"Nana-chan, hey, wait up! I thought you left already --- we can leave together!" Miyuki ran out through the front entrance of the high school, pulling the schoolbag strap further up her shoulder. "Hey, wait for me!" She called out, not caring that a few other students had glanced in her direction. Technically, it was after school hours, she didn't have to watch her volume of voice. If it were morning, that would be another story.Â
The second year had jogged after another student, who she had assumed was her fellow classmate and friend Nana. As she grew closer, she stretched out her arm, soon patting the other's right shoulder from behind to gain their attention. Within that moment, she took a leap forward. Now at the other's side, she had flung her arm around their shoulder to give a friendly side hug. She didn't remain in that position for long. Her eyes widened in shock, dropping her arm from the otherâs shoulder.Â
"Oh you're not... I-I'm sorry, that was rude of me!" She exclaimed, taking a few steps back. She was on the verge of spewing apologies, to explain that the stranger had a similar hairstyle and height to her friend from behind. Yet, she stopped herself when she had the moment to study the other's appearance.
Blinking a few times, Miyuki tilted her head to the left only slightly. "Hey, aren't you ---" she started to say, with her index finger pointing at Mirei for only a second then lowered her hand to her side. "Yeah! We're in the same club. Oh, it's me Hirai Miyuki." she said, uncertain if the other had recognized her. While they were in the same club, they didn't have a chance to become close or had much time to converse. Being in a different grade hadn't helped either. "I'm sorry if I scared you. I thought you were my friend. You look just like her from behind if that makes sense. Are you heading home? Maybe I can get you something to drink to make up for jumping at you." she offered with a polite smile, which faltered due to embarrassment for her action. It was the first thing that had popped into her mind. Apparently drinks solve everything.
