Ever the fan of archives of books ( especially the old ones, she was quite fond of the way they smelled and the archaic words they chose ), the young girl couldn’t help but stare at the prized first-edition tomes. Dawn reached out to their spines along the shelf, nearly touching them just before he spoke and stopped her.

“ Can’t I… Can I please just check the publishing page? I wanna know which ones are the oldest. Just how old is the oldest book you have, do you know?? And what’s it about!? “

♞▐⋮ As if it had required a well thought answer, quietly he stood there, carefully mulling over the question. Could she be trusted not to ruin the books, but also more importantly - what was the oldest book he possessed?

Almost mindlessly he reach up on one of the taller shelves to pull down a thin book, considering it before he held it out to her.

In the “social norms” headcanon, it is hinted about how much Lucian dislikes reminders of his past, and dislike can be an understatement. He worked very hard to relearn literally everything he had been taught in order to reinvent himself, however some small talents and habits stuck with him even after all of these years. When he was included in acts, they were usually filler dance roles, and since Lucian was a quick learner, he learned the moves with ease. After years of doing this and being taught how to dance at a young age, he still has a knack for dancing, however it’s not something anyone in the Elite 4 is going to witness him doing.

Finding the balance point on various objects is another tick he picked up back when he lived with the traveling group. When in moments of extreme boredom, Lucian will out of curiosity begin to start trying to find the center of balance on small objects. His little towers of object are never really noticeable, he destroying them with a quick swipe of his hand before meetings are over, but occasionally, he will leave a small tower of tiny balanced objects. If anyone brings this up, he simply will deny knowing anything about the habit.

The other and extremely lesser known habit that he has kept, is more subconscious and something he does while he is thinking. Lucian is exceptionally good at juggling. He can take many different objects and when he is trying to solve a problem in his mind or is deep in thought, he will start doing this activity. He maintains a very strict ‘knocking’ policy partially because of this habit, knowing he’d only be made the point of a joke due to his personality, and then he would need to explain why he could juggle.

Well not necessarily the definition, but Lucian didn’t know the difference. Adjusting his glasses and without skipping a beat, Lucian answered:

❝ Prattle: to talk in a foolish or simple minded way; chatter, babble. Synonyms for this word include, but are not limited to gab, blab, or jabber...❞ he stopped himself to see if the other got what he was saying, and once determining that he had not done so, ❝ It means talking when you don’t need to and often. ❞

Will lets the spheres float to him, mimicking the position Lucian had them in perfectly, before letting them take their previous course of motion. It takes no effort for the magician to juggle them, flinging them to and fro, up and down without even bothering to pay attention.

“Oh, yes, great examples,” he concurred, plucking a ball out of it’s path with his psychic abilities to levitate in the center of the juggling arc, “without us, the entire region would fall out of place, wouldn’t it?” He moved his hands to his sides, letting the balls drop to the floor to roll off in any witch way, taking the levitating ball in his fingers, “But people are smart. They’d find a way to-”

He drops the ball, and as it springs back up, he catches it, “bounce back.”

♞▐⋮ Looking away for a moment as the psychic juggled the balls with his mind, Lucian didn’t even stop to catch the pun. Did he have to do that in front of him? Did he have to show off his powers, just like that? And with such a trivial task. It was too late for him to realize that a loud click of his tongue sounded once dark eyes returned to the juggling individual.

❝ Can you stop that, you’re going to knock it into something and cause a mess. I’d rather not have to clean up after you.❞ Unable to not focus on how Will so easily could move things with his mind, Lucian quickly changed the subject.

❝ What brings you here anyway?❞

♞▐⋮ For appearances more than anything, the elite promptly pulled out a book and began to flip through the pages. When would he be free enough for a battle? He needed to fill the minimum quota that the champion told him he needed to fulfill, but this stranger didn’t seem worth the time. Placing his index finger on the page, he traced along different lines to go through the motions of checking the schedule.

❝ Six months from now. ❞ He said flatly while shutting the book rather loudly.

♞▐⋮ 「headcanon 01:」 following the social norms

Lucian is an incredibly proper individual, having gone through many pains to become, for the most part, a well mannered citizen. While his demeanor is can be considered rude, when it comes to proper etiquette such as eating (e.g. chewing with one’s mouth closed, not talking with food in one’s mouth, or always placing one’s napkin in one’s lap) he’s very particular about following these rules.

His normal demeanor helps with how he acts in public, but if he sees others acting foolish, or not necessarily according to the norm, then he immediately becomes irked. If it’s someone he doesn’t know, he’ll ignore the situation, writing the individual in question off as a fool, or he’ll dismiss himself from the area if he can, not wanting his own reputation to be sullied due to such folly.

He is incredibly particular about following particular social normalities as to not draw attention to himself, mostly because growing up in the circus was all about getting as far away from social norms as possible. Wanting to go the opposite direction led him to doing literally anything other than how anyone would have interacted back in his initial home. Eventually he found his identity and his place as a person.

He does not consider being a part of the Elite 4 in the same categories as his conformity, because he sees this as a career advancement more than anything else. Lucian also does not see anything wrong with his personality or snobbish demeanor and does not consider it abnormal.

“Yes, I can see. Very, very important! I would even call it a matter of national security!” God, it took everything in him not to fall to the floor laughing.

With a quick flick of his wrists, the balls stopped within the air, making their way towards Will. “When they say you have to juggle at lot of responsibilities as an elite, this isn’t exactly what I had in mind. I can’t believe I’ve been doing it wrong this whole time!”

♞▐⋮ A scowl immediately made its way onto Lucian’s face, eyes rolling back after the pun. He inhaled for a second before exhaling a very long breath in order to keep himself composed. He did not let any of the elites know about the very small habits he picked up at the circus, and did his best to hide that particular side of him. When times like this ever came up, he became especially cranky and expressing why it made him upset might not have been the most productive with Will. His only alternative? Turn the joke around.

❝ Yes, I know I make it easier than it looks, don’t I ? You see Will, being an Elite is a gigantic responsibility, and in a way to our regions we are both examples and guardians. ❞ He spoke with a smirk, flipping one of his locks of hair back.
