“Shit… Hey, uh, can you tell me where the laundry is?”
“Well... it’s around the corner and then to the left. Are you sure you’re not looking for the nurse’s though?”
“Thank you, Meredith.”
“Yeah, I’m fine. That burning plastic smell is giving me a headache, but fine otherwise.”
“You sure about that? I wouldn’t tell anyone if there’s something else going on, student's promise. Although that smell is unbearable, seriously who’d think it was a good idea to burn the place. We need some serious incense to mask that.”
Looking up sharply at the voice, Harper felt a small hint of recognition as he looked at the blonde. “Flooded the place. God only knows why.” He said, frowning hard. He watched her approach, refusing to budge from his spot and give up his pouting until she spoke again. Quickly, he got to his feet, swearing under his breath. “Fuck, you’re right.” And god, how stupid was he? Letting himself get so caught up in his whining that he didn’t consider how easily he could catch cold from all this.
“I can’t… All my stuff is wet, I don’t have anything to change into…”
“Of course she did,” Meredith sighed, she knew she’d had to count her blessings for the fact her room was still intact. She watched the boy stand up and worry about her words. “Right,” she frowned, trying to think of a solution. “You know, I have some old shirts from my dad with me, because they’re extremely comfortable, and you could probably find some jogging pants somewhere. Also, you could use my shower if you’d like. Sirena is out so that won’t be a problem.” She looked over the distressed boy and tilted her head. “It’s the least I could do after what my roommate did to your room.”
“Yeah, hi, to whoever keeps setting fire to the trashcans in the locker room…”
“Please stop. Please?”
“You tell them professor, make em... regret it?”
“Are you okay?”
what is your favorite passtime?
“Reading, you should try it some time.”
what is something that never fails to make you smile?
“I can’t help laughing when someone falls, it’s hilarious. Oh and a good book and cookies will make my day.”
If you could hook up with anyone in the school who would it be?
“Quinn, but only if there’s one of him, I wouldn’t be able to handle two of those arses. Also Cilllian or professor Carrington. Yup.”
How do you like your roommate?
“She’s alright, not a whiner like the last roommate I had, she’s fierce. And as long as she doesn’t flood our room she’s fine by my.”
“If anyone needs me, I guess I’ll be living in the fucking common room!” Harper shouted, even though the surrounding room appeared empty. He’d come back from class to find his dorm room flooded, and could only imagine what he’d done to piss Sirena off now. Apparently just living in the same building as her was enough now. Harper dragged his dripping comforter out of his water-damaged room and out into the shared living space. His sweatpants were soaked to the knees, the sleeves of his hoodie saved only because he’d pushed them up to his elbows. Swearing under his breath Harper dropped himself onto the couch, finding a dry patch of comforter to curl up on. “Fucking hate everything…”
Meredith was walking up the stairs to go her room when she heard someone in the common room. She walked in curiously and found Harper on the couch. The blonde frowned at his dripping clothes and comforter. She then put the pieces together and sighed. “What’d she do now?” Meredith sighed, knowing that her roommate probably was to blame for this. She sat down on the arm of the couch and looked over the state of the boy. “Don’t you think it’d be wiser to dry yourself up before you go to sleep? You might get sick you know, it’s common knowledge.”
Who has the most interesting dreams?
“Well, Zach has hilarious ones, although I must admit I sometimes am to blame for his dreams. Other than him, I’d say Emerson has pretty creepy dreams, I’d stay away from her dreams. Miss Voclain has pretty epic dreams too, I never understand them though. But Harper… I just love looking at his dreams, they’re so sweet.”
Oh you hurt me, angel.
“Sorry if the truth hurts you handsome. Now is there any particular reason why you’re showing off your jewels?”
“Okay, so I dreamed that I was in my underwear, and I was running up all these blocks, just goin up up up. And I was being chased by a gigantic monster who sort of looked like an ass with eyes and a tongue. But I climb really fast and got to a church like thing before it got to me and that is when I woke up. What does that mean?”
“Dude... what the fuck did you take before you went to bed?” Meredith asked as she stared at Zach. She then handed Zach her notepad and pen. “Draw it for me would you? The surroundings and the monster. It... it would help me find a meaning behind your dream,” she said, trying to hide her smile from her friend.

“Well, I can understand wanting to defend yourself against a rude person. But maybe try just telling them to “fuck off” next time Now, you’re just sucking up. I’ll let it go this time, but next time, I’m forcing you to do stage crew.”
“I could try that, but I’m never really good with telling people what to do. And it’s more boring. Or maybe I just did to talk to my favorite professor again?”
"Okay, you're right, I am sucking up to you right now. Stage crew? Have you seen these arms? They don't do stage crew."
Dan nodded in confirmation that he would help, a smile spread across his face. He cleared his throat when she asked what the research was for. “Uh, just trying to find various applications for them. I’m trying to help him train and get a better grasp of his abilities. He doesn’t like them, but if he learns how to use or control them, he might appreciate them a bit more.”
Meredith looked from Dan to the pages of the book. “I sometimes forget that there are people who do not like their abilities,” she sighed, “most of them love prancing around with it.” She put the book down and looked at Dan again. “So what is his power? Does he set himself on fire? Because then it would be understandable that he doesn’t like his abilities.”
“Yeah, no, some assigned readings are just saddening. Let me know if you need help with any of it, I’ll try my best. English and Literature were my best subjects in school.” Dan patted the pages and slid the book back across the table to her. “Eh, I promised that I’d work to help him. I’d rather be educated on what we’re trying to do than just walk in blind.” Shrugging a bit, he continued. “I don’t mind research so much, when it’s not for class,” he chuckled.
Meredith looked at Dan with the biggest smile she could find. “Please, I don’t think there’s any chance in me nailing this assignment, which is awful because I do like reading. Most of the time,” she said. She picked up another book from the stack and flipped through some of the pages. “ ‘What you’re trying to do’? What is it for?” she asked curiously, “you’re right, having something be an assignment makes it a hundred times less attractive. It’s like the professors love torturing us.”
