Here's a sneak peak of my piece for @novaandmali and @dames-zine's My Liege: queer knights in love art book. Here is the link to the kickstarter
An art book about queer knights - celebrating all knights and their love.
you have a TUMBLR?? your art is so good how do you stay sane as an artist these days. seriously i love your work
Aww glad you like my work:)
I do have a tumblr. I'm old and chronically online T_T
Also I'm not all that sane these days personal art barely keeps me functioning like a normal human being lol.
Omg!!! There's fanfic???!!!!!
I just realized I never actually posted this here for some reason. It's been a couple of years but there are some things about this that I still like.
Things got a little busy and I've only just managed to find time to do personal work again.
Here is the cover illustration I did for MCDM's Beastheart class a while back.
I deal with art burn out. How do you handle projects you know will take you multiple days of commitment?
Idk if anything I recommend will be particularly helpful since I've always had a high tolerance for long and tedious projects.
Usually when I'm working I like to have an audio book, music or a podcast on which helps me stay focused. I also stop working on things if it gets too late at nigh and i start to get tired since there's diminishing returns if you really don't have the energy. If I'm feeling uninspired I will also take a break to go look at art by other people I follow on social media and usually I'll run into something that inspires me to get back to arting.
If you are someone who likes to keep a strict schedule maybe setting aside a block of time to draw every day and forming a habit could help. I also know a lot of people with art friends have discord groups where they regularly post what they are working on to help keep each other accountable via peer pressure.
Spring is the season of love.
I feel like my train of thought for a lot of my art is "but what if it was evil" idk what this says about me lol.
i work at a TTRPG convention and we gave away a bunch of draw steel/mcdm books, and i kept peekin thru to see where your art was, some of these snapshots are guesses based on the way your armor and clothes are so solid yet gentle. AAAits SO cool to see your work in person ! the books are so beautiful, i tell everyone, 'one of my favorite artists did a lot of work for that game! she also does the best curse of strahd fanart ever' i love love love love love your art ♡♡♡
Omg I'm very excited to see that draw steel books are out in the wild! Thanks so much for the kind words and support! Sometimes I can be a bit hard on myself when it comes to my own work so you have no idea how motivational it is for me to see comments like yours :)
Do you have a write-up anywhere talking about your Order of the Black Flame? It obviously seems like a cell of the Order of the Silver Dragon, but I'm curious as to what you've written and its inspirations!
The order of the black flame is a sort of twisted and expanded version of the order of the silver dragon that is lead by Osric the character I played in an old curse of strahd game. My pc's goals were vengeance for his murdered family and to punish himself for the perceived sin of being unable to save his family.
Naturally when he got to the amber temple he got everything he wanted but nothing he needed aka he made a deal with an evil demigod of death and vengeance for ... death and vengeance lol. As part of this deal he gained control over some of the revenants from the Order of the silver dragon. He also gained the ability to create more undead and was implied to be turning into a deathknight. At the temple Osric also found and killed the person responsible for killing his family and discovered that this person had come to the amber temple to become the champion of another evil god. And around this point is where our campaign wraps up.
My post campaign head cannon is that my pc is creating cult/ knightly order called the order of the black flame dedicated to worshiping the evil god my character is the champion of and killing the evil god that killed my character's family. Aka Osric is trying to nosedive the plane as hard as possible into the ground so he takes himself, everyone he wants revenge on, and everybody else on the plane out in one big michael bay explosion. Members of the order of the black flame are all desperate for some sort of vengeance and join in exchange for power/ help to get revenge. High ranking members are almost all ritually executed and raised as powerful undead.
For the most part the order of the black flame is just a personal art project for me now. Also a lot of the art I'm doing now has very little to do with the original dnd campaign or dnd in general. It's a way for me to experiment with character designs and make a lot of weird unmarketable art that only appeals to me. Honestly a lot of it is just hot air and vibes since I'm not a writer or a world builder. I just like gothic armor, cathedrals, and dead stuff so this is one big excuse to draw that shit all the time.
Just this guy lol.
But actually romance is probably pretty rare considering how zealous and insane you have to be to join the order in the first place.
Hi! Your work is so, so beautiful. How do you do the borders on your pieces? They’re so pretty and intricate.
The borders are mostly inspired by gothic architecture in cathedrals. I also use altars and other decorative bits inside cathedrals as reference.
In addition I try to incorporate some sort of symbolic storytelling element into the borders to tie it back to whatever is being framed. For example in the piece below I decided to torture myself by adding some snakes and painting a million scales since the character has metaphorically and literally shed his skin and been reborn as an undead abomination :3
Some sketches I did of a selection of eclipse knights and other members of the order of the black flame.
Currently suffering from the double whammy of burnout and art block so here's something quick.
