The Vahkara clan was based on a combination of caste and guild system. While there is some who are born into their family’s most popular occupation, the freedom to choose their own role was offered. There was several guilds within Vahkara clan, each headed by the patron who is a noble or even a royalty from the Awandah line itself in cases of multiple childrens.
Royalties:
This consists of the Awandahs including the line that descended from the First Matriarch. Each generation first born female was usually chosen to lead the clan when they become of age (around 16 to 18). In cases of more than one children in the matriarch line, they are given different colored gemstones to prevent the dispute of the throne in the future and instead becomes patrons of the guild that they are destined to lead. Although, there has been cases of twins leading together if gemstones showed the same colors. In events that Matriarchs are killed, they are usually taken over by a sister or a former matriarch if still alive.
Nobles:
Descendents of the first moonkeepers created by Aidzuki, Lady of the Moon. Each children born into these noble families are given a gemstone that will dictate which guild they would lead or contribute to. It is not uncommon to have a family in charge of a guild.
Guilds:
Made up of many villagers and commoners, dedicated to develop their skills and contribute to the work. A member is free to choose what guild they would like to serve in though there has been cases of families being prominent in certain guilds. Guilds can range from anywhere from royal guards to alchemists to beast tamers. New guilds can be developed out of a need for the clan. Guild members typically wear colored beads, jewelries or feathers in their hair to represent the guild that they are associated with.
Untouchables:
Previous members of the clan that has been exiled or outcasted for their unforgivable actions. It is a form of punishment that can be placed onto members of the clan if they betray the family. If children are born from a outcast, they are given a chance to earn their place in the clan if they undertake the trials and succeed. Typically as a rule, it is considered a taboo for the clan to talk to outcasts though more flexibility is given with children born from outcasts.
This is a story, a legend of our origins, where our pride of the moon was found, where our souls was given a purpose that would serve us for generations to come…
In a dark place with an empty world, the Lord of Time found himself wanting company. He created two lovely daughters, equal to each other yet so opposite. One was dark skinned with dark hair and bright slitted eyes. She was vital, excitable and most importantly, stubbornly passionate. She wore a crown of light rays around her head, commanding attention whether she knew it or not. The other one was also dark skinned but not quite like her sister… Her skin was special… If you looked closely, you could see the shimmering white freckles along her skin. Some say she holds all of the stars of all universes within herself and that’s why her skin looks like the night sky. She has dark hair like her sister and white circled eyes, just as luminous as a full moon on a clear night sky. Jikan, their father, named them both Taiyohi, Lady of Sun and Aidzuki, Lady of Moon.
They were given a chance by their father to create their own mortals to live in the blessed lands, now full of life thanks to Hahashizen, Mother of Natures. Taiyohi created Seekers of the Sun and Aidzuki created Keepers of the Moon. Each group are vital to the balance of the world. Despite our differences and in celebration of our similarities, we are integral to the order of things, like Day and Night.
Aidzuki treated her children with gentleness and loving care and preferred women to oversee things for they were more connected with her, more attuned to her feelings. As a result, one matriarch was produced by her. A direct descendent of the moon goddess. This woman was the start of our history, the start of our purpose. Through her, we served Aidzuki and learned from her teachings. After many years, the sisters decided they had taught all they could and ascended into the skies to watch over us as the Sun and the Moon.
They lived in paradise until the first omen appeared, when one deity was stripped of his emotions by his betrayed followers and to this day, his unnatural state seeps darkness into the world, causing wars and destruction within our world. Though we remain strong through Aidzuki’s teachings and lessons, it is inevitable that we may end. We may scatter. We may disappear from this world.
Aidzuki will mourn for us with a crimson tear. It will fall to our world. It will create chaos, grief and pain. However, there is a hope in the wake of its powerful destruction… A seed will be planted. We will reunite. Our souls will pass onto them and live through them and they will live on in memory of our legacy and rediscover themselves.

Largely based within the East, the Goldvine Clan has taken to draw its religion from one of their ancestors, Vahkara Clan. They mainly revere a group of deities named “Tōitsu Seishin” along with kami (sacred spirits) and ancestors worship. One might find Tōitsu Seishin somewhat similar to Eorzean’s Twelve. They are essentially the same deities but found in different cultures (Think Greek/Roman gods). Take a look below to find out more about Tōitsu Seishin!
(OOC note: This is not intended to be canon of FFXIV’s lore or accepted by majority of the eastern population. It is only headcanon of Goldvine Clan though you are free to use this as a reference if you feel like your character may worship these eastern deities, even if they’re not from Goldvine Clan!)

On the surface, it is easy to dismiss the Sesshain. Reserved, stoic, clad in dark colors that call little attention to themselves, they seemed a people who desired only to hide from the world. Yet nothing could be further from the truth. At their height, the Sesshain ruled a portion of the Black Shroud with a firm hand, deferring only to the Elementals, while those who lived in Sesshain-controlled areas of the forest appreciated the stability and safety of life under their rule.
As a clan, the Sesshain were composed of nine houses, each led by a Matriarch. Above the houses was the circle of rule, a council which decided for the clan as a whole. The Matriarchs sat at the highest table in the circle, with advisors and lesser nobility sitting below. In theory all Matriarchs were equal, but in practice the sprawling Awandah family weilded the most influence over the clan in its later years, and the Matriarch an'Awandah's will was seldom resisted.
The stability of this system could have resulted in dogmatic stagnation, save for a pair of uniquely Sesshain virtues: estrane and shanh. Estrane means a great dashing leap, an individual initiative characterized by creative thinking, strong-willed enthusiasm, and a dramatic flair designed to impress and inspire others enough to join with whatever initiative the weilder has set into motion. Estrane balances against shanh, or 'contemptuous indifference to the activity of others'. Shanh is an ancient and noble virtue, and the struggle between the two virtues guided the Sesshain during their most vibrant periods.
The Vhakara were a powerful Moonkeeper clan in Othard. Prefering stability, they rarely challenged others for power, instead lending their support to whoever they felt would best for the stability of the region. Unlike the Sesshain, they actively prepared their members for war, from building magitek cannons to training them for combat. The Vhakara have ancestral ties to the Sesshain - the two clans originated from the same region but left at different times.
The Vhakara fought a slow war against the enemy that drove them from their ancestral home. The constant threat led them to develop magitek technology to a level seldom seen outside of the Garlean Empire. With defensible mountain homes and a focus on war, the Vhakara were well positioned to resist the Garlean invasion of Othard, but their martial prowess and pride led them to be targeted as centers of resistance by the invading armies. Their was merit in their policy of strength, but strategically they could not hold out against the Garlean Empire, and their houses were scattered.
Tropes:
Dark Is Not Evil: Like their cousins the Sesshain; most Vhakara have black hair and dress mostly in black, but are actually pretty reasonable and level-headed people.
Facial Markings: They tend to favor forehead jewels and marks resembling bindi.
Gadgeteer Genius: Though like the Sesshain they are primarily engineers, they have advanced technology to a degree not seen outside of Garlemand.
Massive Numbered Siblings: They tend to have many children, with noblewomen often bearing ten or more.
The Needs of the Many: The reason why the Vhakara tend not to make bids for power, but instead support those who they feel are better overall for the stability of their region.
Wild Card: Surprising for many of their allies who don't understand them. Despite seeming to have supported an ally in the past, they can rapidly switch their support to another, if they see them as the best option for their region's survival.
A once powerful Moonkeeper clan in the Black Shroud, the Sesshain have a very proud and traditional view. Unfortunately this is part of what destroyed them, as their refusal to adopt new members or mate with commoners has meant that they were not able to recover from the triple blows of war with the Ala Mhigans, Garleans, and the Calamity.
A steadfast clan, the Sesshain were a pillar of stability in the Black Shroud, where they settled half a millennia ago. At its height, the Sesshain were equal to the Rosavuoto - a secretive but strong Duskwight clan - in strength, and were known for their mastery of the shadow arts. They sought to hold onto their glorious history, but the combination of waning power, dwindling numbers, and outside invasions stifled the clan from restarting its hopes. Outclassed, the Sesshain returned to their ancestral practice of isolation. Their numbers are now severely diminished, and no remaining Sesshain clans exist.
Tropes:
Blue Blood: They have a very old aristocratic bloodline, but their attempts to keep it this way is largely responsible for their current state.
Cornered Rattlesnake: During both invasions of the Black Shroud, they fought a largely unseen fight against superior numbers and managed to cause both forces a significant amount of trouble by taking very desperate measures.
Dark Is Not Evil: They dress in all black and revere the darkness... but they are no better or worse on average than the other Keeper clans.
Lawful Neutral: Their general strategy and clan philosophy is to wait, like a spider, and not involve themselves in outside disputes unless necessary.
Pride: The Sesshain are a Blue Blood clan and look down on the commoners. While they have long served as de facto vassals to the Rosavuoto clan, they had the sense to treat them as if they were equal allies.
Proud Scholar Race: They had an entire house devoted to scholarly pursuits.
Slobs vs. Snobs: Somewhat on the snobbish side of the scale as they pointedly refused to mate with non-nobles and did not adopt commoners.
Vestigial Empire: The Sesshain are descendants from what was once a powerful Moonkeeper nation to the east, which is where the Vhakara also originated. For several centuries the Sesshain were a major power within the Black Shroud. Unfortunately their numbers took a big hit recently and entire houses have died out, with the Calamity destroying the last strongholds of Sesshain power.
