Something I've been thinking about as I have continued to do work to spin off the Bandit setting ideas I have into their own world away from Humblewood or Redwall, is the idea of Bandits as a culture and a way of life; calling their whole culture Bandits is like calling all nordic people Vikings. For every Bandit with a sword there are ten Bandits who all they do is mend clothes, wash laundry, cook and clean, smith or carve, work leather and emboss, knit, or farm. There are granny Bandits who used to be warriors, Bandits who settled down to raise their families.

Bandit is a sort of exonym put on them by the cultures around them, but the idea is of a reclaimed label. "Yes, we're the Bandits, we're the boogeymen you're afraid of!" kind of thing.
