Lips tug into a gentle smile, watches as his hands fall into his lap. Sunmi liked a lot of things about Minki, like the fact that he was so sweet and gentle, how smart he was. She didn’t spend a lot of time with him, but whenever she did, it reminded herself to be humble, in a way. Yes, Sunmi had a genetic advantage in comparison to others because of her brain, but she wouldn’t be the genius she is today had she not been spoon fed information since she was pushed out of the womb. While general people had always argued about Nature versus Nurture as if it was one or the other, it was clear to Sunmi that it had to be a combination of both. She was no would be no where near as smart as she was today, had she grown up in a place where she wasn’t exposed to so much so young. It had fascinated her then, when Hansol and Minho mentioned that he had taught himself everything he knew. She didn’t know about the situation the elder had grown up in, but just the sheer fact that he taught himself the language, the coding– everything he knows. It made her feel humble, pride and a strong sense of admiration. Her right hand tucks a strand of hair behind her ear then, clearing her throat before she’s giggling at his words, hand pushing him gently as she laughs again. “Yeah totally, an old man. But Minho is ancient, like– crusty and dusty. You? You’re actually cute. You can get the ladies still.” His head tilt only seems to amplify her laughter as another joke creeps into her head, one that would mostly likely fly over his head, “Is everything about you small Minki or are you hiding something from me?”
Sunmi notes that she should hang out with the elder more often. She couldn’t feel sad in his presence. She didn’t know if it was the way he would tilt his head in confusion, and she’d half to slow herself down, or the way that he seemed to make her laugh and smile without trying, or just his gentleness, but she liked hanging out with him a lot. And hearing that he still would’ve came to see her, no matter how true that statement was or not, makes her feel.. warm? inside, she supposed. “It’s just… I don’t want to talk and then you walk away and be like, ’ This bitch was breathing her stinky breath on me.’ you know? I don’t have a tooth brush on me right now, but… Bae is supposed to bring me one later… ” She tries, shying away slightly.
minki didn’t really understand being seen as ‘smart’. he was seen as that after all, sunmi too, but he didn’t understand why. sure, he understood the word and the origin, what it meant and how it was used, but he couldn’t tell if he was smart naturally, or that fact he’d grown up in the way he had, taught himself the things that he had-- is that what made him smart? it was a curious thing, but if he were to say who was smart, he’d probably thought sunmi and anyone else really. he knew he was intelliegent after all, but he didn’t have the skills needed for the real world that everyone else held, and that put him at a disadvantage. he didn’t understand teh world like everyone else, and he saw it different-- and hell, interacting with people in general was sometimes enough to make him want to sink back ino his mind instead because he still couldn’t get used to actually being around people like this. “s’only a lil’ bit older than me though.. both twenty four.” his head tilted once more, like a curious puppy he supposed hearing something he didn’t understand. but it was things like this that went over his head. “get the ladies?” he repeated her words then, face scrunching up in confusion because he didn’t understand that really, or why she was laughing now with her next words. “huh? hidin’ what? i’m missin’ a joke.. right?”
it was probably odd in the fact that they were both intelligent people, but even then, the seemingly simplest things were what went over his head and left him more confused than understanding. like when people were joking, or their change in voice and expression. he didn’t get that, didn’t catch on-- the only thing he caught on to was if he was being shouted at, something that made him.. panic? more than anything. “wouldn’t be like that.. though. breath doesn’t smell.” he shook his head. at least to him it didn’t anyway. “promise-- m’not lyin’.”
