I'm so sorry y'all I've had the worst sickness these past few days and the only content I have is just pure shit posting.
In the meantime, have some gifs I made of the lords bowing/nodding their head when you meet them! It gives an little indication of their personality.
Edelgard is delicate/regal in my opinion.
Kind of fast but I got lazy but Dimi seems casual/regal
Claude is dramatic/fancy honestly.
I spent too long making these when I should be doing something productive.
I believe it’s gendered! There’s only one instance I’ve found of a man using Edelgard’s bowing style and I honestly think it might have been a mistake seeing as he doesn’t use it all of the other times you see him bowing. Also, I believe that instance above is Dimitri more nodding than doing an actual bow, as he does fully bow at other points in the game. I hadn’t started looking until I’d already cleared a few runs, but here’s the bows I’ve made note of:
The bow that Claude does (one arm in front and one behind), probably Fodlan’s masculine form of bowing: -Above where Claude does it -By Dimitri the first time he meets you in the academy and introduces himself properly -Hubert when you first meet him -First meeting with Abysskeeper in the main storyline -Ferdinand multiple times: in his C support with Petra; S support with Byleth -Unnamed crest scholar (male) in Marianne’s war paralogue (after the battle) -Alois in B support with Manuela
Edelgard-style bow, open hand across chest, probably one of two feminine ways of bowing: -Dimitri in the Remire prologue (possibly a mistake on the animators’ part as he doesn’t use this style later) -Marianne twice: in her B support with Linhardt and in her war paralogue (after the battle) -Petra in VW in the monestary after the battle at Shambhala
Edelgard-style bow, closed fist across chest, probably the second of two feminine bows: -Flayn twice: when you first meet her and in her B support with Seteth -Petra in her C support with Ferdinand -Bernadetta in her C support with Seteth
There’s also the type of bow that is done sometimes by more pious characters (hands clasped in front of their chest with a slight bow), but it seems to be in a category of its own. Several of the people who do that type of bow also do one of the above.
Big thanks to OP for sparking me to obsessivelyobservebowing pay attention to some small game details!
