The Everbrookāthe multi-agency organisation where the aim is to bridge the gap between the supernatural and human world. An organisation for the community.
Whilst successfully working there for almost four years, you know the ins and outs, know the environment like the back of your hand...or so you thought.
On a day that was supposed to be your day off, you're called in. You do your job as you've done a thousand times before. Then, you're pulled into a mystery. A teenage boy, battered, bruised, covered in blood, screaming and begging for your help. All before he loses consciousness.
Why does he ask for your help?
Because of your sparkling reputation? Because he trusts you? Or, because he's desperate?
Something's off. You know it. Even more so when cracks in The Everbrook start to show. Departments are under strain. Patterns are starting to emerge. What once ran like clockwork is beginning to stutter.
You can't ignore it. Side by side with your best friend, and an unlikely group of allies, you strive to find out what's really going on.
Crack a couple cold cases. Uncover some secrets.
They say the truth will set you free...but what if it changes everything you thought you knew?
Play as male, female or non-binary; straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, graysexual, demisexual, asexual, aromantic w/ the choice of your own pronouns.
Choose your career at The Everbrook: nurse, therapist, lawyer or journalist.
Choose your speciality (cunning, tactician, empathy or combat) that will help you on your mysterious journey...let's just hope your weaknesses don't get in the way.
Romance any of the five romantic options; gender-selectable; male, female and a non-binary option for one. Romance supernaturals or a human. Tropes include: best friends to lovers, rivals to lovers, immortal x mortal, slowburn romance, unrequited love.
Explore The Everbrook's departments and see how well you work with one another.
Have an opinion on the supernatural community. You can become a valued member, or there can be an irreparable bond between you.
Embark on a crazy adventure and discover the truths everyoneās so desperate to keep hidden.
This game is rated 16+ due to depictions of violence, nightmares, death, murder, strong language, and eventual (optional) non-graphic nsfw scenes.
THE BEST FRIEND
Ireland Monroe. Criminal investigator at The Everbrook. More commonly known as your best friend. As the two of you bonded over your similar upbringings: a lifestyle of recognition and riches, your loyalty to one another is always admired. They keep their cards close to their chest, yet you're the only one that can get this perfectionist to show their hand. With their easygoing manner and clever humour, you and Ireland side by side are a formidable force. But maybe stepping over the platonic line will make you a stronger pair.
Friendship is safe, something that should never be ruined. However, maybe there's something beautiful to gain from those ruins.
THE DEMIGOD/DESS
Arguably the best hunter to grace The Everbrook's corridors for decades, Hunter Athalia/Asher Dempsey. With the weight of Ancient Greece on their shoulders; as a distant relative of the Goddess Athena, some would say A has a right to be...prickly. They don't think you belong in this organisation. You and your upbringing reflect everything The Everbrook isn't, and A does everything to make that known. Their snide remarks, sarcasm, and inability to think before taking action always rubs you the wrong way. But if there's anything worth gaining, past the guards they have up, it's their loyalty.
Beyond the tension, the organisation's ideologies, and the hatred... maybe they'll let themselves do the one thing they constantly avoid. They'll finally allow themselves to feel something real.
THE WEREWOLF
Blaire/Blaze Holden is an emotions reader, an overlooked job for a werewolf that despises what they are. Despite their insecurities, B radiates gleaming eyes, soft smiles, and a heart of gold. With their keen mind, charm, confidence, and emotional intelligenceāif there's someone you want in your corner, B's the one to call. They say softness makes you weak, yet B's as strong-willed as they come. Maybe you'll see just how strong they are.
Described as the embodiment of the sun, the people pleaser who puts others first. Will you be the one to give them a love that finally feels like home?
THE VAMPIRE
It's hard to find a criminal. It's even harder to read their mind. Kiana/Kaidan de la Renta is a profiler. One of only three at The Everbrook. Tasked with analysing the unknown in exquisite detail, K's observant nature is one of their best traits. And they have the ego to match. On the outside, they're the typical vampire. Introverted and full of bravado and profanities. But beneath the lopsided smirks and diamond earrings, you'll find something more tender. A sensitive personality, a broken soul...and a desperate cry for help.
Flirting is easy. Vulnerability is scary. You can get them to have both, and finally gain the connection they've been craving.
THE WITCH/WARLOCK
Phoebe/Phoenix Martens is much more than the magic that runs through their veins and bursts from their fingertips. As one of The Everbrook's healers, they're the kind of calm you want to have before, during, and after a storm. The (fake) blonde, blue-eyed magical being has a razor-sharp intellect, and cares more about others than any kind of ego. The suave European seemingly has the perfect life...yet they're the one that's never chosen. Always the last book on the shelf.
Such a gentle and artistic soul is merely more than just reliable. Take the leap. Choose to love them.
I don't know if you have answered this question before... But... Do you have a DEMO or is it a work in progress? I remember playing your game once (or maybe I'm going crazy and that game never existed? š§), but I don't find it anymore unfortunately.
Hello! This is a work in progress, itās a rewrite of the interactive fiction story I was writing a few years ago.
'so do right people with wrong timing get a second chance?' for A please
ā so do right people with wrong timing get a second chance? ā
Aās a pacer. Always has been, always will be. Especially when theyāre overthinking. Like now. Their brain whirling at a thousand miles per hour because their last hunting job was a failure.
A big failure.
Itās nighttime at The Everbrook.
The hallways are filled with skeletons, ghosts, whispers. The kinds of employees that donāt go home at a regular hour. And, right now, youāre part of that group.
Word of A Dempsey and Zeren Uso not bringing in a bounty isā¦something thatāll travel around the rumour mill in the morning. You know that.
So maybe that why your legs find your way going up to the fifth floor. And turning left to go down the hallway to the āforbiddenā Hunters Cornerāthe cliquey corner on the fifth floor that must only be visited by those with Hunters status. So the unofficial rule states.
Not that you care right now.
āHeard you had a tough night,ā you murmur, your voice bouncing on the walls, mixing in with the shadows.
A doesnāt turn at the sound of your voice. They scoff. Annoyed. Restrained. Pissed off.
Their hands move to grip the hem of their black, form fitting shirt. āYeah?ā A asks. āPeople talk too much.ā
The shirt does come off. It reveals a vest underneath. āAre you planning on staying?ā A asks, not as sharply as youād expect. āI have paperwork to do.ā
Whenever you think youāve made headway with A, the barrier is there. The line thatās never crossed. Youāre not friends. Rivals, now, would be too strong a word. Butā¦youāre something undefined.
āDonāt you want to talk about what happened?ā you question, wandering deeper into the corner, standing in front of the demi-god/dess.
A looks at you with an arched brow. āWhen have you ever known me to be a talker?ā
You feel the corners of your mouth twitch upwards. āI thought you were working on your character development.ā
That perks A up. If only a little. Itās a wry grin that they try to hide.
āSorry to disappoint.ā A clears their throat before the silence can wash over you both. āI really do have to get this paperwork done.ā
Your timeās up. You can tell. You can feel it.
You canāt catalogue this in one of your positive experiences with A. But itās not negative either, and maybe thatās a win in itself.
Youāll get another chance. Youāll a wall or two of theirs downā¦at some point.
Can MC be just friends with Asher until they start opening up more to them? Like can we delay the flirting until he opens up more to us?
Yes, you can and itās the same with all the ROs. And you have the decision to lock in whoever you want to romance when itās get to later on in the story. If you donāt have any romance points with the RO you plan to romance, then itāll show in flavour of text.
Ireland's first drabble! It's domestic, tender, emotional and shows that you're definitely just friends...nothing more. That would be weird...
Youāre about to chuckle lightly until you hear Irelandās drawl, āYouāre always there for me when it gets bad.ā
Youāve stayed at each othersā houses many times, more than you can count, yet Irelandās features twist in a way that states that sentence wasnāt supposed to be said out loud. And you hearing it, it feelsā¦different than all those previous invitations.
āif people are books, you are my favourite novel of which I know every chapter by heart; each word of you woven together perfectly, as though you were written for me. and if people are fiction, compositions of ink of which I am the author, then you are my favourite figment of my imagination.ā
āNo. Weāre not dating. We just know everything about each other. And check to make sure the other is okay. And smile randomly across the room at each other. And have full conversations with just facial expressions. And do everything together. And buy things for each other. And comfort each other. And genuinely believe in each other. But no. Weāre not dating.ā
mila i canāt tell you how excited i am for this revamp, as someone whoās been a fan of golden since it first started š«¶š¾š«¶š¾š«¶š¾ had a couple of questions about the mc and their customization:
1. this might be weird of me lmao, but i REALLY enjoyed the options in the original where your mc could just be flat out mean to someone with little remorse (and even get rightfully called out on it) š will we possibly get options like those in the revamp as well?
2. i mightāve missed this in the description, but will the mc still have the option to have vices (like smoking) and/or hobbies?
either way iām so incredibly excited for this!! already wondering what type of mc I should create for ireland šāāļø
Aw, thank you! Yes, you will be able to have those options again. I think it really adds realism to the game, and gives your mcs and the characters in story a personality. The Humble/Elitist stat is there for a reason! And the smoking vice is available, especially as Ireland is a smoker themselves.
1) Does MC still have that "birthmark" on their arm? Seeing as they are now actively in the supernatural world, if they do have it, are they aware of its possible supernatural origins? Would they have gone to get it checked out to see what made them get marked? (Assuming, again, they have the mark)
2) Ngl, when I read "The Golden Thread", I thought MC was gonna be pre-established as a tailor for the organization, like those funny jokes about being a seamstress for a time travelling agency. Which is silly for me to assume but I usually only see the word "thread" on either an internet forum or sewing contexts, so my mind went directly to the latter lol Although it would have been funny to see the fish-out-of-water elements of the previous version be present in the new one by making MC take a non-combat role, something that doesn't put them on field a lot (unless it's to be called to do immediate repairs or modifications on uniforms) but they get dragged into it anyway with the new mystery (which they still do if you choose to be a nurse or a lawyer).
Hi! Iām in two minds about the mark, but me and my writing are leaning more towards no. Even if it isnāt, itāll still definitely be a feature in game.
Thereāll be more Everbrook lore revealed in game, but there are multiple stages to go through to be employed by them. You apply, complete an interview to find out whether youāre successful, and then elements like combat tests, basic first aid etc. (for the non-medical people employed). So, itās definitely not an easy gig to get. Mc is pretty special in that regard.
i was wondering whats the trope for b and for p? i didn't see one on the ro's post you made or is it the same case as the sexualities
thanks,
me
Hello! Yes, itās the same case as the sexualities. They donāt really have specific tropes, but that doesnāt mean their romance routes are fun or angsty to play :)
I'm honestly so excited to revamp the mcs I made for the original if. It's been awhile since I've touched them but now I'm on a journey to redo their pinterest boards let's GO girlies
@princetongirl818 knows how much I check Pinterest like the morning news. It really warms my heart that people put so much thought into their mcs for my story, very cool!
Hii I just wanted to say welcome back and Iām so excited for your rewrite!!! Itās great to see your blog again on my feed and good luck with everything! š«¶
Thank you so much! Itās a pleasure to clog peopleās feed again with my rambles, haha.
I am so excited for the story!!! I have read the previous one so many times and I can't wait to sink my teeth into this, I have a feeling it will take be by a storm plus I can't wait to meet Ireland and be reunited with P and K I have missed them š„¹
Thank you!! I canāt wait until itās available for people to read. Hereās hoping all the characters are still as loveable as they were in the previous demo, and Ireland adds to that!
I remember reading your very first demo, it's really good to have you back!! I'll miss your original vision but I'm excited to see what you do with this version. The most important thing is creating something YOU love, and not overworking yourself!
And to the anon, even if this sounds less interesting than the other version (it doesn't btw), we haven't even read a demo yet?? LET HER COOK!!
Hello, and thank you! And yes, I really do love and enjoy writing this version of the game. It makes me a lot happier overall. Haha, very true, if I cook and you donāt enjoy the mealāthatās completely fine. We all have different tastes.
hi Mila!! just hopping in to say I'm often catching myself missing your characters these days, hence I'm very excited for the rewrite Aaahhhhh!!!! I'm looking forward to revisiting the story in a somewhat new setting. And to meeting Ireland! sending lots of hugs and motivation your way
Hello! Thank you for your excitement and well wishes. It means a lot that youāre still thinking about my characters. Iām hoping the rewrite is worth it, and everything people want it to be and more. Iām also excited to introduce Ireland, mostly because I get to briefly mention cowboy boots and hats every so often now, haha.
Will the mc have some supernatural origin or will they be plain old human?
Human in the sense where they donāt have any powers, but at The Everbrook, theyāve had a lot of teaching about the supernatural so they can definitely hold their own, in a fight, for example.
