I can't sleep so I'm going to share my personal head canon for Siffrins religion found in the game in stars and time.
In the game we don't know much about siffrin's religion all we are told is a single line "the universe leads, we can only follow."
So for starters I gave the religion a name because duh all religions kinda need that so after a bit of thinking I gave them the name of the 'Celestial Order.'
The main thing though I separated from canon though is that the term 'the Universe leads we can only follow.' Is not just wrong it's misquoted
The line used in game was a shortened and butchered version of the celestial orders teachings. It is actually one of three main pillars of the celestial orders faith and it goes as such.
"The Universe leads, so that we may follow. For when we love, the universe loves in return. Because when we cry, the universe listens."
The Universe is that of a kind helpful parent they will lead where they think you should go. However it is always a persons choice to follow the path the universe has laid out before them.
However the Universe isn't a God or well it is yet it isn't, it's all gods and all people all the dirt water stars and planets that exist. It mirrors us our emotions thoughts and feelings we are the Universe but it is also far beyond just one person. It's this mirrored state that has lead to the second verse, love is by far the most important thing for the Order for to love is to influence the world around you to spread love to be love. It makes the Universe and their for reality more loving.
Which leads us to the final pillar, this is the proof of the other two. When one who worships the universe who knows and understands love cries out to the Universe desperate and pleading the Universe will always listen to its children. The Kings wish while morally abhorrent was done so not with even a drop of malice his heart was filled with love for a place that took him in. Siffrins small simple wish one filled with love and simple desire was able to bend time itself. These two children of the stars wished only with love and that love is what fueled their wish.
Wishcraft is the proof of the Universes own love, wishcraft is channeled through ritual, controlled through faith but it is powered by love.
Speaking personally for a moment the original quote always bothered me. "The universe leads, we can only follow." It brought up a number of questions involving free will and such. However beyond that what bothered me the most was that such a thing felt so...
Cold....
Crass....
Uncaring.....
To quote Siffrin "why would anyone worship something like that?"
But my version would also explain a few things about both islanders too. They're both selfless in their own right. They're both self sacrificing to a fault. And both of their driving forces is just love, love and fear. Love for a family and a nation. And a shared fear of losing them.
Love is the most important thing to the celestial order and it was clear at least in some regard that both the King and Siffrin were very religious. That sense of right and wrong the importance of love, that was something imbedded in them so deep it was the same as breathing. Is it any wonder that for such people love could almost destroy the world twice over?
