@vvinghero liked for a starter
To wake up in a completely different world to a welcome package that suspiciously fits his interests and a small, oddly-shaped man who is apparently his roommate starting today isn’t exactly the morning Dabi had expected to wake up to. He initially thought that he must have been hit by someone with an illusion quirk but hurting himself, unfortunately, still doesn’t send him back to where he’s supposed to be. This entire situation rings even fishier when he comes to realize that he had arrived here on his birthday. What could possibly be the connection there?
His aimless wandering down the dark street comes to a halt when just up ahead of him, he sees the familiar pair of large feathered wings waving upward then diving back down in a flash of scorching hot crimson against the night sky. Seeing those wings sway like flames being roused by the breeze is almost enchanting if not for the fact that he remembers who they are attached to.
What the hell is No. 2 doing here?
Dabi’s instinct to go after the guy and intimidate some answers out of him runs through his nerves but he collects himself because 1) he somehow couldn’t intimidate Hawks no matter how much he tried and 2) he couldn’t afford to lose the fabricated bond he has built with him just yet. A disposable hero can only be disposed of when the time is right. So with that in mind, Dabi stays still on his spot as he waits for the No. 2 Pro Hero to fly close by.
Just as Hawks is about to swoop past him, the young villain brings his palm out and releases a burst of blue flames just right in front of him— close enough to alert (and hopefully annoy) the blond but not too close that it could have almost torched his face off. The flames dissipate just as fast as they ignited and Dabi looks up at his newfound companion with a feigned smile.
❝Hey birdie, you fly here often?❞
flash of searing blue catching his peripherals, wings sharply drew back and beat to avoid flying face first into flames—— a cautious overreaction, because whoever did it knew what they were doing to keep him from doing just that. before his gaze even fell to look at who was responsible, his stomach had dropped in realization at the familiarly ( in both distinct quirk and exasperating audacity ) and it felt as if his heart had bounded into his throat; though it was fleeting, the startled expression that flitted across his visage disappeared just as quickly as the heat from the flames sent his way and was quickly replaced by his own faux smile.
ah, fuck. it was never supposed to stay easy, was it?
dabi was a job and dangerous one, at that. hawks was well aware, that even without the hero commission up his ass, he would have no choice but to keep their facade running. while he enjoys the freedom that comes with this place, it was impermanent and he would not allow himself the comfort of growing soft or complacent.
“ can’t say that i do, but i think i’ve found a reason to ! ”
booted feet landing gently on the pavement, wings folded back and he fell into a relaxed posture—— it was as if he were greeting a friend and not a villain. there weren’t many redeeming qualities about the man before him, but if there’s anything hawks appreciates, it’s that he’s easy to talk to. never mincing words and falling into superfluous banter, it was a dangerous line to toe, but it seemed to be working in his favor. cocking his head to the side, he opts on being insufferable, to pay him back for the earlier fire thrown at him. “ hope you didn’t miss me too much. i’m a little surprised, though. ”
“ ——you’re the last guy i would’ve thought they’d bring here. ”
