We have had lots of challenges using Tumblr while on the seas. If you are on FB as my friend, I try to keep things updated there.
We have encountered dramatic skies in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
Small world 2 & 3 - this boat was in Pass Christian Harbor with us! The boat to the other side is a Seattle family of 4!
Small world moment 1 -- spending a few days with Jamie's childhood friend Leslie Reeves and her husband Tim!
3-21-16 Another amazing sunset near Miami. We are anchored at Dinner Key and preparing for provisioning and picking up needed gear and spares tomorrow. We are watching the weather for our window to cross to the Bahamas.
3-20-16 This is the nicest coin laundry view in my experience, here at No Name Harbor in Key Biscayne. (I am reminded wherever I look here in Florida that it is Palm Sunday.) This is the only public access landing that we have been able to find on this side of the bay. There is one washer and dryer in a picnic shelter at this Florida State Park, and it is a sight for sore eyes for liveaboard sailors like we are now!
3-17-16 Yesterday we sailed Grateful just past Vizcaya. Tonight, we look out to this view for Hernan's and Will's wedding reception. Life is amazing.
I think we are the only wedding guests who arrived by boat.
3-15-16 Jamie headed up the mast for the first time today. As we doused the main to anchor at Key Biscayne, the port Lazy Jack gave way. Thank you, Josh and Matt for hauling him up and down in the boswain's chair three times. A trip to West Marine is required tomorrow; both sides will be replaced.
3-14-16 Tonight after a lovely sail we are anchored off of Pumpkin Key, FL, near Key Largo. What are the chances that the boat next to us is another Fountaine Pajot Lavezzi?
Cap'n Crabby keeps creating marvelous fish dishes, tapas style.
Enjoying fresh poke from the tuna I landed and the mackerel Mary caught today! So glad to have friends Matt (all the way from Sydney), Mary and Josh (Chicago) with us.
Mary and Josh gave us a special monogrammed wine opener that we used for our first bottle of wine since starting this trip. What a delight to have them aboard. Today we sailed from Key West to Long Key on the way to Miami.
Dinner view from s/v Grateful. It's our first time using the new BBQ for steaks accompanied by Carry's and Nick's massaged kale avocado salad.
3-7-16 We are anchored successfully off of Key West among an assortment of boats. A dolphin is circling and surfacing to say hello. The relative quiet is a real treat. I have to say that I never expected the cacophony that comes with sailing big water.
3-7-16 Land ho! We have arrived in the Florida Keys after crossing the Gulf from Pass Christian, MS. Seeking an anchorage where Cap'n Jamie can get a good long nap.
3-3-2016 We have officially begun the full-time adventures of s/v Grateful as of 3 pm under mixed skies and 20 knot winds. Thanks so much to Bill, Andrea, Max and Betsy for a lovely bon voyage dinner last night. We fueled in Pass Harbor with the last $1.50 diesel we are likely to see for awhile. We are crossing the Gulf to Key West and won't have signal most of the way. We will post as we can.
