Extremely wild but also very cool! Have fun and I would love to see the result**!”
I may miss (@)s/mentions due to my heavy nocturnal work schedule--if I haven't liked/reblogged/acknowledged something you made for me, it's totally fine to re-up it in my messages/inbox etc
**Unless the work is a fanfiction related to the Tales From The Michigan Fleet series (AKA Boatboys), in which case my coauthors and I don’t look at it for legal reasons but are very supportive and grateful!

COMMISSIONS (short version)
I would encourage checking the full page on a desktop or opening it in a browser to get all the details RE: backgrounds, additional characters, Terms of Service, etc. But the bare-bones prices-only rundown goes thusly:
In a novel new gambit, I just kept drawing when the tingling arrived, and appear to have have drawn for so long that the carpal tunnel gave up again and went away. Fascinating.
Anyway: little tiny progress shot. of my very special boy
Last year I started designing a series of Coat of Arms, themed in the spirit of Pride Month and using different mythological creatures as heraldic animals. I now aim to turn these designs into wearable pins and will be running a Kickstarter in Julyto fund this endeavor!
In addition to these 5 designs I wish to be able to crowdfund enough to be able to also manufacture the following pins and identities:
I have found a very trustworthy local manufacturer, who has already shown the quality of their craftsmanship with the first batch of test pins I received, just look at the detail they were able to produce!
Since I try to support local manufacturers, which produce pins with fair wages and are more ethical than outside of Europe, the pins are more expensive to create than through the usual pipeline via Asia.
I therefore seek to crowdfund the expenses since they would be more than I can afford. If you are interested and look forward to support this little endeavor, please follow the link below to sign up for a mailing list. People who signed up on the email list and pledged during the campaign will receive an exclusive sticker set by the end of a successful launch consisting of the following designs:

January Book Reviews: A Brother's Price by Wen Spencer
I picked up this book on recommendation from @booksandchainmail. In A Brother's Price, spirited and virtuous young man Jerin lives in a world where women outnumber the cosseted and sheltered men twenty-five to one. When Jerin rescues a princess near his family's farm, he falls headlong in love with her sister--but Jerin's status is too low to honorably marry the royal princesses...
Wow, was this book an absolute blast to read. It's effectively a gender-swapped historical romance, and it turns all the usual tropes upside-down. Spencer doesn't play the reversal cheaply for laughs, either. It's genuinely an excellent examination of gender-based tropes rooted in thoughtful worldbuilding, along the lines of Bujold's Ethan of Athos. Men are kept cloistered because their society has a history of desperate women kidnapping husbands, and because a brother's price can beggar a family of sisters. The focus on sexual purity is rooted in a society where polygamy is a necessity and deadly syphilis is endemic and incurable. Prostitutes are all female, but tend to dress like men for the forbidden appeal. And so on and so forth. It's all very well thought through.
The plot itself is pure classic romance novel fluff with a side of vaguely Old Western flavored political intrigue. Jerin himself is a sweetheart, and Spencer resists the temptation to flatten him into a silly caricature to make a point. When we meet him in the first chapter, we almost immediately learn that he's been single-handedly and highly competently running a household of thirty to forty people for at least a year at age fifteen, from the childcare to the cooking to the laundry. No small task, to say the least, and Jerin handles his suddenly changed circumstances with the same aplomb. I did find that the romances were a touch flattened, which is perhaps a side effect of having to write one for Jerin and each sister. However, I greatly enjoyed the later plotline, with Jerin getting his come-out in the royal city, while simultaneously we begin to realize that there's a long-standing plot against the royal family. Crunchy political intrigue is my favorite thing for spicing up a romance novel.
As soon as I finished reading this book, I immediately checked if there were perhaps four or five more romances set in this world, but to my great sadness, A Brother's Price is a standalone. Rats. A compulsively readable souffle of a novel that gently and thoughtfully examines gendered tropes in the historical romance genre.
was that post about the grindy computer game about the planet crafter? if not, i HIGHLY recommend playing it, it's a "numbers go up" game that's very good
It was in fact Planet Crafter lol. Definitely a game that seems custom-crafted to put my brain in a chokehold!
Regarding having no original things to say: you’re one of my favorite authors!!! 🥺 You have lots of original things to say and i am constantly rolling around in your thoughts as communicated through the medium of speculative sociology, speculative linguistics, and high-drama explorations of interpersonal relationships! I think it is safe to say that I have in some way idly been influenced by or directly engaged with your original thoughts almost every single day of my life for the past 8 years??
You must mean some kinda specific topic of original things to say? Or maybe communication through a medium other than fiction?
That's so incredibly sweet, and I really appreciate it! <3 It's always a delight to see your username pop up as well. I don't want to downplay the things I do make or share, for sure, because after all these years I can at least internalize that there are people who get joy from them! My dissatisfaction is more that other people just seem to be more,,, present in their blogs and in communication with their fellow internet denizens than I am. They have original posts, insights onto non-fandom/non-fiction posts, interesting or poetic additions to things. I sometimes feel like I've put myself in a little room; I occasionally peek through the crack to whisper "oh nice" about a piece of art, or slip a piece of my own or little treatise under the door and then listen at it hopefully to see if people say nice things, while other people seem to just be. Outside. ¯\_(゚ー゚)_/¯ If that makes any sense.
Some of that feeling is just my brain hornets--I think some of it is because my additions to posts (especially recently as work has been very difficult and tiring) tends to just be emotional tag reactions. Which I don't think is a bad way to be on tumblr, but which does feel kind of.... ghostly? Tags are less intimidating as a means of reacting to things, in part because they leave no imprint once the post moves on, and I think in a lot of cases the things I have to say are completely appropriate to stay on that level! But I wish I had things to say that did justify being their own additions, and more importantly the self-confidence to feel like that was the case. But I have never had a single Thought. If that makes sense, haha.
On the one hand, I'm stuck in a very grindy computer-game and leaving the computer open and running to keep Number Going Up while I'm out of the house is just saving myself frustration and wasted time. And on the other hand if I'm not around to eat and drink for them, my POV character DOES die repeatedly of low hydration/nutrition and then just respawn in their base over and over again, so there is a truly disturbing existential horror to that that I would dig more into if I had the time or energy. And also. An executive function/depression metaphor tbh.
man, other people truly do just seem to be able to think of things to say. Like, in original posts AND meaningful additions to other peoples' posts. Deeply baffling!! I think maybe I have never had a thought..... perhaps in my entire life??
....the fact that I did in fact have an idle thought shortly after posting this, went "perhaps in the spirit of that last post I should share this?" and received the immediate response "NO NO!!!! It would be gauche and embarrassing to immediately post, right after posting about your lack of posting!! As though you were visibly making some kind of effort to change your behavior! You mustn't!!!!"
