In the end, this was, in a beautifully ironic way, the very result of the less privileged career he has had compared to his contemporaries. It's what got him this gold.
If what you guys theorize is correct, Mikhail coming from a country with such a small federation, where indoor ice time is only for wealthy, where he grew up skating on outdoor and public rinks just like Denis, and where he wouldn't have ever had the opportunities he had if he hadn't been picked up by a Russian coach at a young age all actually helped him. He won gold, very simply, because he did better than everyone else did. When faced with an unstable, unlikely situation on the rink, his upbringing skating on poor quality, rough ice was what gave him the advantage in adaptability, and that's a genuine win in my book.
We can discuss and argue about the fairness of the IOC and Milan having such poor rink conditions for an Olympic competition, but at the end of the day, given the circumstances, Mikhail surpassed his peers in terms of the ability to be consistent, perform at a high level, and adapt when faced with a warm rink, and that is a genuine and valuable set of skills and talent he has, and has now reaped the rewards for.

Yesterday my tiktok feed was flooded with weird history white bro type of content, mostly about how great China is. This stuff is always risky to watch bc those people usually don’t have any clue what they are talking about and don’t provide any sources and it’s just super easy to fall into the propaganda machine this way, not necessarily Chinese propaganda but any shitty national narrative.
The thing that upset me very deeply was just some random dude who was talking about The Great Leap Forward and started his tiktok by saying that Mao Zedong wasn’t responsible for a mass famine and deaths of thousands of people. He said some shit that wasn’t backed by any serious and real evidence, completely ignoring tons of works that covered this topic in depth and have proven that yes?? Mao was indeed responsible for the famine and many other very very bad historical events. It bothers me cuz it was so easy to debunk all of his points by just simply opening Wikipedia (which has legit sources!!).
BUT what bothers me the most were the comments. People in the comments were praising him for sharing the truth because they think that socialist countries are the only ones being criticized in historical records and works. Which??? is so not true, there are SO many good works covering US crimes, Europe and colonialism, you just have to be not lazy enough to type that in the browser. As I said even Wikipedia has great coverage of idk US crimes and it’s written in a very cohesive, neutral language (like u know, encyclopedia should, but maybe that’s what’s bothering those people).
EVEN CCP SAID AT ONE POINT THAT WHAT MAO DID WAS A CRIME!!!
Ofc I’m talking about the coverage of such events in the academic field (as were the comments) not the popular, public ones which are just influenced by the ruling parties.
There was one comment by some white guy with young Mao as his pfp who shared a meme about communism and said that he’s a newbie comrade and that he appreciated the vid. Crazy.
I think about myself as a person who heavily values socialistic ideas, and this kind of dudes just kill me. Communism is not about worshipping Stalin or any figures like that which worldviews were so clearly led by the need of power. It’s not about posting funny memes about Marx.
Ofc there were some comments asking for sources and they were all ignored lol
