“You can’t see the stars from here…” (Samuel)

“Yeah it’s all that darn light pollution, back home you can see all the stars in the sky. I think I miss that the most since comin’ here. Anythin’ you miss?” She replied, as she looked up at the barren sky with just a couple of small stars shimmering. Back home you could see what looked like an entire galaxy which was, much better and different than...here.

Samuel looked up as she offered a game night and smiled at her. “Yeah? I wouldn’t mind a game night here. Never been bowling so could definitely give that a try.” He murmured, humming as he gave her another smile. “Bambers?”

Samuel nodded his head in agreement. Bigger towns always had more light pollution. “I miss my mom and my Aunt Gale and Uncle Dewey. We use to do a game night, Uncle Deweys idea, and we would sit around for hours just having fun.” He smiled and rubbed the back of his neck.

“Oh come on, the pun is right there.” Said Noir with a laugh, dark eyes looking over the teenager in abject boredom. “But I can tell, someone has their guard up, it’s completely understandable. How’s your mother doing? I’m sure she must be worried sick about you. What brings you to this dark part of the woods?”

He uses the shadows to encircle the boy. 

“Don’t you know the darkness isn’t a safe place?”

Samuel let out a sigh as the other spoke. He was definitely not amused but when his mother was brought up, he stiffened. He hadn't mentioned his mother to really anyone but Sally-Mae so the fact this guy had picked him out got under his skin.

"Just exploring the area and getting to know everything." He said, not liking how the shadows went around him.

"Yeah I know but I'll be okay."

“That’s not something you announce proudly to the world.” (Samuel)

Sarah rolled her eyes, “What?  The fact my aunts and mom sold my soul as a baby bothers you?  Please.  It’s hardly an announcement.  It’s a requirement to be a witch of the Salem Tradition.  And that?  Being in service to the Master and having His favor?  That, I am proud of.  Does that bother you?”

Samuel nodded her head, not agreeing with the not crazy part but not saying anything either. “Right. Sure. Whatever you wanna believe.” He shrugs, tilting his head a bit. “You can be proud of whatever you choose to be proud of. I just dont think that not having a choice in something like that is crazy.”

“I’m so sorry. I really don’t remember.” (Samuel)

“Sure you do! I’ve heard of your ma’s story! The girl whose like the ultimate final girl or whatever. Who like faced up against all those-oh well I guess you don’t like talkin’ ‘bout that. Sorry, sometimes I just put my foot in my mouth.” She said with a chuckle before clearing her throat. “Name’s Sally-Mae.”

Samuel blushed at the compliment and smiles back at her.  He liked talking to someone so nice. It was a bit of a breath of fresh air. Sure, no one was ever too harsh or mean but this girl just seemed truly sweet.

“Never did either of those, actually. Mom wasn’t much for that kind of thing and I never really made much friends.”

Samuel nodded his head a moment before shaking it. “Ah, nope. No I would not but thank you for the peep show of crazy inside of your noggin.” He said, stepping back a bit more again. Why would want to have satan as a master? This girl apparently.

“Well, any consolation, I don’t think you’re some crazy hillbilly so you have one person behind you.” Samuel chuckled a bit, trying to bring a little humor or something alike. His mother never talked much about what happened, especially since her cousin had been one of the many bad guys that she had the run in with, and made it a strict rule to never bring it up again.

“That’s not that bad of a quality to have, though. You probably make many friends by doing that.” He smiles. “Oh, I uh, I like it. I like the snow but i’m not much of an ice skater or skiier so I’m stuck on trying to find something around here to do other than drink hot chocolate and people watch.” He chuckled.

“A little bit. Seems very wrong in my opinion but to each their own I guess.” Samuel rolled his eyes and sighed. “Which master would that be exactly?” He asked, curious but at the same time just answering his questions before he could just leave. Maybe he’d go skiing.

Samuel hummed a bit. “It’s not that I don’t like talking about it but it’s not a very welcome story in my house. My mother just wants to grow from everything and kind of... live without the horror.” He chuckled, shaking his head. “I’m Samuel, but I’m guessing you knew that already. Nice to meet you.” He smiled at her.
