Artworks for The Last Unicorn, by Frank Stockton

I’ve never owned a bjd and I’m honestly thinking about buying a recast just to experiment with. I have no idea what I’m doing and I’m terrified of destroying a legit $500+ doll. Is this okay to do so I can have more experience when I do buy a legit?

If you purchase a recast for any reason, you are contributing to the theft of dolls from their rightful creators, and could help fund the theft of new, artist dolls without meaning to. I understand what it’s like to be new in the hobby, afraid of ruining an expensive investment. However, there is great support in the community to show you how to play with, or customize, your doll safely. Literally everything has been done and there is a tutorial for everything – just check Den of Angels if you don’t believe me! - and what’s more is that there are relatively inexpensive dolls that you can purchase for well under 300$ that are legitimate, and can work as good starter dolls until you are comfortable purchasing the dolls you’re most interested in. Do some research into the hundreds of doll companies out there, work towards Marketplace access on Den of Angels (where you can find secondhand dolls at good prices!), and purchase legitimate. You are doing yourself and the community a favour, as recasts have become a huge issue in the hobby, and have caused legitimate doll companies (and artists) to go under. Be careful, and be happy!
Loving kindness is giving others happiness. Compassion is removing others’ bitterness. Joy is freeing others from suffering.

Most people I know had that one movie as a kid; that one movie that they would watch it over and over and over to the resigned acceptance of their parents. I’ve always thought that movie says something about a person. What was your movie?
Hocus Pocus!

Beautiful!
I, foolishly, strayed into the BJD portion of YouTube. That was a mistake. So much recast chatter. It was everywhere. As such, I really need to vent a little bit.
I am pro-artist.
I will happily welcome back people who were pro-recast then become pro-artist.
I will never bully, but I won’t stay silent.
I don’t care if pro-recast people would say my original doll is ugly and no one would want to recast her, so I am “safe” from recasters. This isn’t about me.
I celebrate art. I do not celebrate theft.
No one can put a price tag on ethics.
The full moon rises behind the columns of the ancient marble Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, southeast of Athens, on the eve of the summer solstice on June 20, 2016. The temple located on a promontory at Cape Sounion, about 70km (45 miles) south-southeast of Athens, built 444 BC, and dedicated to Poseidon, god of the sea. (AP Photo/Petros Giannakouris).
This piece is one of my favorites in the entire museum; ‘Dream Cloud’ is carved from one piece of boulder opal mined in Australia. It’s an impressive piece, large enough to fill the palm of your hand.
It’s beautiful
