I started thinking about it during my senior year of college, when my parents began asking about my plans after graduation. I already had a part-time remote job with a company located in my hometown, and they said they would love for me to become a full-time employee. The only catch was that I had to show up in the office three days a week. So, returning home seemed like the only option.

I couldn’t afford rent in Miami yet, and I didn’t want to live with my mom and dad either. So they came up with a plan: they built an ADU in the backyard, and I could stay there until I improved my financial situation. At first, I was skeptical, but as soon as the house was built and I moved in, I loved my cozy place.

Now I can’t imagine living anywhere else. I stayed in an area I knew well, some of my high school friends were still here too, and the best part was that I got to live on my own while staying close to my family, whom I had missed so much after years away at college.
