I really like Alberto mielgo art! I'm a Big fan! Watching The Witness for the first time changed my life and i'm not joking, i used to look at his portafolio for references all the time when i was more younger. I WILL always look up to him.

BUT a while ago i came up to a twt thread where someone pointed out the misoginy in his work, saying that he had a strange fixation with naked women... I don't think there's something particularly wrong with it, many artists draw naked women, Jamie hewlett is a Big example. But i couldn't help but notice that he often self inserts himself in a lot of his works, and he often puts himself dating or having some kind of sexual tension with tomboyish kinda women.

I'm pointing this out bcs, the other day his Cinematic short for Marathon came out. And i absolutely loved it! But i noticed a that the SAMa pattern repeated.

A Big male chasing a tomboyish woman who can look strong and rude, but she is vulnerable at the claws of this Big man.

The same with jibaro, a powerful woman, being vulnerable at the damage of a Big man

Same with The Witness, a stylish tomboyish woman, vulnerable, and being chased by a men who is suspiciously A LOT like Alberto mielgo himself.

I'm not saying that he is a misoginistic perv, i really like him, i'm just pointing out some common problematic stuff in his work that i think needs more attention.

At the end of the day, art is expression, and meanwhile he's not hurting anyone it's okay, but we need to pay attention at the people that we are looking up to.
