Thereâs a few salty buttcracks in the notes talking yucksauce about how this post doesnât make sense so allow me to spell it out:
If you put humans in their proper environ- safe, food enough, shelter, etc- and leave them be, they hum, sing, clap, dance, paint etc. Yes, there is a standard for these things, and they have a biological imperative tied to âdoing things well = sexy 4 matingâ (honestly this mainly just applies to dancing in our case ) but while people donât hum to get fucked, that still just proves my point, because doing something that is considered baseline natural and purposeful ON ITS OWN as a behavior is way different than doing something that is socially considered completely pointless to do unless you will get famous, get acclaim, or make a living doing it.
When returning to art, dance, or singing shows health/mood benefits, it again proves that these are NORMAL human behaviors- i.e. ones EVERYONE should be doing and should certainly not be shunned or pressured away from.
But we consider them PROFESSIONS. Instead of BEHAVIORS.
And that is why now we have people who canât do art bc theyâre ashamed of it not being good enough, people who donât sing bc people only see it as something you do for attention or to get famous, people who donât dance bc theyâre not good at it- despite the fact that dance is a METHOD OF EXPRESSION and your expression is always valid. Weâre held to a standard of âwill this activity make me lots of money or notâ when the activities THEMSELVES are the reward. People stunt and hide their abilities and thus constipate their own self expression, limit their own minds and bodies, and SUFFER FOR IT- the fact that art, dance, singing improves mental and physical health? Just says that the lack thereof contributes to negative life condition.
Why? Because without the arts, humans are incomplete.
