His eyes widened into a glare. His voice was low and only made its way out through his teeth. Every single action from now on was a tell, every breath he’d take was to expand his chest and to ride along words that were going to sting.
Tongue in cheek, the hand that held his cellphone ended up by his side as he refused to hear the person on the other line. You could only watch from behind the kitchen counter, to continue what you were doing with a sign of caution. In fact, you lost your appetite for a moment when you heard Jaebum talk into the phone.
“ We’ve been cooped up, for how many years now? No, no. You listen to me. If we don’t get a break, I swear to God we’ll just leave the goddamn company. “
At that, he hung up and tossed his phone onto the couch.
“ Jaebum? ” You spoke quietly, putting down the knife and peanut butter as you walked around the counter to approach him. “ Is everything o - ”
“ Remember when I told you I would have that week off? ”
“ Make it two weeks, I don’t give a shit what they say. ” He turned his back to you, taking a breath. “ I haven’t had a legitimate break since I don’t know when. I’ve worked on Christmas, I’ve worked on Chuseok, I’ve worked on fucking Children’s Day for God’s sakes. ”
You knew very well that he loved his work, because he never called it work. He called it a dream to perform to the best of his ability, to improve himself, for the sake of something he loved as much as music. He rambled on, about the days he should have been with his family. And even the days he should have been with you, or with the members. He grew visibly more frustrated, his hands knotted in his hair as he paced around the small space between the couch and the coffee table. Just as he looked as he was about to burst, you put your hand on his.
Your touch had him suddenly freeze, he’d been working on his temper. Hell, even his fans knew how much of a temper he had. It was a part of him, something he wouldn’t truly get rid of but to do this in front of you. He began to regret it all.
You spoke quietly, slowly interlacing your fingers with his as you stepped in front of him to catch eye contact. His gaze really softening as he tightens his grip slightly.
“ I have never seen you this stressed before. Maybe you need to just sit on it for a bit, take a night to relax. You can stay here, with me. ” When you smile at the suggestion, shining a little positivity towards him. He took a deep breath, filling his chest and nodding as he exhaled.
“ Yeah, I’d - I’d really like that. ” He gave you a small smile, it was something.
But something that really made your heart flutter was what came next. When his arms were suddenly wrapped around you. He held you tenderly, but it was still as though he’d never want you to leave. Your arms make their way around his waist and you stand there for a moment, slowly rocking back and forth.
A silent thank you like this was more than enough from Jaebum.
When you pull away, you feel the flush on your cheeks. Tucking a strand of hair behind your ear, you look down and then back up to him. “ You hungry? I was just making a peanut butter and nutella sandwich. Sound good? ”
His hand was still with yours, he tugged on it slightly to kiss your forehead.
