atsumu is in love. he is completely, utterly, undeniably in love with you.
he put you before volleyball.
this is something that surprised even osamu, that his brother willingly missed practice to go check up on you because you had just gotten your period and were having the worst cravings in the history of the world. he even begged- like, on his knees begged- his brother to make your favorite onigiri because he knew you would crave it eventually.
he came to the realization as he laid awake at 4 in the morning- knowing full well he had morning practice, mind you- listening to you talk about the new anime you had started and couldn’t stop watching.
“i love you” he suddenly blurts out, interrupting you in the process. “sorry,” he adds on, “i didn’t mean to cut you off, you just look so gorgeous — i couldn’t help it.”
you laugh, “ ‘mu, i don’t think one can be called gorgeous at three in the morning with pimple cream on my face.” you roll your eyes and smile at him, “but i love you more.”
“you can. you’ve always been the most stunning person i’ve seen, and a little pimple cream won’t change that.”
“wow, i should call you at 4 in the morning more often, who knew you could be such a sap?” you coo.
he rolls his eyes, “okay, it won’t change it that much, ugly.”
you shake your head, replying “you love me.”
and boy, does he show it — more specifically, he shows it at a volleyball game.
“ ‘mu! you did so well! i know you lost, but that quick? holy shit, i knew you were good, but i didn’t realize you were that good.” you ramble, pulling him into a hug, “wow, my boyfriend really is the best at what he does, isn’t he? maybe i won’t have to work in the future-”
“marry me.” atsumu interrupts, slightly pulling away from you.
“i- what?” you exclaim, “we’re second years, tsum. i mean, sure, i’ll marry you eventually, but-” you trail off as he pulls something out of his bag.
he gets down on one knee and holds out a blue ring pop. “marry me?” he asks, winking.
you burst out into giggles, “of course.” you hold out your hand and let him slide it onto your finger.
you both smile at each other with faces so bright they could rival the sun and pull each other into a hug. “i love you” you whisper.
“i love you more” he whispers back
“nope, i love you most.” he interrupts and kisses you.
little did you both know, the imarizaki volleyball team had been watching your little moment, with them all looking as shocked as ever. who would’ve thought that someone could make their resident volleyball monster smile like that?
you both walk back towards where you thought the team was and they all clap, with little “congratulations on the engagement!” and “good luck dealing with him for the rest of your life” sent out and you flaunt your ring pop, loud laughs escaping your lips. atsumu watches you with love filled eyes, and suna makes sure to snap pictures of that too, assuming you’d want to keep them for a rainy day.
and keep them for a rainy day you did. during his best man speech, osamu makes sure to tell the story of how they whole inarizaki team witnessed the original engagement - pictures and everything. of course, everyone cooed and awed, but the thing that sold them? the fact that atsumu had kept the original wrapping and ring of said ring pop, with a “they said yes!” wittten in his classic chicken scratch, complete with both your signatures.
