Typographic inspiration - recommendations

One word one colour - Task 11

    This task seemed like a challenge to me because from the outside it seems like an easy task, but in fact it is quite difficult to choose the perfect color to illustrate a word. When I think of infinity, I look at the sky and what is beyond it. The first idea was to find the perfect light blue, the color of the sky. After several suggestions to make it the color of the universe, a dark blue, I felt that it was not right and that this was not what I was feeling. The result is a baby blue, and in the printed image a more faded blue came out .

   I used the Bauhaus 93 font because it has some bold and curved lines.

Task 10

    This is one of my favorite tasks because I love graffiti and I played around a bit in Illustrator until I arrived at a pretty cool prototype. I made several sketches at the beginning and then digitally I decided on the colors black and red. Personally, all the sketches give me metal band logo vibes :))

    I drew the first prototype by hand and the second one I used the Kingoff Regular font.

Romanian infinity - Task 9

    In task 9 I had to use my accent and intonation to create the design of a word. Being Romanian, I have a rather strong accent and distinguish it from the English one. In Romanian, "infinity" is called "infinit". It is quite similar, the only difference is the last letter at the end "y". For the rest, when I pronounce the word, both in English and in Romanian, I emphasize the "i". So I thought of making "i" bigger than the rest of the words, including "y", but making the last letter more faded.

Sometimes it's messy

      The first 2 sketches are from tasks 3 and 4. The following are from task 9. The first two drafts were supposed to appear in the previous posts, but at the moment I thought that they were spoiling the "aesthetic" of the post and that it didn't look good compared to the rest. 

Then I looked at other artists projects and realized that it doesn't have to look good, it has to show the process I followed and how I thought about the task. Now, looking at them, I realize that they help the viewer more to realize where I started with the idea and where I ended up. In addition, it shows that it is not so easy to come up with a good idea that looks good from the first, but you have to work quite a lot. These sketches also show that even if the sketches are super messy, the result can be clean and finished.

An experiment - Task 8

This time I tried to experiment for task 8 because it seemed like the right time to learn to work in Adobe Illustrator calumea. I took the word "infinity" and put it in the Leelawadee UI font and then turned it into paths. I have used this technique in the past but now I was able to sit and try all the options and everything that came into my head. It looks quite amateurish but I like it and I'm glad I was able to create this.

Different typefaces - Task 7

     For task 7 we had to choose the main word from the reference text and transform it with the help of 15 typefaces. I chose from simpler, cleaner fonts to gothic or funky ones. Some of the most interesting fonts I've used are Bauhaus 93, Carina Pro Bold , Avebury , Harrington , Cy and Juice ITC .

Typography execise - Task 4

     For this task we had to arrange the text made for task 1 and combine it with the sentence chosen from task 3. I chose to change the presentation of the text a little because I thought it was not good enough, compared to what I saw in class. Then I chose to keep the chosen sentence as a final one as it was in the previous text because when I thought about everything, "To infinity and beyond" was a motivational ending.

    I chose to continue using the Baskerville font because it seemed perfect for my text. For the main text I used Baskerville Regular and for the chosen sentence I used Baskerville Bold.

My manifesto - Task 3

For this task we had to choose a sentence and a made-up word from the text we wrote but which would summarize his idea. I chose my favorite quote said by Buzz Lightyear from the movie Toy Story because when I was little it was like a motto for me and I grew up with it. The main word I chose is "infinity" because it inspires me the idea that everything is endless that everything is possible. I used the Milka Dry Regular font because it seems to me that it gives the vibe of writing on some walls and is close to graffiti.

Typography - good and bad -Task 2

I chose to illustrate the second task with two book covers. The first cover belongs to the book "The lord of the rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien and from my point of view it is a good cover because the font is the right one, the size is ok and the chosen color fits very well with the color of the cover. It is a simple but beautiful cover. The second cover is of the book "Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus". I think that this cover is not a good one because more than half of the writing on the cover is illegible and cannot be understood because of the chosen font, the colors in the background, the size of the font and even its color.
