A shameless self-promotion, the level that I’ve made that I think feels the most like it could be an actual Mario level is an airship level called Sky Ride. As with any ship, don’t forget to look for treasure!

Why would you ever feature a level that isn't a 5 on the fun rating? Or, what is the purpose of the "fun" metric?

There are a number of different things that can make a level good without it being necessarily the most fun. For instance, if the level uses items in a creative way that I’ve never seen before. Each of the categories I’m using are ones that I wish had been built into the game to help make finding enjoyable levels easier. Sometimes I want creative and easy levels, other times hard but fun ones. The ratings I give to levels helps make finding ones that you’re feeling like playing easier to find.

Each of the ratings I’m giving levels are used to compare good levels to other good levels – it’s a relative system, not an absolute one. Every level I post are ones that I’ve played through and enjoyed, and think that you might, too!

I also tag all the levels I post along with each rating category as an individual tag. If you are only interested in levels I’ve found with a Fun rating of 5, you can do a tag search for “#fun 5″ and only get those levels.

This was a fun level, with some really creative designs! For the purposes of this blog, I’m actually going to bump up the difficulty to 5, mostly for not having any powerups greater than the mushroom for the gauntlet, and for the one path that has no alternative if you miss a vital item much earlier.

Silent Mario

Everything seems normal at first in this World 1-1 remix, until you get to the end. Then you start to question what is real, and must dive deep to get to the bottom of things. Well placed secrets, a fantastic and well executed idea, and being hard without being unfair makes this probably my favorite SMM level that I’ve played yet.

Looking for Good Super Mario Maker Levels!

I’ve been playing Mario Maker for the past few weeks, and like others have found it difficult to discover levels that are fun and creative, and are levels that might be like those you’d find in a Mario game without being auto-play, gimmicky, or unbeatably hard. So I’m going to be going through the levels I’ve found that I think fit in these categories, and give them a 1-5 rating in the following categories:

Creativity (1 = Uncreative, 5 = Very Creative)

Fun (1 = Not fun, 5 = Very fun)

Difficulty (1 = Easy, 5 = Hard)
