startled by the sudden barrage of mich.ael jack.son gifs.
"Oh, come on!"
"Sorry, but I ain't tellin'!"
"Fine, be that way!"
"You startled me. Where did you even come from? The bushes?"
"It's my little secret."
"Oh, come on!"
"Mike!"
"Yes?"
"You startled me. Where did you even come from? The bushes?"
"Mike!"
"Man, I could really go for some froyo."
"What's a froyo?"
"Frozen Yogurt. It's like ice cream but it's made with yogurt instead of cream."
His laughter grew louder and harder. Poor her, listening to all that day in and day out. No wonder she wasn't a fan. He almost felt sorry for her. "Yeah, let's try the kitchen." They made their way there and the music while still fairly loud was somewhat muffled. So it was improvement to say the least.
"I don't think so." At least he hoped not. It was still broad daylight and anything was possible. For now, he'd try not to worry about it. "You still talk to that Jeremy kid?" He recalled the freckled face of a red head boy who sometimes hung around her. Much like Anthony, he was another enthusiastic fan, sometimes a little much but he could forgive him. He was still a child after all.
She followed him into the kitchen where it was a bit more quiet. At least they wouldn't have to shout and her dad's music was more distant sounding.
The mention of Jeremy's name made her groan. She could feel a headache coming on. "That kid." she muttered. Funny because they were so close in age but she felt older than him sometimes. Like she was the big sister and he was the insufferable younger brother. "Sort of. He lives close by and I go to school with him so it's kind of hard to avoid him entirely."
If he knew about her friendship with Michael she'd never hear the end of it.
Poor Jeremy. It seemed Dani wasn't fond of him. "You find him that annoying, huh?" It sorta reminded him a little of him and his siblings and Jeremy and Dani certainly that annoying sibling dynamic.
Jeremy's mom, Karen, on the other hand..Now she was rather overbearing. He had the so-called pleasure of meeting her a couple times and she was nothing short of uptight. It seemed she had an awfully strict schedule for her son to follow. Needless to say, he felt sorry for the kid.
She laughed. "Hate to say it, but yeah he's kind of annoying. His mom really weirds me out though. She's always so strict and she acts nice but it doesn't feel genuine, you know? Like she's some kind of alien trying to play human. It's creepy." In the midst of their conversation, her dad's music quieted and she overheard over mom's voice. The exchange was interesting to say the least.
"Dear, whose car is that parked outside?" "What car?" Dani and Michael went quiet. Dani went over to the hall, just barely peeking out of the kitchen just to eavesdrop.
"There's a Mercedes Benz outside." Carrie's arms folded over he chest as she leaned against the door frame of his office. Anthony sounded bewildered. "I haven't the slightest idea, dear." he said.
Her reassurance warmed him. "Yeah, for sure." The music really was getting louder and he found laughter bubbling from him. Her dad's singing really was something else and he found it difficult to stop laughing. "Does he do that a lot?" It seemed he did. In fact, he recalled a handful of incidents where he overheard his singing, usually to his music but sometimes other people's.
It was almost shocking when he did.
"Is there somewhere more quiet we could go?" Maybe the kitchen would be a better spot. Or outside. But outside might cause too much commotion and he feared what might happen if her neighbours noticed him. He already felt apprehensive earlier when he stepped out of the car and went to her doorstep.
"All day, every day." Her voice was almost a groan and she could hardly hold back her eye rolls. It was certainly an annoyance but there was no stopping him really, he enjoyed himself far too much and as irritating as it could be, she just let him be.
At least Michael found it amusing. "Maybe. I'm not too sure where else, there's the kitchen and there's my room..There's outside but people might notice you and get crazy." She shuddered to think of the crowds that could potentially form if they did. "Speaking of which, did anyone see you come in?" Her own paranoia was starting to set in. Come to think of it, she had heard the odd rumour and she tried to shrug them off. Sometimes people would ask her and she'd flat out deny she even knew the man just to throw them off the scent but people talked.
And boy, did they talk.

He nodded, it was something to look forward to later. For now, he too wanted to keep playing catch up with her. It really had been too long. "Oh, okay."
The mention of his family made him pause. "A little bit. Everyone's so busy you know. I was asked to do something for the album my brothers are making but uh.." Much as he loved them, his heart wasn't exactly into the project. He enjoyed his personal creative freedom too much. "I don't know if I'll do it but we'll see."
She got his drift. It must've been a difficult situation and she felt he didn't feel like divulging into too many details so she wouldn't press. "Ah, I see. Well you do what feels true to you, right?" She offered him a small smile.
The music was getting a wee bit louder and if it were any louder she might not have heard him at all. "Are we going to have to start shouting?" Her eyes drifted towards the home office of her dad's. Dirty Diana had just come on and she could hear his off-key singing just as much as the music itself.

And boy, did they talk.
His face scrunched in laughter. "God, you're right. " Thankfully the music was a bit louder than him and Anthony seemed to be off in his own little world. For now he'd count the precious minutes of peace he and Dani had together.
"Oh, I haven't heard of them. What music do they do? You'll have to show me sometime." Starfish by The Church. He made a mental note to get someone from his team to fetch him a tape if he liked it enough. In the time he had gotten to know Dani, he had become familiarized with her taste in music; it was kind of a dark punk, some of it very bass heavy. She had shown him a vhs recording she made of Sisters of Mercy's This Corrosion and frankly, the song had made its way into his head for a few days after that.
Besides her dad playing loud music, the house seemed empty besides him and Dani in the living room. Come to think of it, he hadn't seen Carrie. Granted, he hadn't exactly seen Anthony either but his presence had been made known awhile ago. "Where's your mom?"
His laughter was so contagious. It was impossible to not smile when he was smiling. Hopefully they wouldn't get too loud and her dad wouldn't come in, screaming and flailing his hands around. But it wouldn't be the first time either and being so close in proximity to such a prolific person was just part of the deal.
"I think it'd be easier to show than to explain, but yeah I can." Maybe later she'd show him. For now she just wanted to chit-chat and catch up. God, when was the last time she saw him? It must've been nearly a year.
"I think she's at a meeting right now but she should be home soon." It was hard to say. Her meetings had a tendency to drag on. "Have you spoken to your family at all lately?" She knew his relationship with them was rather complicated but they all seemed to love each other at the end of the day.

"I hear you, it's been far too long. I've been so busy." Much as he loved his work, it could be demanding and once in awhile he just wanted things to slow down, just a little bit. "It's really nice to see you again. How are your folks?"
"Mom's fine, she's got a promotion at work so she's really working her way up. Dad's dad. Replaying your new album on repeat and being annoying as hell about it." Her lips spread into a smile, the absolute ridiculousness of the statement was not lost on her. God, it was so funny to complain to the man himself about it. Was this really her life?
A laugh left him. It really was funny. He knew she wasn't much of a fan of his music and he was fine with that. Her dad however was quite the devoted fan. Both his own encounters and Dani's stories had told him that. "Oh, wow a promotion. That's great. You said she does something with interior design?"
The ranch was slowly coming together. Maybe he'd get Carrie's opinion on a thing or two. "I hope you've been well. What've you been doing?" They had plenty to catch up on after all.
"I've been all right, just finding new things to listen to. Recently I got a new album by The Church, it's called Starfish. I really like the track Reptile." It was somsething she had been quite into as of late. "Yeah, she does. She really enjoys it. She's really got an eye for that sort of thing." Their house was a good example of how the different colors complimented one another.
Her thoughts were interrupted slightly over the sound of her dad playing a certain track from a certain pop star's new album all too loudly. Shocking he hadn't noticed the man standing in their living room..yet.
"I almost would ask you to get him to settle down buut I think that might have the opposite effect."
His face scrunched in laughter. "God, you're right. " Thankfully the music was a bit louder than him and Anthony seemed to be off in his own little world. For now he'd count the precious minutes of peace he and Dani had together.

"you can trust me with the truth."
PROMPTS FOR CHECK INS
Was it really that simple? It probably was. Still, she felt complicated. As trustworthy as he had proven himself, it was still difficult to talk about it. "It's just.." Thoughts formulated in her head much like the knot in her stomach. "It's kind of difficult. It's hard to be close with someone who attracts insane crowds of people when you just want to exist. I wish we could just be."
"I've missed you."
"I've missed you too. Hope work isn't being too hard on you." She might've been a foot shorter than him but it didn't stop her from at least trying to hug him. Her arms wrapped tightly around his waist. He smelled like vanilla.
"We need to do something fun."
"What are you listening to?"
She smiled before removing her headphones. It wasn't often people approached her, let alone show an interest in her music. "Just Cocteau Twins, I really like their Treasure album."
