“But Jax lost someone close to-” So, did Kinger (and the others implied as well)
“But Jax was suicida-” So, was Gangle
“But Jax was trans and suffers from body imag-“” So, did Zooble
“But Jax had an abusive mo-“ So, did Ragatha
Trauma can explain but does not justify being an abuser. All these characters dealt with similar shit and never made it anyone’s problem by hurting others. Stop defending Jax over the choices the character did not have to make.

so ive seen people talk about this scene, particularly about how jayce accepts viktors touch even when he knows its coming and could potentially dodge it/counter it with the hammer
from what ive read mostly people talk about how much affection (ha) and trust jayce puts in viktor, and personally i also think its because he saw the future and knows its the only way to reach him
if he wants to save him, save piltover he must strip away all the walls viktor has built around himself and his emotions, and thus jayce needs to be let into the hive mind where he can talk to actual viktor and not herald (also parallels to that scene when he shoots him, someone said he didnt let viktor utter a word because he knew he would convince him THEY ARE SO WEAK FOR EACH OTHER MY GOD)
but thats not what i wanted to talk about!! going back to the beginning of that scene on the rooftop
doesnt this seem awfully similar to the medieval coronation ceremony?
jayce is kneeling surrounded by followers/past inhabitants of zaun/piltover, during medieval coronation ceremonies it was a priest who would bestow the crown upon the future king. moreover, coronation was often considered a religious rite because of how rulers and deities were closely tied (different cultures would believe in different versions of this, that their ruler was chosen by gods or perhaps their descendant/vessel).
we already joke how viktor became god/jesus/deity/eldritch cosmic being etc, we also know despite everything he still holds strong feelings towards jayce (damn hypocrite) and views him differently than the others
so it would make sense he would wish to personally "introduce" jayce to his hive mind cult
notice how when jayce got to the roof NONE of the marionettes/machines tried to get to him asap unlike they do with others
no, this is a ceremony performed by their god who is choosing the one closest to him, demonstrating to the world how he wishes jayce to be the ruler of his glorious evolution
viktor places his fingers on him gently and carefully, while when they were fighting in the councils room he was ready to force his touch when jayce initially rejected his proposal (always trying to make jayce understand his perspective)
and jayce accepts it with so much serenity and solemnity that in that moment reminded me strongly of aragorn in lotr
a true king in the eyes of the one coronating them
also his unique fingerprints make me think of a crown/circlet every single time i see them and thats why i wrote all of this
i love all things related to medieval knighthood/royalty so this whole interaction has been boiling in my head until it spilled over, you are welcome
So I have a theory. In Bloodmoon Huntress we saw that the assassins were the only Moonshadow elves allowed outside of the Silvergrove on the night of the Bloodmoon as they have to patrol the forest in order to protect their community. However, there is an exception, Ethari, as he needs to outside of the Silvergrove in order to takevproper advantage of the Bloodmoon's magic in order to successfully enchant his creations, gems and weapons.
However, now all of the assassins are either dead, imprisoned or exiled which leaves Ethari as the only Moonshadow elf left who is permitted to leave the safety of the Silvergrove on this night. So what if Ethari took up this duty and responsibility and has been patrolling the Moonshadow forest during the last 2 Bloodmoons. He has the knowledge of the power of the illusions that he could encounter on this night, has the skills, both as an enchanter and as an archer to defend himself if need be and, perhaps most importantly, he knows about Kimdael, what she looks like and about her blood rituals. So maybe over the last years he's been patrolling the forest, looking for her in order to prevent her from killing anyone else.
I also remember that when Aaron Ehasz posted all those post it note hints for seasons 4 - 6 in I believe 2020 there was one that was about a creepy Moonshadow place/graveyard (or something similar).
So what if Ethari either tracks down Kimdael or what if Kimdael comes across Ethari in the forest and abducts him and takes him to her current hideout/place of ritual to use him as her next sacrifice. Fortunately Runaan and Rayla (and possibly some other characters) have made it back to the Silvergrove/Moonshadow forest on the same day and soon realise that Ethari is missing. They quickly track him down and find him at Kimdael's mercy, about to be used in her ritual and Runaan and Rayla jump in to fight and end Kimdael. The of them fight her and she's eventually taken down and then that just leaves the reunion. The big question remains: Does Ethari know that Runaan is alive i.e. has he been staying in the Silvergrove recently enough to have seen Runaan's flower float to the surface or has he been out hunting Kimdael for weeks or months? And if this episode takes place during the Bloodmoon then Ethari could easily believe that this is all an illusion, a trick of the heightened Moon magic that's showing him Kimdael's death and the return of his loved ones, including his dead husband. Then imagine Runaan and Rayla proving to him that they aren't illusions, they're real and they're here, right in front of him.
Ya know what, there's no way Ballister is about to watch Ambrosius sacrifice his mental and physical wellbeing to get the kingdom back on track - especially not after he just watched Nimona sacrifice herself for the same thing. Ballister already lost one of his best friends to a self sacrifice, there's no way in hell he's about to lose another.
Ambrosius feels it's his responsibility to fix things and it's so hard for him to make the choice to step away and let someone else carry the burden, but he has a responsibility towards Ballister too and this time he's going to choose Ballister. From now on he's going to choose his responsibility to Ballister over his responsibility to the kingdom
Tbh, this is probably the argument Ballister uses to make Ambrosius stop working himself into the ground.
Ambrosius has a terrible guilt complex, and he keeps trying to fix things, even though he hates what he’s doing more and more every day (and he hates himself for doing it, how dare he think that he’s important enough to lead the Kingdom and the former Knights; look how terribly he did last time, but how dare he not, his family he messed the Kingdom up so much, it’s his duty to fix it)
And then Ballister is like, “please don’t make me watch you sacrifice yourself the way Nimona did 🥺
And Ambrosius is like… “Sorry, can’t be a leader anymore.”
It actually guts me to think about how Ambrosius doesn't even know it, but he filled the role of Gloreth perfectly. Except he did what she never could and stood up for what's right. He broke the cycle after a millenia of Gloreth's descendants all following in her footsteps and never questioning things or standing up against the system.
Ambrosius stood up against Gloreth's real monster. The monster she could never tame or face - herself and the bigoted opinion of those around her
At the end, when presented with it, Ambrosius didn't put a sword through Ballister's heart. He instead put a kiss to the lips of the man he loves and chose to protect and care for the heart with tenderness and love
Summary: A peaceful night at home for Ambrosius gets plunged into chaos when people show up at his door intent on dealing with Gloreth's Descendant on their own. An Entry for Whumptober under the prompt "Outnumbered"
----
Tonight was a peaceful night. Ambrosius was starting to believe that perhaps Nimona was starting to warm up to him. This time she’d actually managed to fall asleep near him as the two of them and Ballister sat on the couch in the newly remodeled Hideaway and watched a movie.
Halfway through, Ballister had decided to call it a night. He went and tucked Nimona in and gave Ambrosius a kiss when he came back.
“I think I’m going to stay up, I don’t really feel tired yet, and I want to see how this movie ends.” Ambrosius reasoned.
“Alright then, Goodnight Ambrosius, I love you.”
“Night Ballister, I love you too.”
He watched Ballister walk to their shared room in one of the towers of the castle structure, closing the door behind him.
Ambrosius smiled, looking around at what the hideaway had become, dwelling on the fact that it had been turned from an old mechanics workshop to the place that Ballister and Nimona had used as a hideout during the time that he’d been on the run, to being fixed up and becoming an actual home.
There were several things that he appreciated about his new home, one of which was that there was plenty of space outside, through the big arches, to start a garden. It was something he’d always wanted to do.
He glanced at the curtains, drawn to give them all some privacy, that were now in front of the big arches. A frame with glass had been placed in each one, making them a window. Through a space in the curtains, he caught sight of one of the plants out in his garden, smiling fondly at it.
The thing that he appreciated the most though was that it was just so far away from the Kingdom. It sort of felt like he had left his cares behind by leaving the city. Of course he still had responsibilities, but they never weighed on him as heavily as the ones he had when he was known as Gloreth’s descendant.
The hideaway offered a kind of peace he had never experienced before. For once he didn’t feel that crushing weight that he had felt practically since he was born.
It was nice.
Ambrosius let out a content sigh before finally turning back to the television and starting the movie again.
That peace didn’t last.
Ambrosius could swear that he heard a noise a few minutes later, then several more noises.
He paused the movie and looked back at the door.
“What in-” He stopped himself.
Right, he wasn’t supposed to use Gloreth terms anymore.
Before he could say anything else, the door burst open and before he could blink, several people from the kingdom were on him. Someone grabbed his hair and pulled him over the couch.
“Ow! What is the meaning-”
He stopped talking, but still struggled against their grasp, noticing that each and every one of these people were dressed in muted colors. They were commoners. Ambrosius knew the nobility was mad, but commoners? With this new system they finally get to be on the same level as nobility, what did they have to be mad about?
He kicked and writhed in their grasp as they drug him through the archway into the tower that made up the front of the hideaway and out of the front door.
They only dragged him a little way before they dropped him on the ground.
Instantly a barrage of boots bore down on him, kicking him. He could hear the people speaking.
“Begone, descendant of Gloreth, we refuse to think like you any longer.”
“Down with Gloreth and down with the Institute!”
“Down with this representation of the old way of thinking!”
Oh right, he was still Gloreth’s descendant, he had been the Institute’s favorite poster boy, he supposed he should have seen this coming.
As he flinched from a boot directly to his stomach, letting out a cry, Ambrosius couldn’t help but think that their hearts were in the right place, but a bit misdirected.
“Please… Please just let me… let me explain!” He demanded, his voice weak.
“We don’t listen to her or anyone related to her anymore!” One of them spat back, “We want you out of here!”
“Yeah!” Several others shouted.
“Monster!” Another added.
“You’re not one of us!” Added a fourth.
Ambrosius felt like he could suddenly relate to Nimona.
Ambrosius tried to speak, but anything he might have said was interrupted by another kick, making him cry even louder.
“Hey!” A voice shouted from above, “You mess with him, you mess with me, and you don’t want to mess with me!”
A blur of pink sparkled dropped to the ground, and in seconds a pink Rhino took its place.
The mere presence of it was enough to scare off the people around Ambrosius.
Seconds later, Ballister appeared at the open door, eyes glued to Ambrosius from laying in the grass.
“Ambrosius!” He was by his lover’s side in an instant, kneeling beside him, “What did they do to you?”
“A lot of kicking is what it sounded like,” Nimona responded before Ambrosius could.
“Come on, let’s get you inside and get those bruises looked at.” Ballister said to Ambrosius.
Ambrosius didn’t say anything in response as Ballister picked him up off the grass, only focused on breathing. He watched as he was taken back into the house, noticing Nimona walking by Ballister’s side, a concerned expression on her face.
“I just don’t get it boss, they used to love him, why would they attack him?” She asked.
“They were people that would have been called commoners, back when we worshiped Gloreth.” Ambrosius replied, “I heard some of what they were saying about me. They hate me because they still see me as Gloreth’s descendant, they still want someone to hate… so they took their anger out on me.”
He saw frustration in Ballister’s expression, “I suppose I shouldn’t blame them, after all this kingdom was built off of…” Ballister glanced to the side at Nimona, “Well… you know. Somebody always has to fill that hated role.”
“That’s not fair.” Nimona replied as she held open the door to the room that the two of them shared. “Why can’t they just understand that there are no monsters, the only one there had ever been in their lifetime was the Director.”
“It’s… not that easy, Nimona.” Ballister didn’t make eye contact with her as he placed Ambrosius gently on his side of the bed, “The very foundation of our Kingdom was built on this ideology. Having it ripped away so quickly has probably left some people without a way to cope.”
Ballister helped Ambrosius get his shirt off so that he could assess the full extent of the damage.
He left for a moment, heading into the kitchen and returning with a cold pack.
Ambrosius winced and sucked in a breath when Ballister placed it over the biggest of his wounds, “I just wished they didn’t hurt me as a coping mechanism…”
“Me too.” The guilty look was clear on Ballister’s face as he looked away, Ambrosius knew just what he was thinking.
“Hey now…” Ambrosius reached up and placed a hand on Ballister’s cheek making eye contact with him, “This isn’t your fault, you hear me. You’ve told them about me, told them all you could have, It’s just a few of them decided not to listen.”
Ballister looked into Ambrosius’ eyes. He reached his human hand up to hold Ambrosius’ hand and pressed it closer to his face. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and then opened them again.
“I guess I’ll just have to say it louder. I’ll talk about it again tomorrow, specifically with the people that used to be commoners. I’m sure they’re just afraid of things going back to the way things were… I’ll also see about posting a couple of knights to patrol our place for a while, sound good?”
Ambrosius nodded.
A few moments of silence passed where Ballister concentrated on getting the swelling on Ambrosius’ bruises to go down.
Nimona got bored quickly, hopping up into the rafters, changing into cat form mid jump. She told the two that she’d keep watch for the night.
When she did, Ambrosius adressed her, "Thanks Nim, for coming to my rescue."
"Well, lets just say I know what it's like to be considered a monster..."
"Well now I do too.."
When Ballister moved to put the ice pack away, Ambrosius grabbed him by the arm.
“Stay… please…”
Ballister smiled and placed the ice pack to the side, as well as disconnecting his prosthetic and putting it aside, laying down on the bed with him. Immediately, Ambrosius wrapped his arms around Ballister and buried his head in his chest.
He responded by wrapping his arm around Ambrosius and making himself comfortable. Whatever they needed to do, they could worry about it tomorrow. He hated that Ambrosius got hurt, but the best thing he could do is be there for him.
They slept soundly like that all night long, wrapped in each other’s arms.
Okay okay so like yeah we obviously know that Ambrosius is jealous when it comes to Ballister, BUT Ballister is literally dating a guy who's definitely voted like "hottest knight of the year" and there's so many articles about "what would dating Ambrosius be like?" and there's definitely a huge group of people just waiting for a shot with him and it's not uncommon for people to approach him and flirt
Obviously Ambrosius never gives Ballister reason to doubt or to feel insecure, but knowing that the whole world is thirsting for his bf and wanting to steal him away definitely gets Ballister into jealousy territory sometimes
Ok ok so I wanted to talk about this specific thing and @kestrel-wylde’s amazing art piece reminded me to do so
Also I just got done my coffee so I’m feeling a little crazy rn
Right, so, for all the people who are cranky with Ambrosius for “betraying” Ballister (I’ve seen more than one person say this kinda shit, which is too many, don’t y’all dare turn GoldenHeart into another Catradora just because it’s not a “UwU pure perfect ship” or I’m gonna riot), I want y’all to look at this
This is the moment where Ambrosius points his sword right at Ballister as he’s trying to reason with him. Terrible, I know, but look at his eyes y’all
He’s clearly tearing up. And if you look really closely at his expression, you can see that there’s absolutely no malice there, just hurt. It’s hurting him to do this to Ballister but he has no choice, because if he turned his back on the Institute everything would become so much worse for Ballister. Even if all Ambrosius wants is to forgive Bal, to trust him and believe him, he can’t, because he’s the last line of defence between Ballister and the wrath of the Institute, and if he’s not there he knows people like the Director and Todd will be the ones persecuting Bal, and they will hurt him much worse than Ambrosius ever could.
Am is literally caught between a rock and a hard place here, he’s being forced to arrest the man he loves for a crime he didn’t commit who now believes that he’s betrayed him and thrown away everything they had.
Now I think Bal is definitely smart enough to figure out eventually that the reason Ambrosius took the lead in searching for him was so Todd wouldn’t, especially after the moment Todd does come after him. I’ve heard some people say that Ambrosius would have to explain himself and why he was so determined to capture Ballister after the movie but honestly I feel like Ballister already put that together the moment Todd showed up at his hideout and started beating the shit out of him - Ambrosius would never ever let that happen, even with he and Ballister being on opposite sides here, and the only thing that prevented that from happening was Ambrosius being on top of everything. The moment he wasn’t, Ballister was in so much more danger than he had been before.
I could go into the whole metaphor of how it represents the corruption of real-life institutions (*cough* police) and how one good person in said system can usually do very little to make positive changes, but my brain is very scattered rn from the caffeine so I’m gonna leave it here. Pls check out that art piece I mentioned and again, stop turning GoldenHeart into Catradora, I can’t bear to see another beautiful ship go down (pun fully intended) like that just because some of y’all can’t understand that a relationship with a few bumps in the road isn’t automatically “toxic” and “abusive”.
Headcanon: Ballister sleeps with a weighted blanket to help Ambrosius.
Why not Ambrosius himself? He keeps denying one would help with his anxiety. The poor boy has grown up his whole life expecting to be able to cope with the stress and pressure of being a direct descendant of Gloreth. He's not used to taking care of himself, and is being stubborn and adamant that he is very much okay, thank you very much, Ballister.
So, Ballister gets a weighted blanket for himself and sleeps with it. Ambrosius cuddles up to him while sleeping, so Ambrosius sleeps under the blanket as well. It's a lovely weight, a welcome one. He finds he quite enjoys it and that it helps him sleep easier.
As time passes, Ambrosius starts thinking weighted blankets aren't so bad after all. Maybe Bal had a point. Maybe it would help with his anxiety.
So Ambrosius gets a weighted blanket, too.
Turns out, Ambrosius isn't the only one the weighted blankets help--they help Ballister, too. It's a win for both of them.
Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead… where ancient kings laid their greatest treasure, the Book of the Dead, able to raise an army to your bidding. Hugo thinks it’s all a load of bullshit, that is, until he accidentally raises a very angry mummy hellbent on world domination. Now he has to help the mummy track down the people who stole his cursed canopic jars, and hopefully minimize the property damage along the way.
It doesn’t help that his mummy thinks they’re star-crossed lovers or something.
Chapter 5: The hunt for the Canopic Jars continues. Varian and Hugo spend some quality time together.
Sorry this is so late. I’ve been dealing with extremely heavy depression on top of wanting to write more for other fandoms first.
Read here!
Preview:
It’s grand in that it’s big, spacious, and clean. Glass windows line the ceiling, bathing the building in a blue glow in a sky full of empty stars. Hugo tells him it’s something called “light pollution”. The stars are still there, but the city is so bright that they’re drowned out. Isn’t that just the most ironic thing? It’s just like this world. Hugo’s right here, in front of him. But he’s not in sight. He’s hiding, deep beneath a layer of bright lights and flashy signs, of honking cars and… smoothies. Drowned out.
Varian stares out of the window of their little hideout. His reflection stares back, glowing blue eyes almost drowning him out. The kohl around his eyes do little to hide how they shine. He’s wearing a traditional silk robe, stark white and flowing. It’s snatched at the waist by a golden belt, with matching bracelets and earrings… it’s an attire he’s very familiar with, the same he used for all banquets. He never enjoyed those. No, if it wasn’t life or death he wouldn’t be here.
But where would you be? His brain nags him. After all of this is done, where will you go? What will you do?
Take my revenge, he tells himself.
On who? For who?
The world, the pharaoh’s descendents, the court magicians?
All innocent people. Hugo wouldn’t like that.
Hugo… why did it matter what Hugo wanted? Hugo has been doing just fine without him for so damn long, would he even care if Varian left? If they failed? To him, Varian is just a scary stranger who strong armed his way into his life. Uprooted everything.
I'm probably reaching so hard here but I'm starting to think that Rapunzel's purse is a metaphor or tool or something for hers and Cass's friendship. Because here in this scene Cass takes the purse away even though Rapunzel clearly doesn't wanna lose it. Just like how Cass ends the friendship on her own terms and Rapunzel can't deal with that and clings to the idea of their friendship instead of the reality.
And meanwhile in the origin of the purse, Cass gently and openly hands it to Rapunzel, just like how she was mostly open about being Rapunzel's friend. And Rapunzel marvels at both her new purse and her new friendship, treating both with care.
And then later at the end of Great Tree Cass just tosses the purse haphazardly, seeming to not really care if Rapunzel catches it or not. It may be that she knows Rapunzel will catch it though. And once again it's just like the state of their friendship. Because Cass haphazardly throws her friendship at Rapunzel whether she'll catch it or not, knowing she won't let go of it regardless. And now this time Rapunzel doesn't take the time to marvel at the purse, or her friendship anymore.
And even when the flashback ends, the purse as significantly changed since Rapunzel got it. It's decorated with her paint, yes, but it's also a little chipped and dirty. Just like how the friendship has now become damaged and messy
