish and unsure around her. Which was ironic because it was Feng Xin that gave her to him. Yet both him and Mu Qing avoid touching herr like the plague.
"I got her.. a couple years ago. After an.. incident." When his parents decided it'd be easier to die then to deal with Wuxian. Leaving him alone. Feng Xin bought the snake so that Xie Lian would have.. something.
He took his pet. And she wrapped around his arm. Going up to his own shoulder. And laying under his collar. He smiled softly. Then glanced as he felt Hua Cheng move away.. how odd the warmth was gone
"hm? Oh- no. Ill be alright. And ready by the time you call on me" he just hopes he doesn't run into anyone at the event.. he and his mother attended alot of these kinds.. if there's anyone who knew his mother. His identity is blown
"Well, doll, you should decide which title you will give me: a devil or a bad guy?" Self-assured, powerful, and confident in everything he does, this man has an alpha personality. Hua Cheng was already in his element palying his part as the charity night started. He had already sent Xie Lian his arrival time, a driver, and a mask to conceal his identity, a common practice among the many visitors who came for various reasons.
As far as he could see, his target was no stranger to violence or to guns; he could see it in her eyes, no surprise as he reached over himself in search of his gun. His inner circle could use one more capable gun, but his current target already belonged to his enemy.
Giving her his most charming smile he asks. "Whats your name?"
But just like that, he leaves her. When he sees Xie Lian enter, he can tell it's Xie Lian even with the mask. He knew how he walked, how he held himself. "Welcome. Unfortunately, our target seems to be absent; only Ling Wen is here to represent him. If this all fails and the police show up, because they and our target are one and the same. fails and the He Xuan can always start a little mayhem, ex-terrorist who loves to experiment with bombs, and his dream comes true to set up as many explosions as he likes without any consequence." Hua Cheng whispered all that in Xie Lian's ear; in a way, this was also a test for him; he wanted to get some reaction.
His suit rustled as he turned fully to look at Xie Lian. His boyish face that smiled at Xie Lian hid the devil inside. Doesn't Xie Lian know that playing with fire will get him burned? Even thinking so and grinning, he knew in his heart that he could never put Xie Lian in harm's way.
He could not deny it; Xie Lian was beautiful. He saw intelligence in those eyes, and he decided here and now that Xie Lian would be a part of his clan.
But soon.....Music was pounding in his ears, and wine clouded his mind. A cloud of smoke was hiding him from looks and from gossip. No one knew who the man next to Hua Cheng none dared to ask. Death can take him tomorrow; he had no time to lose. So many long years of taking and giving…. these moments are what kept him alive. With a hushed whisper, HuaCheng spoke, hazed by all the drinks or by the man next to him. That no one will ever know...but Xie Lian.
"Someone tipped him, or he had bigger fish to catch. Let's go out of here to one of my clubs, hm?" It sounds like an invitation, but in reality it sounded more like an order.

I am re-reading TGCF and...
Hmmmmmmmm
Should I start counting how many times Xie Lian calls Hua Cheng "handsome" or some variation of it? 🤔
I mean it's... How the heck did I not notice it the first time?!
...I do not call him attractive that many times. It is simply me telling the truth. Have you seen that man.
A trope that gets to me: 'guard dog' character and their partner who are both fully aware of it and honestly don't care/kind of like it. Someone says "call your guard dog off" and their partner does call them off. That person, their 'guard dog', is someone who is unreservedly, irrefutably loyal to them. Someone undoubtedly dangerous who is willing to kill, to maim, to obey, simply because of their love for one another. There's no manipulation involved— it is loyalty, brutal, dogged loyalty. And it goes both ways.
He felt defeated when one hand was around his wrists and he watched as Ruoye wrapped up and shoulder his neck. Laying gently there. And she flicks her tongue out at Xie Lian before relaxing there.
He glances down at his restrained wrists. Now.. Xie Lian was a strong man. But the grip that Hua Cheng had.. he realized that if he ever needed to fight Hua Cheng.. he would have to rely on tricks and stunts. Hua Cheng definitely won in the strength department.. though the way he's holding his wrists. And has him so close.. there's definitely some tension
At the mention of the instructions he glances over. He was still.. unsure. Hua Cheng was telling the truth about Jun Wu . Theres no way he and Bai Wuxian are the same person. It can't be.. but. He would listen to his instructions..
So he nods"I- I can handle it. I don't have to stay in the car I'll be fine by your side" the way it was worded.. almost made it seem romantic. But the context of course made it seem the opposite.
There it was again—the way this man hugged himself or the way he would look away.... reminded him of when Alustriel saved him. He had been hurt and beaten, and she had patched him up. He was hugging himself, and she embraced him too; she was like a second mother to him. Hong Hong-er—that's what she called him, which meant "Little Red," because he was so small and covered in his own blood.
Times have certainly changed, and with them, the circumstances surrounding him. He is no longer vulnerable, nor does he find himself alone in the world. A significant source of companionship and a welcome diversion has arrived in the form of Xie Lian's small, intriguing pet. While the opportunity for Hua Cheng to pose more questions to Xie Lian that evening had regrettably slipped away, a gentle smile graced his lips. With a tender touch, he stroked the serpent coiled gracefully around his neck. "What is her name?" he murmured softly, his gaze directed at the creature. "Little one, don't you wish to return to your master now? Rest assured, I will refrain from questioning him any further tonight."
The moment was imbued with a quiet understanding, a subtle shift in the dynamics of their interaction, brought about by the presence of the small, scaly companion. It finally slithered over his arm and back to Xie Lian. Only then did Hua Cheng let go of his wrists and make a healthy distance between them.
"If you need more tips, I am more than happy to help. If not, I will send the suit to your doorstep a few days before the banquet and inform you about the exact time."
The hand wrapping around him caught him even more off guard. His eyes went from looking at Jun Wu's picture to the arm. And then his face is moved by Hua Cheng. Making him look at him while he asks those highly personal questions
He hesitates. And is about to open his mouth to respond.. there was nothing wrong with being alittle honest right? He could tell him about Bai Wuxian without revealing who he is.. it may even help the case right?
Those excuses sound out in his mind "Bai Wuxian he-" Then he feels Ruoye move. His eyes widen and he looks away from Hua Cheng. To see his snake wrapping up and around Hua Cheng's arms. Til she lands near his shoulder. She tried to slide past his chest but ends up in his lap
"Oh! I am so sorry- I didn't think she would" He scrambled over his words. Reaching over to grab her but she moved around His Cheng's lap. His face flushes red in embarrassment and being flustered due to how close they are and how he keeps accidentally touching his lap
Now he felt a sense of sympathy for the man next to him. The expression in those honey-colored eyes revealed fear and dread, reminiscent of a deer that has just encountered a wolf. It was the look of an animal that had seen the wolf bare its fangs, understanding that its end was near, and that life was about to be lost. He recognized that expression well, as he had experienced it himself when he ran through a dark, filthy street, chased by Jun Wu's men who laughed as they fired at him, trying to hit the moving target—a frightened boy who had just lost his family and was now on the brink of losing his own life. But all that was lost, and also his opportunity to get answers when that little snake decided to be mischievous.
Now, this whole situation turned out to be a comedy. HuaCheng could not say that he hated it; it was funny, and it made him feel alive and human again. It seemed that this little snake liked him the same as Eming liked Xie Lian instantly. He finally stopped Xie Lian, holding both his wrists in his hands. "Let it be around my neck; I don't mind.
"I got you a suit, and I can get you a mask if that will make you more comfortable. Besides, you will be next to me the entire time. Nathaniel will be our bodyguard for the night. If you can't handle it, you can sit in an SUV with He Xuan or stay with Alustriel on the rooftop. She will be our sniper for the night." He pinches the bridge of his nose. "The gun that I provided you will have to be carried hidden under your jacket. If any danger comes toward you, shoot and ask questions later. I will clean up the mess. I have my men everywhere"
So he nods"I- I can handle it. I don't have to stay in the car I'll be fine by your side" the way it was worded.. almost made it seem romantic. But the context of course made it seem the opposite.
Love how Hualian has always been the right person but the wrong time, but then, Hua Cheng turned around and was like, "Okay, so what if I make the time? What if I never die, so I never run out of time? Statistically speaking, at some point, there should be the right time with the right person, right?” Like he really just became immortal for the chance that there would eventually be a time he and Xie Lian could be happy together and I think that’s beautiful.
I can’t get it up!!
Xie Lian was thankfully used to the moving and bustling by now. That first meeting had so many locations that by the time they're at his home again he's already found a place to sit. His snake moving to wrap around his arm.. he pats her head then looks up when Hua Cheng walked over with the files
What he doesn't expect. Is him sitting so close. It catches him off guard enough to make him blink. Ruoye gets curious and moves her head to try and wrap around Hua Cheng but Xie Lian moves his arm so she doesn't. He can smell Hua Cheng he realizes too.. because of that he's half paying attention til Hua Cheng leans a little closer. His ears tint pink. But all that stops when he hears the name Bai Wuxian again. And he starts paying attention
Everything made sense til he saw the picture of Jun wu. And his eyes widened.
His first instinct is telling him this was a trap. That this was Hua Cheng's way of trying to get Xie Lian to confess who he was. He eyes the two photos. Not believing for a second that it could be true. Bai Wuxian was.. a monster!
And Jun Wu.. was his boss. A man who believed in him since he was in the academy. Who always pushed him to do his best.. there's no way..
"I- alright" He says to the rest of the plan. But then clears his throat "Isnt- are you sure that's Bai Wuxian? Isn't that.. the chief of the station near 3rd? He was the one who arrested Qi Rong was he not?"
He's asking innocent questions. Stuff that was public knowledge. Treading carefully but still unsure.
Hua Cheng had to be messing with him.
It would make sense. He's been alot kinder today. Driving him there personally getting him clothes. Making the tea himself. Sitting so close. This had to be a test... Right?
He could feel the tension building as he invaded Xie Lian's personal space, but as he continued, the man relaxed next to him. Hua Cheng would dare to say that he even enjoyed it. How far could he push him? Would the cop fall for his charms and go against his own nature? Or was he mistaken, and this man was truly his ally? Deep down, he desperately wished that this time, the man would be genuine with him. He wanted that so much—just one person who would side with him for his sake, not just because they shared the same goals.
But that hope is shattered the moment Xie Lian doubts and, desperately with innocent questions, tries to find an explanation for Jun Wu. The look on Xie Lian's face suggested he was on the verge of fainting or having a panic attack. This was bad; if he were like this in the heat of action, he would have to cancel half of his plans and seek another ally. In any case, Xie Lian's behavior raised red flags for Hua Cheng, shifting from odd to suspicious.
He wrapped his arm around Xie Lian's back, trying to support him while also unintentionally increasing the tension between them. He felt he had no choice; he needed to understand Xie Lian's feelings. "You know him, don’t you? At least his public persona? He ruined someone you love, didn’t he? Or maybe it was you whom he targeted?" He leaned in impossibly close to Xie Lian, holding him by the chin. "Your eyes tell me that you were afraid. Tell me what you know. Is that why you sided with me? You seek revenge, too?" When that lean white snake poked out again, HuaCheng let it wrap around his arm before Xie Lian could stop her.
Xie Lian was thankful that he didn't have to get rid of Ruoye. The snake was hiding under his collar. It's little tail just flicking. He had been looking around the hide room. Trying to spot his boss in the busy room. When he had been asked to meet up.. he didn't expect a charity night..
He jumps slightly as he glanced over. He relaxes when he sees the familiar tall figure and he clears his throat
"I've attended various events like these before" it's not a lie. Before the situation with Bai Wuxian his family was held in high regard. His mother would be invited as a guest to these kind of events..
"large crowds do not bother me. I tend to blend in easily enough to not cause any trouble" he awnsers the truth. Yet also what he assumed Hua Cheng needed to hear
He was in a light colored suit. Which did stand out a little. But not enough to call attention. His hair was braided this time. And thrown over his shoulder. And of course. The white snake was peeking out from under his collar.
This was no casual gathering. In the best scenario, this man was his employee; in the worst, an FBI agent scheming to bury him alive before Jun Wu had the chance to act. A smile blossoms on his handsome young face, mirroring the one Xie Lian gave him. At this moment, he misses the cop who genuinely wanted to help him. He can't help but wonder: Does he still remember?
As Hua Cheng stands before him, he looks at Xie Lian for the first time without considering their identities. Xie Lian is handsome—very handsome. There’s something about his presence that draws Hua Cheng in, even though he knows he might get burned. However, he realizes this could also be a chance to learn more about Xie Lian. With a smile, he places his hand on Xie Lian’s shoulder, deciding to take that risk.
"You will need to learn quickly, I'm afraid. I've already chosen your suit and the rest of your outfit, and everything is prepared and ready at my apartment. You'll need to come with me so I can debrief you on how this is going to go, including details about the guests. You are my right-hand person in this, and while Yin Yu is experienced in this game of pretense, you'll need to get ready as well. And since you say it is not your first time, you will be ready easily" He guides Xie Lian through the empty ballroom. "There will be plenty of drinking, gambling, drugs, women, dancing, laughing, and negotiating. Cops will likely infiltrate; they always do. Don't be alarmed by them—they can't do anything but watch. My men will have us covered."
Hua Cheng was driving this time, opening the door for Xie Li'an so she could sit in the passenger seat—no more backseat driving for him. By the time they arrived at Hua Cheng's apartment, it was dark. They were alone, moving from the hall to the elevator, in Hua Cheng's apartment, on his territory.
Hua Cheng once again invited him to sit wherever he liked while he went barefoot to the kitchen to prepare some tea. In his office, he would usually call his personal assistant to bring him tea or coffee, depending on what his visitors preferred. However, now he wanted to do everything himself in his private space, without any strangers disrupting the peace and order.
When he returned, he had a tray with two cups of tea and small pots of honey and sugar. "Sorry, I only have star anise tea this time; I don’t have mint tea," he apologized. Under his arm, he held a folder containing all the information he needed to debrief his companion.
The first thing he did was sit as close to Xie Lian as possible, using the false excuse of explaining something. He opened a folder, revealing documents that included a layout of the building and details on the location of each exit and camera. He was so close that Xie Lian could catch the scent of his perfume, a rich, deep cherry fragrance from his new Tom Ford cologne, mingled with the smoky aroma of his cigarettes.
"Shall we start from the beginning? This charity night serves as a scouting mission for my men and me. I participated in it because the next time we gather in this place, I will take down Bai Wuxiang. He will be part of this meeting and will serve as one of the investors. Additionally, he will probably wear one of his masks." He sifted through his papers and produced a picture of a man dressed in an elegant, expensive gray suit, with a white mask covering his face. "He hides his identity, but I know who he is." The next picture he placed before Xie Lian was that of Jun Wu. "This is who he truly is—known in public as Jun Wu." Hua Cheng applied pressure on Xie Lian both through his presence and by disclosing critical information that Xie Lian could not share without revealing his identity as a cop. "The other guests are insignificant; they’re just small-time issues and some petty politicians. After this gathering, we will need to meet up with Alustriel again. By now, she has likely tested the drug on those men."
Xie Lian was thankfully used to the moving and bustling by now. That first meeting had so many locations that by the time they're at his home again he's already found a place to sit. His snake moving to wrap around his arm.. he pats her head then looks up when Hua Cheng walked over with the files

Right?
As soon as he watched the car drive off he grabs his old phone. Throwing the new one under his pillow. He plops on the couch and groans. Dialing a number on the personal phone and putting it up to his ear
"Feng? Can you pick up Mu Qing and come meet me? Today"
He hangs up after that and tosses the phone aside. Laying back and taking off his hoodie. Running a hand through his hair. And taking it out of the half bun
Soon enough two people barge into his small apartment. Bickering and yelling at eachother over something trivial. Before pausing when they spot Xie Lian pretty much sleeping agaisnt his couch
Mu Qing sighs and puts down his back. Nudging Feng Xin one last time and going to Xie Lians kitchen to start some tea
Feng xin meanwhile walks over and gently tries to nudge Xie lian awake "Dianxia? Wake up" He pats his face slightly.
Once hes awake. He sits up blinks awake. "Oh- I did not think youd arrive that quickly.. where is Mu Qing?"
"Here. Making tea Xie Lian. Where is your snake? I do not want to step on it"
"Shes in her tank. Do not worry" Xie Lian calls back and moves over on the couch for Feng Xin to sit
"How did the meeting with the crimson lord go?"
"Well.. I have become his assistant. Though our plan has changed. We cannot do our weekly meetings"
"What-!" Feng Xin started but Mu Qings cold voice interrupts "Hes a leader of one of our biggest threats. I assumed he would have high security for his assistants. Does he have a tracker on your phone? Is it atleast the new one" he said as he brought two mugs of tea
"Wheres mine?" Feng Xin glared
"I left you tea in the kettle. Serve yourself" Mu Qing said as he handed one mug to Xie Lian
Xie Lian shook his head "its in my thigh. I wont be able to go near the station. Else itll raise suspicion"
Feng Xin huffs and walks over to the kitchen "I still think you shouldnt have accepted the job"
"I also found out- that he is aiming to get vengeance agaisnt Bai Wuxian" He said before taking a sip
Feng xin almost dropped the mug. He quickly serves himself and rushed back "What."
Mu qing stared at Xie Lian surprised. "Are you sure? Is this not another... situation. Like last time?"
Xie Lian shook his head "I heard it from one of his companions. He is also seeking revenge. Do not ask me why I do not know"
"So.. whats the new plan" Feng xin asked
"I will cut contact with anyone from my life who will be put at risk. And collect evidence and data. You two will handle anything as usual from the outside. Dig as much as you can into Hua Cheng. Any information on whats going on between him and Wuxian may allow us to catch two birds wirh one stone. But I will not be in contact unless it is an emergency"
"No contact? That is insane Dianxia you cannot go in there blind"
"I eisk losing the operation if I dont. I can handle myself. You two need to focus on your jobs and getting me out of there quicker. If I find ways to communicate I will but I will most likely have to cut complete contact. I will also be moving"
"What?"
"Hua cheng likes his employees to live wherever he chooses. Most likely to keep an eye on them. You two can use my apartment as a base of operation. Just do not let Hua Cheng know you are digging."
The silence is tense. Them now aware of how dire this situation is
And they discuss it alittle longer. Til they leave for the night
When Xie Lian receives the message 5 days later. He sighs. Putting on a suit he had. And taking Ruoye with him. Wrapped around his neck.. and went to the direction
(Ruoye)
Sometimes the lines of what he found acceptable were overstepped. And that was what had happened that day. Hua Cheng knew that this man could help him and could be useful if he could save him. The moment he stepped into the gambling den, one of those that belonged to his enemy. He Xuan's hands were tied, and a rope around his neck was used to pull him along, like a dog. He was severely beaten
He wore a filthy shirt that exposed his pale chest and bloody cuts. Hua Cheng had difficulties pinpointing He Xuan till now, even though this was risky -he did it anyway, he had no choice. He needed this man's talents and knowing how revenge can fuel one's desire he was the perfect addition to his weaponry. Hua Cheng stood up to approach the gambling table all eyes were on him, yet he only paid attention to the beaten man before him. A smirk tugged on his lips as he noticed the dark circle on the eye of one of He Xuan's captors…
“I want to bet on your pet, the one you drag along. Roll your dice. Too stunned or too confident, they accept their dice landing on a four and a five. Not bad, but Hua Cheng rolled his dice casually, and with a flick of his wrist, they easily landed on a six. Both of them.
"He is mine. Better luck next time,” after that hell broke free and that gambling pit was covered in the blood of Bai Wuxiang's men. And that is how HeXuan became part of HuaCheng's empire.
His favorite color is green, a calming and promising color. Color of new life, a new beginning which can be mean or cruel till it gets better. Once it was red, but now red reminds him of blood and all the lives that were lost, including his own. He had no hope or delusion that he would make it out of this alive. But he won't lose just yet, not without a fight. As he lined up his gun and pointed to the target, he spent the last hour practicing shooting at steady and moving targets.
But as soon as his driver texted him, Hua Cheng put his gun down and went to the meeting spot. When he stepped out onto the balcony felt like he could breathe again. The next charity gathering, the next false party will play out here. And he, Hua Cheng, has to dress up, smile, and charm his next investment. He also has to pretend that he does not know who Jun Wu is. Yes, he too shall be here. He wished to be away from the voices, the forced pleasantries, and the fake smiles. But tonight he won't be alone; this shall be a good test for his new right hand as well. His gaze wandered over the countless pillars that supported this fancy gala space. Till he noticed Xie Lian coming in downstairs with his driver. Everything about the gathering tonight was impressive until it was not. At some point, the eye just grew tired of the endless amounts of gold and silver, yearning for something to truly stand out, like a palace covered in flowers, ivy wrapping itself around marble pillars, or a manor hidden away at the bottom of a lake. His eye was tired of everything till it spotted Xie Lian, and he made his move downstairs. "Feng Xin, what do you think about this place? And how much do you like crowds and charity nights?"
It was hard to try and keep up while also getting a look at everything. Whoever said Hua Cheng was humble clearly hadn't been to his home. Or office. Whichever of the ton of hideouts this man had
His style of decoration really said alot about him. He lived a really lavish lifestyle outside of the murder and crimes he committed. As he sat down he was surprised to be offered tea. He nods to Hua Cheng and quietly thanks him
He took a moment to look around. Trying not to seem to suspicious infront of this guard. He did side eye him a few times trying to see if he recognized him from any of the files but no luck
When he overheard the conversation that Hua Cheng had with the man on the phone. He curiously glanced over
Who was caught- he hoped it wasn't someone from his team.. as much as he hated death around him.. it would be preferable if it was one of Wuxians men instead of a police
He quieted down and crossed his legs. Immediately regretting it once he felt the scar
He takes the mug and thanks him quietly before Hua Cheng speaks again. Right. He still had 5 days to rest and 2 to figure everything out til he was officially under Hua Chengs employment.
"Right. Thank you-" Well this feels odd "-Sir. I wont dissapoint you"
The tea was warm and calming after the acidic taste of the cig. They were out again, in the lift and down in the parking lot. Hua Cheng's phone flashed a few more times, and he clicked it off, tucking it into his pocket. "I will drive, sit in front." He stabbed the key in, and the engine growled to life.
"Tell me, where do you wish me to drop you. No need for that, sir, at least not while we are alone. I will, however, provide you with suits and prepare you when I need you to go out on meetings with me"
He pulls to the side of the spot where Xie Lian told him to stop. "Rest and be prepared. You have seen not even a half of it and of what I need from you" He closed the doors and went backward back on the main street disappearing into the darkness.
Hua Cheng was back at his headquarters. The first thing he did was go to the fifth floor to talk with He Xuan. Without a word, he was inside, fishing for the next cig, he asked. "Did you find out anything, or did you spend all day munching on your snacks?"
"Keep making fun of me, and I won't tell you what I know," He Xuan threatens, popping a piece of fruit into his mouth. "Anyhow, what I know is something pretty important…"
"Don't play smart ass with me, He Xuan, if it was not me, you would still be rotting in that room under the guard of Bai Wuxiang. You eat all the time, what is worse, every time I see you eat…I can eat too. You eat with such a passion that even stuffed full, I could take more." He took one fruit out of the bowl. He never smoked near this man, that was He Xuan's condition. "So what did you find out? Who is the traitor sent by my enemy?" Well, he did fish for a cig moment ago, forgetting their agreement, but he corrected himself pretty fast with again a very audible Tch!
"And you act like my eating is gross," he says as he watches Hua Cheng pull out a cigarette before putting it away. "Those things are disgusting."
"Anyways, the spy wasn't sent by Bai Wuxiang, they were sent by the FBI. I know whoever it was joined within the last year, but I just have no idea who it could be. That information is too difficult to get. What I can tell you is that they're probably already working for you and likely have been for a few months at least."
"He sighs, the itch to have a smoke was real, and the constant moaning of He Xuan about how cigs are gross is not helping. The idea of smoking is blown away as he bites into fruit and hears that the FBI is looking into him. "So, am I that interesting to them now? Fear not; they can send anyone they like. He will find nothing, and even if they do, they won't live long enough to carry it out. Last month, the men we took to bolster our ranks were all guards or drivers. And even if they breach in, we still have security protocols you came up with. I am confident in your capabilities." He rubs his chin, thinking. What he didn't tell He Xuan was that he knew who the cop was. He was just trying to see if his crime partner could dig up something more before he returns to play FBI agent again.
With his arms crossed in front of his chest, looking as sour as possible, his gaze would keep away and scare away anyone; his gaze rested on He Xuan, who looked unbothered. With a sigh, he turns away, only to lay eyes on the screen. "Very well, do your thing and inform me of the results. I will keep this man close; if he is clean, he could be a very trusted and capable ally. Not bothering to hide the indifference Hua Cheng felt towards almost everyone but the revenge that burned in his heart, he left He Xuan to his work. His calm gaze rested on the wooden doors, taking in her every carving upon it before he grabbed the doorknob, one twist, and the doors gave in; he left…
When five days were up, he called XieLian. "Meet me at the..." he wrote the address and time
As soon as he watched the car drive off he grabs his old phone. Throwing the new one under his pillow. He plops on the couch and groans. Dialing a number on the personal phone and putting it up to his ear
