ian , and i cannot stress this enough , hates his family name. any time he introduces himself to an adult in mckinley , they're quick to identify him as blaine's son. with a growing disdain towards his own father , and a desire to be completely separated from his family , ian has been taking measures to even go as far as to legally change his last name.

after the tri - centennial , there's quick arrangements for a service and burial. the fact that ian , blaine mckinley's only child and beneficiary to the family name had died in such a horrific and grisly way was enough to draw a crowd. his father spoke emotionless at his son's funeral , though it could be argued that perhaps he was just in denial this was really happening.

so , ultimately , ian got everything he never wanted for his funeral : a large , curious crowd , his father speaking on his behalf , and then getting planted in the ground next to his mother , forever resting in the clutches of his family.
