Lmao it’s very much a scrambled together work in progress and I’m just barely out of the If you walked in my craft room you would assume I was a serial killer stage of customization
(A common exchange between my friend and I when we go out these days: “Hey Cyrus, why don’t you go talk to that cool girl? I think she liiiikes you.” You wake up in the middle of the night to use my bathroom and you see this, what’re you gonna do? “…smothering you with a pillow.” Exactly)
((The bathroom is my primary craft room because there needs to be a door between my project and my cats. My cats have made it clear they Do Not like the dolls. Or they like them too much. Either way I had to wrestle the G1 Venus McFlytrap I was gifted out of one of their little bastard jaws. This is what almost 30 looks like, kids, and I wouldn’t damn change a thing))
Every step of the way I’ve been going back and forth between “hey, this is actually pretty fun! I should’ve gotten into this YEARS ago” and doing my best Griffin McElroy Uh Oh Whoops Oh No impression (it took me seven tries to get the fangs semi-okay. One time I accidentally wiped off the better part of the face trying to redo the fangs and had to start over entirely. My hands were legitimately shaking from anger by the time I told myself it was good enough and made myself walk away)
I’m at a little bit of a standstill with these two, partially because my materials are not working with me (I spent like a month looking up the best color pencils for drawing on doll heads and despite that they still won’t stick no matter how much sealant I use, plus anyone who tells you stretchy fabrics are very forgiving and easy to work with is a liar), meaning I keep having to start over with something different, and partially because my original plan was to specifically make these two into knockoffs of two highly anticipated dolls that I figured I’d never be able to get, as a kind of pft I don’t even care I don’t need that I can make it at home! way. Then my coworkers convinced me to at least try getting the dolls (one of them had a merch drop for one of her fandoms happening at the same time these dolls were set to go on sale. She set a timer and everything, and when it went off she looked at me and told me to lock tf in). Now I’m torn between continuing to make these into fun knockoffs and just displaying them with the official dolls when I get them or pivoting what I have into something else entirely
The last few days they’ve been sitting on my shelf, half finished, judging me every time I walk past them
Anyway this is a great hobby, everyone should give it a try. My blood pressure has never been better
