Oh, boy, does this tell a story. I cannot even tell you the number of times I have gone to Target just because I needed to get out of the house or I had to pass the time. Thankfully, I have enough self-control to not buy everything I see when I go. (Unlike the girl I met at work who told me she recently went to Target to only get tampons and spent $200. Like, wow, how I wish I could do that, but alas.)

But, I just thought it was really interesting, especially after our Walmart Book of the Dead conversations. I believe that Target is really seen as just more of a place for people to pass through than Walmart is.

I really like this because I completely understand where this is coming from. Sometimes, everyone just needs to get their own time alone. And relating to Walmart Book of the Dead, I understand what is being said. I could never see myself being the person that just walked around Walmart, but Target just seems to be very different in atmosphere, and the different goods that they offer. I feel like now a days, target is a place that anyone can go to spend over 3 hours, and it will just seem like a couple minutes. It awesome. Go target!!!

I was looking up pictures to talk about for this blog and of course I come upon a picture of the power rangers….

Sadly, I can say that I used to watch this show so much when I was a little kid and I do not know how I liked it. Just as you can see from the picture this was probably the most overly dramatic kid’s tv show ever produced. They had crazy fighting suits and weird weapons but what the picture reminds me the most about when I watch it is how they used to move. A bad guy could flick them on the head and you could swear they that they got hit with a truck

I love this. This was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. I remember waking up early in the morning just to see this show. I dressed up as them multiple times for Halloween.But with that being said, I loved this show because I could always pretend that I was in those different suites. And I always wondered what it looked like in those masks. I love this show because it made kids want to be anything they could to help people, and be the super heros that they saw in the show. I feel like this show not only gave kids a thing to watch, but it helped them try to better themselves.

Treehouse

This movie was actually a very good movie. It all beings with a man going to a vacation house that used to belong to his father. His sister meets him there, but they have not spoken to each other in almost three years. The sister leaves, and once that happens, these six girls come over. They eat the meal that the main character creates (he is a very good chef known on TV). He drinks a lot of wine, falls asleep, and when he wakes up, things begin to get absolutely insane. He hears a song coming from down stairs when he wakes up, and he goes to investigate what is going on. When he does, he walks into a room where there is a record player playing music, and there is a peacock. Of course its weird, but it is only beginning. He looks downstairs to see that there is a very weird doll, and as the story continues, it turns out that the six girls that were invited over to eat in the first place are witches. In the end, it turns out that the sister hired these girls on purpose to scare the man, but he turns out to be a very terrible person in the first place. He raped a girl as a teen, and being a successful chef, he has taken advantage over a lot of things in his career, including the girls that were a part of his big chef TV show. This is a long summary, but the story behind all of the things that were going on takes a strong turn. And honestly if I was in the situation that the main character was put in, I would be mind blown. I feel like the main reason I think this is because I do not really believe in things like witches, but neither did he and look at where he was. In the end, it turns out that everything was framed, and there were no witches from the beginning. The thing that I loved so much about this movie was what happened at the end. The girls that were basically torturing him told him that they would always be watching. And if he messed up, they would kill him. And they scared him so much at that point that he went to his daughter and told er that he was going to be a better father. Although everything that happened to him was fake, he turned into a better person. It really makes me think that it could be reasonable to “scare people straight” like that. It seems as though just one thing like that scared someone so much to change their entire way of life, than it could work for others. Although it sounds very crazy, I believe that it could be a thing maybe at some time in the future. It would not be easy, but that is the thing that I find fun about modern fiction is that you can let your brain run wild and think of things like this. Nobody knows what can happen in the future, or what will happen in the future, but i think the newer that these movies go, the more that can be related to what can happen, or atleast what can be imagined, the more realistic these movies seem.

I’m Just Messing With You

In this movie, it begins with a germaphopic man going to a very beat down motel room. When he shows up, he approaches two men who are drinking next to a bar. They are both laughing and having fun, but you can tell that the main character does not feel comfortable. After a while, he finally gets his room key, but the joking around doesn’t stop there. He is constantly harassed by the office leader, and then the main character thinks that his sister has been in an accident. He begins freaking out, and with the constant games played with him by the front office employee makes him call the police. Afterwards, he gets his sister and they all become friends. After drinking all night together, they decide to go to sleep. Both the sister and the main character Larry are awoken by screams. They walk out to see Chester (office leader) fighting with a resident man. Chester kills him, and throughout the rest of the movie, you figure out he is a serial killer and many different plot changes happen, but I do not want to ruin it. This movie really made me think about different things that I would do in the situation that they were put in. Of course it is easy to talk about it just from watching all of the things that went down, but i think that Larry took a very wrong turn trusting Chester. It was obvious from the beginning that he was not mentally stable, but he continued to befriend him. If I was put into that situation, I would have run out of that motel as soon as I met the owner, but that didn’t stop Larry. And that is what I enjoy about movies such as this one. I am able to decide my own fate, and just replace myself in the screen and think about everything that i would have done different in that situation. But once the story got too far, I realized that there is nothing I could have done. There are some things that you can change in the universe, but at the same time, there are a million different things that you can not change or fix, so at that point, you have to live with the outcomes of them. There were a million red flags from the beginning, but there comes to a point where there is nothing you can do. Once you are drugged, tied, and in complete shreds, you are basically under their words. There is nothing you can do, and it will be over. Horror movies really are fun to watch, because you can always put yourself in a different position than you are in, so you’re imagination can bring you in so many different place.

Prep

I really enjoy the book that we are reading in class right now, but at the same time I have mixed feelings about it because I enjoy feel good stories, and this further along the story goes, the less feel good it seemed to be. She went from being a country girl in an amazing rich school, who was looked over and stepped on. The reason I liked the beginning was because i was rooting for the underdog. But as the chapters go on and on, she slowly becomes one of those snobby stepping on girls. First she uses one of her best friends to get with another girl, becomes her best friend and forgets all about the first one. Then, when her country ass parents show up, I really got mad. She showed no respect for either of her parents, especially her father. She was basically embarrassed to be seen with them, and not the “omg stop you’re embarrassing me” type of embarrassing, but the “my parents are so lame I hope that nobody sees me with them because then i’ll never be popular” type of embarrassing. I used to be rooting for her, but now that shes turning into the little monster that she was afraid of in the beginning, I couldn’t care less what happens to her, and I almost hope whatever it is, it isnt good

I’ve always been interested in UFO sightings, because for most there is no proof of something happening. But there is always that thought in the back of my mind that wonders, what if this person is actually telling the truth? There is no way of knowing but i feel that just because it didnt happen to us, we cant imagine it happening to other people. Its such a common story, what if it is real?

I really enjoy this picture. This picture is of a fantasy place that nobody has seen, but what I like the most is that nobody knows if a place like this really does exist. There are thousands of planets that we know of, and thats only what we can see. There is no telling if a place like this exists anywhere in space. But the thing I love about it is when you think about the picture you think about more. Where could this be? Who could be living here? Is there gravity? There are thousands of questions that can be asked, just off of one picture

Brooklyn 99

So I think I may have actually found a show that i enjoy more than The Office. It is called Brooklyn 99 and its about Detectives from Brooklyn that find bad guys and catch them, but with a comedic twist. I think the reason I like the show so much is because the humor is a lot less dry than The Office (not throwing shots at the office) and the layout of the show is very similar to The Office in the first place. The reason I say that is because just like the office, before every episode there is a little skit that makes me laugh every time. Sometimes the skit doesn’t have anything to do with the actual episode, but it is just something that will make you laugh before the show starts. Secondly, throughout all the comedy and funny moments, there is actually a surprise relationship that pops up, and I can’t lie, its kinda cute. Two of the main characters find themselves working detective work, and pretend to be a married couple. To hide their cover at one point, the begin kissing because one of the bad guys spotted them. That is when it all started. Though im not the one for love movies or scenes, I think that for a series it is good, because it keeps the watcher intrigued to see what will happen next. The thing that I also enjoy, is one of the main characters being Terry Crews. I have always loved Terry Crews since I saw the movie White Chicks.In one of his scenes, he is racially profiled, and amist all the comedy that happens, it becomes pretty serious when the officer that did it didnt have any remorse. I feel like that was one of my favorite episodes just because it showed how real the actors could get. They werent able to only do comedy, but they were able to play in very serious scenes. Another thing that I really enjoy is the cliff hangers in the show that are at the end of every episode. There has been times where I tell myself “one more episode” and I end up staying up til three am nonstop binge watching the show! One of my all time favorite scenes is when Andy Samberg “Jake Peralta” gets locked into an interrogation room with a robber. When it first happens, he exclaims “Oh thats not good for you I can stay in here forever” and then turns around and starts asking for help. Within 5-10 minutes he is freaking out crying on the table, and then the robber confesses that he did it, just to make him stop whining “like a little bitch”. Although I have not finished the series yet, I am very excited to see all of the shenanigans that they get into. I would recommend this show to almost anyone that enjoys comedy, because this is one show that I can watch and actually laugh at myself. Which makes me sound kind of like a loner, but thats okay. hahah

#brooklyn 99

Moana

First off, I love that movie and the rock. But Moana is a movie about a girl whose island was about to be taken over by darkness because someone stole the gem from the heart of the big green island lady :D. So there is a rule in her village that you can not go in the water beyond where the waves break. When the island begins to die Moana insists to her dad (leader) to let her go beyond the waves to get fish because their traps were empty. When she tries she get absolutely destroyed by the waves and washes back on the beach. Her grandmother shows that their village used to be travellers and moana sets out. Her grandmother dies. But her spirit stays with moana, and I believe her spirit guided her through all of the treturous adventure things. The end of the story is Moana and a character named Maui who helps return the gem to the heart of the green island lady (who turned into a lava monster when the gem was stolen) being that he was the one that stole the gem in the first place. Also hes a god. But the plot of the story is really good. It shows character development and the grandmother who passed really played a big underlying role because she gave moana power to push on and motivation. When I watched this movie then first time it was hard to see how big of a role she played but after watching it a couple times you could see a lot of things you missed the first time. Overall it's an amazing movie.

Greys Anatomy

This show BLOWS MY MIND. So the story line is based in a hospital and of course there is always insane things going on. But it seems so real that if you weren't told it was fiction, I'm sure a bunch of people would believe it's real. But the thing I enjoy about this show is the interactions between the different nurses and doctors and patients. Being a nursing major, it is pretty easy to see all the malpractice that goes on. From how they meet patients, to the things they do in surgery etc. Looking at the show really close shows that the story line develops between the different doctors almost more than the patients that go around. The doctors are all friends and this really changes the way the story goes. I think that the doctors being such good friends really hurt them in the long run because that seems like where a lot of the malpractice comes from. For example, in one part of the show, a former doctor comes in very disfigured to the point that the doctors couldn't tell who he was. When he is rushed into surgery, he does not make it out. He dies and after the doctors realize it was him, they say maybe if we knew it was him we coulda saved him! WHAT THE HELL. How's that fair for anyone else who wasn't a doctor hahaha

The Office as a Satire

When I first saw on the paper handed in class that the Office was a satire, it caught me by surprise. To me it just seemed like a regular comedy TV show. But when I tried to see it as a satire, it kind of made sense to me. Michael Scott being the boss who tries too hard, Dwight being the kiss ass who is under the bosses skin the whole time. Angela is the office jerk. Kelly is the annoying fan girl over everything. Creed is the old man who doesn't really know what to do ever. And some of the episodes bring out things like suicide, break ups, concussions, and depression, which seem to all be made funny by the show but that is what makes is satirical. Now every time I watch the show I try to find the underlying theme of each episode. Although not every single episode has something to do with a major crisis in the world, every episode will have the same characters playing their stereotypical office roll. To me, the office producers have found the perfect was to keep the episodes funny, while staying serious at the same time. I think that is what makes it as funny as family guy and other shows of that caliber

The Sky Is Gray

This story truly allowed me to analyze a reading to a different perspective. Throughout the story “The Sky is Gray”, there were a lot of moments that really caught my eye. The biggest one being the dentist office. When they arrive at the dentist office they sit quietly, as a boy (student with a book) and a pastor seem to get in an argument. Their argument is very compelling. The boy states how he does not believe in god, and how everything in the world should be questioned. When he said this, it really caught my attention. I thought about why he would say this, and then i realized that if nothing would have been questioned in the past, then there’s no way that we could know if anything would have changed since segregation. The reason I say this is because the whole civil rights movement were people questioning why they deserved to be treated different. Wondering why white people got so many better accommodations, or accommodations at all. What was so wrong with being a black human being that they could be treated like the scum of the earth. And it is mind blowing to think that back in the day, these things actually happened. I think that a main reason for him writing the stories of the people that he lived with and the stories of all the people that suffered, is to make sure that nothing like this could ever happen again, and so people can see how awful these days of segregation really were. After the argument between the pastor and student subsided, and after the pastor beat on the student (what a pastor move), another lady begins to question the student. The student then begins say things like “the wind is pink and the grass is black”, and at this time, the other lady is calling him crazy, saying she was on his side but anyone who would say things like,”the grass is black” is a lunatic. But when I truly thought about what he was saying, it made 100% sense to me. The only reason that we collectively agree that the grass is green, is because that is what we are told. The only reason people believe in religion, or the idea of it is because of stories that they read or the things that they hear other people say. For me, it is cool to think about because i am colorblind, so when people tell me that things are a certain color, i surely believe it, and don’t question it, which is the same thing that the other people in this story do. Putting myself in the position of being in that dentist office, and trying to understand him in that setting, i could see myself being naive and not understanding, but reading it and critically analyzing the things that he is saying truly brings a different aspect of the way that the story is being perceived. I really enjoyed this reading, and hope that we do more readings by Dr. Gaines.

I Am Number Four was one of my favorite books that I read whenever i was younger. It was so fun to read, because as a kid your imagination just roams free, and its like theres no end to the images that you see in your mind. My favorite thing about the book was that i could picture myself being in “Number Four’s” place. Throughout the book, he goes through multiple tasks that bring him down but in the end, like most hero stories, he perseveres and stays the hero in the end. This was the first thick book that i ever considered reading without being instructed by a teacher. While being that young, I never really considered that super heros weren’t real, so when I was reading it, it almost seemed like i was reading of a story from a different time. Sometimes i wish that i could go back in time just so that i could reread the book from scratch. There is also a movie based on the book. I usually always prefer movies over books, but in this situation I actually enjoyed the book more than i enjoyed the movie. The book continues into a series also, so maybe I will talk about them later on in this blog.

Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto is a video game that is free-roam, and allows you to do almost anything that you want to do. It kind of lets you be in the position to do whatever you want in someone else’s body with no consequences. You can steal cars, planes, shoot people (lol) and it is all just in the game. It can get pretty crazy, which is funny because it is only a video game. If you play the game, you could find yourself losing yourself in it, and just get stuck playing the game for a long time. It allows you to buy different sports cars, buy houses or condos, and the missions consist of drug trafficking, racing, and protecting yourself from other “thugs”. It is wild. The possibilities of the things in the game are never ending. One mission in the game, you fly into an army base, steal a cargo plane, return to your house, and put a sports car in the plane. You then return the plane to a redneck landing strip. Afterwards, you get paid, and the missions just continue coming. At the very end of the game, there is a mission where you rob a bank, and you and your partners all become millionaires. Happy ending. Boom. MODERN FICTION GAME

The Hunger Games is an amazing fiction story, that talks about 12 different districts that have to each put up a girl and a boy, to fight to the death in an arena for the rest of the districts to watch. (Pretty messed up) They books and movies keep you on your toes the whole movie. While reading the books, I would often find myself thinking about what i would do if i was in the position that Katniss (main character) was in. It is crazy how real it seems when you imagine being in the situation. When i thought about it, I could really imagine myself being picked and the exact reaction that I would have. I think that i would try to fight the system, but at the same time, you wont now what it is like until you are actually in the position that the kids are in. I won’t lie, I do not think that I would have a chance to win unless i found out that i was really good at something in the training before the battle started. Its kinda funny to think about. The imagination can play some crazy things through your head. Hopefully the world never comes down to making kids fight to death in an arena.

The Office

The office is a documentary talking about the “regular” life of a paper company. It is very fun to watch, and goes through the many different phases of what happens in many of the workers life. Sometimes I get sad because the office is not a real thing, and also because the series is over. Anytime I am bored, I can just turn on the office and it puts me in a calm and cheerful mood. The producers really did an amazing job to keep things changing and keep the jokes pretty sophisticated. Michael Scott is a great example of a crowd-pleaser, always trying to impress his coworkers with a funny joke or a talent. Jim and Pam are the dream couple in the show, Dwight is the strict assistant to the regional manager (Michael Scott). Ive watched the whole series of the office six times now, and I know a lot of what the people are going to say. If The Office was a real job, i would have moved to Scranton about two years ago, and applied there until I got the job. The office is the only series that I would actually want to act in, because I have seen the bloopers and it looks like so much fun. Most of the actors have to take a scene 5 or more times, just because of how much they cant stop laughing. <3 Office
