Oh, imagine having a crazy stalker ex? That’d be so intense, I’d probably like.. Hit him with a spoon repeatedly, annoying him, and just I don’t even know what I’d do! Maybe give him a lock of my hair? I don’t even know but eh, I don’t consider it, I’m a daughter of someone important, so I like to think I’m important sometimes, but hey, it doesn’t matter right?
Hey, if you're the daughter of somebody who's important, might as well own it! I was just curious. I've never heard those methods of dealing with stalkers before.
Oh that’s what the kids kept yelling. Now it kinda makes sense.. Been what? Trick-or-Treating? Uhm no, at least not that I remember. What’s so fun about dressing up and asking people for candy?
Well... it's free candy. Free is good, and candy is even better. Plus, if you're a total nerd like me, dressing up in a costume and pretending to be somebody else is exciting. Like, I enjoy dressing up as my favourite characters from books and movies. Some people try to dress really scarily. Some dress up to make people laugh... I think you'd be surprised, it's really fun.
"Oh you know, same old same old. I’m doing good but the new chef is making my life hell. How about you? You look dazzling though."
"Thanks! It's surprisingly fun to get a little dolled up. You look gorgeous, yourself! Sorry to hear about the new guy. If it makes you feel any better, I don't think he'll be staying... heard he wasn't exactly treating his female colleagues with respect. The boss doesn't seem to happy about it."
—It’s nice to meet you too. What’s your name?
I -- Grace. And I'm just... really sorry. You kind've don't expect your idol to pop out of no where, y'know? Not that you're really her -- I mean -- god, shut me up. [Her face pinched up before she sighed.] Sorry about that... I'm Grace. It's just really, really nice to meet you. You played my childhood idol in that last movie you did. And you did a really, really good job, which is just another reason that I'm having a hard time making sense. I'm kind've not-so-good with words even when I'm not in shock, to be honest. [She shrugged feebly with a hint of an apologetic smile.] But seriously... thank you. You really did her justice.
Oh, trust me, babe. It isn’t eavesdropping when they’d like all the listeners they can get. It’s usually their business’s praise, or snide comments at their long-time friends, stating a vile comment about their stocks. If it was at all personal, they’d do it behind closed doors. You learn to have fun listening to the mockery and competition. Practice makes perfect, princess. You’ll get the hang of it.
[Looking around, she steps back, grabbing two glasses of champagne from a platter being catered.] There you are.
Thanks! [She took the champagne gratefully; she wasn't actually that fond of the taste, but they were nice for social occasions. ... Or, so she heard. Anyway, it wasn't like it tasted bad. Like... warm, slightly bitter ginger ale.] Gee, if I knew this many helpful people lived in New York, I may have stepped out of my house a little sooner. [She smiled.] You're sort've like a... fairy god-party-tutor. [She cringed a little at her own awkward words, glancing down at her feet.]
"Anytime, Grace." Issa said with a smile along her features. There was magic in the air. She felt light a bubbly tonight for some reason and she couldn’t stop the happiness. "I’m Issa. You’re right. I don’t believe you introduced yourself, but that’s fine by me. You don’t have to introduce yourself to every stranger you meet." She smoothed her white dress before managing to get them both to the dining area. "Here we are. You hungry, yeah?"
Grace smiled in return, more comfortable now that she was certain Issa wouldn't poke fun or tease her for their previous meeting. At the mention of hunger, she patted her stomach, nodding. "Sure am. Nothing like nerves to work up an appetite." It was a feeble joke, but she crossed her arms as she pondered the buffet before them. "Hm... what do you think?" It all looked so good -- she was kind've hoping Issa would stay and chow down on some of the yummy appetizers before they parted. It was rare for her to feel this level of comfort around near-strangers, so she was a little hopeful they might become friends. "I work in a restaurant, but I've never seen stuff this fancy before!"
