Steve-O will face charges for his Sea World sign prank.
Steve-O has a TV show called "Jackass" and that seems appropriate for his prank of altering the Sea World sign on Interstate 5 here in San Diego.
He filmed his prank and it has amassed more than 900,000 views. An interesting twist is that PETA is going to pay for his fines. http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Jackass-Star-Charged-for-Vandalizing-Trespassing-on-SeaWorld-Exit-Sign-274011171.html

You have the Right to remain silent, just kidding!
California Police State gets worse with this...Pre-Miranda silence can be used against suspect “It’s a very dangerous ruling,” Zilversmit said. “If you say anything to the police, that can be used against you. Now, if you don’t say anything before you are warned of your rights, that too can be used against you.” The U.S. Supreme Court held in 2010 that remaining silent after receiving the Miranda warnings is not an invocation of the right to remain silent. That case, Berghuis v. Thompkins, split the high court 5-4. The California case involved Tom’s silence before he was read his Miranda rights. The 4-3 ruling said a suspect’s pre-Miranda silence is admissible. http://thedailyrecord.com/2014/08/15/pre-miranda-silence-can-be-used-against-suspect/

La Jolla Restaurant Bookkeeper Convicted of Embezzling Millions
When we hear or read news stories about crimes being committed, the stories, more often than not, concern street crimes – assaults, drug possession and sale, and violent crimes ranging from sex offenses to murder. Less often, the reports concern white collar crimes, but a recent story shows how significant a crime of that nature can be.
The scene was Jack’s La Jolla, at one time a popular barbeque/fast food restaurant on Girard Avenue. The players included Tara Moore, a married mother of two, who served as the bookkeeper for the restaurant, and her employer.
Ms. Moore, police said, abused her position by writing unauthorized checks payable to herself from the restaurant’s bank accounts. Prosecutors alleged that the woman embezzled (that’s the white collar version of “stole”) more than $3 million dollars from the owner of the eatery, ultimately causing the place to go bankrupt several years ago.
In addition to the charges relating to the restaurant, Moore was also accused of taking more than $1 million from another employer, as well as almost $2 million from her former mother-in-law, who is a retired doctor. Police say Moore told her mother-in-law that she was investing the money in a real estate development, but the development apparently did not exist.
The trial of the case lasted for nine weeks, and after hearing the evidence, the jury deliberated for more than three days, and issued its verdict. They found the woman guilty of grand theft, fraudulent appropriation, theft from an elder, and forgery. While the jury did not accept the numbers being bandied about by the prosecutor, they did find that the defendant had stolen $1.1 million from the restaurant; $200,000 from the other employer; and $1.3 million from her former mother-in-law.
As an unrelated add-on, the defendant was also convicted of stealing money from the United States Department of Defense; she was receiving survivor’s benefits after her then husband died, and failed to inform the government that she had remarried, which would have caused the benefits to cease.
Moore now faces up to 20 years in prison. She had been out on bail, but is now being held in jail pending her sentencing.

Friday’s Wall of Shame Winner is…a San Diego realtor caught paying for sex with a 13 year old girl.
Just like his last name rhymes with Lust Pig, Mr. Michael E. Lustig has now pleaded guilty in federal court to prostitution-related crimes, admitting that he (a 70 year old man) paid for sex with a 13-year-old girl on several occasions.
He was indicted by a federal grand jury in October 2013 and entered a guilty plea, sentencing to be held on November 3, 2014. In the plea agreement, Lustig admitted that he used a cellular telephone to contact the 13-year-old minor on multiple occasions between at least October 2011 and June 2012, seeking to engage in commercial sex activity. Lustig admitted that he thereafter engaged in commercial sex activity with the minor, paying the minor in return for sexual activity.

Lengthy Prison Term Expected in DUI Manslaughter Case
It wasn’t your average car accident. It wasn’t even an average DUI case, to the extent there is such a thing. An El Cajon DUI Story.
Our starting point is, not surprisingly, drinking and driving, although the details of the events leading up to the accident are a bit sketchy. In any event, it was around 3:45 a.m. when the defendant, Jason Palmer, got behind the wheel of a borrowed SUV. That’s when the trouble began. What happened, according to police reports, is that Palmer, for reasons unknown, swerved in his vehicle, running up on a sidewalk, and striking a pedestrian, a 20-year old man who was walking home from work. The man was killed, and Palmer allegedly fled from the scene.
Picking the defendant up to arrest him after the crash didn’t require rocket science; one of the license plates from the SUV was knocked off in the accident, and remained at the scene. From that point on, things got even worse for Palmer.
Most people are aware that your prior criminal history plays a role – often a large role – in sentencing on new charges. With regard to Palmer, here’s what his history looks like:
In 2000, he was convicted of misdemeanor DUI and hit-and-run.
Palmer also has prior felony convictions for attempted robbery, burglary, receiving stolen property, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
About two weeks after he was released from his last stint in prison, and while still under the supervision of the Probation Department, he struck the pedestrian while driving in El Cajon.
At his arraignment, Palmer pleaded not guilty to the charges, which included gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, as well as hit-and-run causing death. Last week he changed his plea to guilty on the manslaughter charge. He is expected to be sentenced to 30 years in prison when he appears back in court next month.
We bring this up to illustrate several things. First, we have long since passed the point where the penalty for drunk driving is a slap on the wrist. Even a first time DUI can lead to a mountain of trouble lasting well into your future. Second, once you get behind the wheel while under the influence, there is no telling the disaster that might await you. Finally, having a criminal conviction on your record can haunt you for the rest of your life. Read more here.
