If he ever wakes up, Dazai thinks to himself. He'd rather not contemplate it too much. He'll just get more stressed out, being so uncertain if Sigma will even have the chance to live the life Dazai tried so hard to ensure he would get. Maybe he did fail. Maybe keeping Sigma alive was...pointless.
He tries not to disconnect, focusing on how the other two were interacting so sweetly with the things they have in common. He knew that this would be good for them both. Their situations aren't exactly the same, but they're startlingly similar. If anyone would understand them, it would be each other. Dazai is honestly a little envious. He wonders what it would be like to have someone that understood him.
"I think I'm doing a good job of increasing that number."
It's thrown in with a soft chuckle. It surprised Dazai, how easily Chuuya was purring tonight. He really must be happy, and drunk, because he's certainly never done it around him before in the years they've known each other. Which is a real shame, but he's more than happy to be blessed with it now. Hearing that whine once he stops petting the redhead though, now that was funny, and he can't help but laugh a little. Aw, poor pouty puppy.
And then he's blinking and it's his turn to pout at what Chuuya says. How dare he. But, he decides to allow it. Because that's just too cute. It's certainly not what Atsushi was expecting, and it takes just a second to realize what was happening before the weretiger is smiling and hugging Chuuya back with a gentle squeeze.
"You too! I've always got my phone on me if you ever need anything. Thanks again for dinner too!"
There was one more little purr before they parted, and he had to giggle lightly as he watched Chuuya proceed to float. He really did like this guy, more than he thought he would when he first came here. The last thing he expected was to make friends with a mafioso like him, but here they were. And he's not complaining. He looks up when Dazai comes over after getting up, and the tiger cub wasted little time in latching onto him with a hug too, making the other freeze up for a second.
"Stay safe, okay? Remember to take your medication and try to sleep tonight. And eat something in the morning this time."
It's not like he hasn't heard it before. It felt like there was always someone fussing over Dazai now. And somehow, he's still not used to it. But he just laughs quietly, giving Atsushi a little squeeze.
"Alright, alright... You got it, tiger cub."
Pulling back, Atsushi stares up at him for a good few seconds with a firm gaze, before putting on a smile. He doesn't know how much he believes it at this point, but he'll try to. He gave the two of them a wave, a cheerful goodnight and another thanks, and headed out.
Dazai waits until he hears the apartment door open and close again, and something in him suddenly wants to shut down harder than it did before as he processes everything that just happened while he stares at nothing in particular. That disconnect is coming and he doesn't really have it in him to prevent it now that Atsushi was gone. That was exhausting, to say the least. He makes an effort to not remain frozen though, even if it's only to reach over for his glass of whiskey.
And he brings it to his lips and downs the rest of it.
