Malaclemys terrapin or the Diamond Terrapin

Diamond Terrapins are found in coastal salt marshes, tidal creeks, and estuaries. The Diamondback Terrapin's skin is thick enough to block out the salt from this water, allowing it to live in these environments.

Habitat: originally the southeastern US, but is an invasive species in many parts of the world

Populaation status: not endangered

they brumate in winter

they are the worlds most commonly traded reptile

they carry a high risk of infecting humans with salmonella bacterias
